2006 impala ss 5.3 - replace engine or get rid of?
I'm told our impala has a very specific engine and either hard to find or expensive to replace? Will an 05 or 07 work in it? Any suggestions for where to look for an engine in KC or more hassle than it's worth? It looks great, WAS running great, and has 212K miles. My hubs is not a computer person so apologies for being so vague but looking for a direction to go. Or just trade it and our older chevy truck in on a new Colorado? lol

car-part.com is a search tool for junk yards. You can set the car description and zip code. And you can search for specific parts that yards are wanting to sell. And engine is one of those.
It would require having a competent and trusted person to put in the engine and make sure it's working right. You're putting in a used engine which might show problems after a short time or may run lots more miles. The transmission and other parts in the 06 Impala would still be 06.
If you are not eager to deal with the hassel of that, it may be time to trade. I certainly would not put a rebuild engine in it at a higher cost unless the rest of the car is in great shape.
As to trading, I'd suggest trying to sell the Chevy truck by advertising it or putting a sign in the window as it's driven locally. I believe you could get more for it than a dealer would give. But selling yourself means dealing with people and getting cash in advance for the full sale price before transferring title.

Add cost of mechanic to remove old and put in replacement and get it running. I'd guess about the same amount. So you're at $1500-2000 for a used engine?
