06 V8 SE with large Thule roof top crap carrier, 2 adults and 3 kids and way too much camping gear: Denver to Glenwood Springs to Redstone to Glenwood, 190 miles over Eisenhower Tunnel and Vail Pass, 17.2 mpg using Shell regular.
Glenwood to Redstone a couple times, then to Denver over Independence Pass, elev 12095, Fremont Pass, and return thru Eisenhower (Johnson) Tunnel, 19.0 mpg with some stop and go traffic on I-70 using Bradley Sinclair regular.
Most of the trip used air conditioning, hit 100 degrees in Glenwood Sprigs, interior was comfortably cool. Estimated cargo load was 1200 lbs. Total miles 500.
All the kids dirty scuff marks on the door panels just wiped right off.
Around Sydney, during peak hour traffic to and from work, I get around 11.5 mpg (US) which is 21 l/100km. On a recent trip into the mountains, up to 1300 metres (4200 feet) and 400 km long (250 miles), I managed 18 mpg (US) which is 13.2 l/100km. I use 98 octane fuel.
I am extremely happy with the vehicle, have had it for 3 months. Here in Sydney we pay around $1.50 AUS per litre which is $5.50 per US gallon.
Since this often comes up when discussing our heaviest in class monster, I thought I'd post some recent "real world" mileage statistics on my "broken in" LR3:
V8 LR3 HSE, >15K miles on the odometer, loaded 7-seat with rear-locker running 91 octane. All 4 stock 19" tires at factory (door sticker) PSI recommendations. No roof storage installed; cross-bars removed. City/mixed use elevation is generally between 15-100 ft. Temperature varies, but I'm in Northern California... so we barely have weather. All MPG calculated by hand. US Gallons.
Somewhat worse than my older averages... probably because I've been stuck in city traffic more, with average speeds of less than 20.
Overall, I'm close to the EPA 14/18 MPG averages. "Your mileage may vary." The "computer" MPG is often close, but you should compute manually for accuracy... it can be fooled.
I currently have 5,800 miles and have owned my LR3 for 8 months.
I'm getting around 11.6 with city driving. I have gotten as much as 19.0 on all highway driving.
I'm trying my best to increase my city mileage. I'm gradually bringing the vehicle up to speed and anticipate braking way in advance. It hasn't changed my city mileage one iota! :mad:
I'll post again with any changes.

Steamboat to Denver, and around Denver, 277 miles, 14.0 gal. = 19.8 mpg
Denver to Montrose CO, plus a little more, 287 miles, 15.1 gal. = 19.0 mpg
Montrose to Ouray, then over Imogene Pass to Telluride on offroad trails for about 7 miles plus low range for about 13 miles, return to Ouray by paved road, 96 miles, 7.5 gal. = 12.8 mpg
Ouray to Silverton via Corkscrew Gulch using low range for about 7 or 8 miles, then to Durango on paved roads, 89 miles, 5.6 gal. = 15.9 mpg
Durango to Ridgway to Denver with side trip to Silver Jack Reservoir (41 miles on dirt roads) and a Labor Day crawl in heavy traffic back to Denver 367 miles, 18.8 gal. = 19.5 mpg
I recently traveled from California to Tennessee driving 1998.8 miles using 114.05 gallons of prem. ($319.66) and averaging 17.53 mpg. I stayed within the speed limit the whole time (just normal hwy driving).
I filled up six times and depending on the terrain of driving on that particular gas tank, the numbers were as follows (17.5, 19.5, 17.1, 18.3, 16.5, 15.6).
I was loaded up with cargo, aprox. (400 lbs) and two people, aprox. (355 lbs)
The 17.53 is the actual pen to paper avg... the LR computer said 17.88.
Part of the trip included using the AC (maybe about 800 miles). I now have 10,920 miles and the vehicle performed perfectly the whole way as it has since ownership. There are no vibrations or anything weird driving on the hwy at 75, travels straight down the road.
