I live in Hawaii and am buying a car from California. The dealer says it needs to put the shipping cost and driver harbor drop off fee added to the cost of the car. From doing a leasehacker calculator it looks like if I add the added-on fees to the dealer fees instead of the price of the car it doesn't change my monthly payments.
My question is, can the dealer added to my dealer fees and is it right that it will not affect my monthly payment?

Do you expect the dealer to cover the shipping costs? Remember, this is the car you picked out, as opposed to one on the dealer lot.

I have a friend here in Colorado who bought a car from Kentucky, and he paid to have it shipped to him. No difference, except it's over an ocean rather than half a continent.

A more important questions - how does HI apply taxes to a lease? The numbers on that worksheet look to be for a purchase, as I don't see reference to the acquisition fee.

I keep asking for numbers and this is all got. I asked for MF and he said the "The system just uses the standard money factor".
My question was not that I want free shipping its I don't want it included in the lease, I wanted to pay shipping and driver fee separate so that I wouldn't pay tax or entrust but I was told that Cali law says it all needs to be included in the deal. The dealer said, "If you just put down the money to cover them it will negate that amount" (shipping and driver fee). I wanted as a fee not in the deal as a downpayment.
The tax he called DMV here and got all the tax papers and forwarded to finance.

Other than possibly having to pay sales tax on the shipping fee, it doesn't matter either way. I realize that is what you are concerned about, but if they didn't have that rule, shipping would be $30,000 and the car would be $20,000, depriving the state of their tax money.

If the dealer won't be forthcoming with the numbers, that is just something you have to insist on.
I would wonder about the tax number being added in, as I thought HI taxed the monthly payment.
You really need to see the deal on the actual lease worksheet, not some made up document from the dealer.
Insist on a screenshot of the computer, or a printout.
