Tires from different brands

My two front tires are wearing out on the edges. I had to replace them both three years ago I went to a tire place that only does tires and they told me that they only can give me two front tires that would NOT be the same brand as the back tires .They claim the tires I have are not available anymore. Be that as it may, is it safe for the car to have unmatching front and rear tires?

While it is best to have all tires on a car that are the same make, model, and state of wear, you can get away with tires that are different IF they aren't too much different, such as being the different size, or a type, or have different specs (like the UTQG ratings) . The problem is that vehicles tend to pivot around tires that are different in emergency situations - and the more different they are, the stronger that tendency.

All things being equal, I'd rather have my new tires on the back.

Its not the deal that I am concerned with . The rear tires are fine. The two front tires abnormally wear out on the rims. when i bought them 3 years ago, they told me I needed a wheel allignment and when I went to the automotive place they would not do the allignment unless I agreed to a 3 thousand dollar front end job which my general mechanic thought was totally unnecessary. So I skipped it. The car is 21 years old and has 173,000 miles on it and is not worth 3 k.
