Subaru Crosstrek or Toyota RAV4?

I want to get a used AWD with a budget of $18k and under 40,000 miles. I want the Crosstrek because it’s rugged, sporty, and has the highest ground clearance than vehicles of other makes. However I feel ( my gut is telling me) that I should really get a Rav4 because of top rated reliability and I personally know the pre owned manager who works at a Toyota dealer so he will give me a much better deal on a Rav4. he also has a 2014 Subaru Outback 2.5 limited with 41,000 miles under $19k but he can give me a better deal if that’s something anyone thinks I should also consider or any other suggestions? I keep my vehicles 10-15 years sometimes longer.

"rugged, sporty" are pretty subjective. The Crosstrek does have superior ground clearance, but it is an Impreza, and I'm not sure I'd put it in the rugged category. Of course, the RAV4 isn't rugged, either.

Reliability reports are more objective. But, if you keep a car 10-15 years, you should get what you really want to drive. Seems like you are leaning towards the Crosstrek?

Yes I’m definitely leaning to the Crosstrek. I don’t like the RAV4 or a Toyota. Like I said the reliability may be bulletproof, and I know a guy there, but to me there’s nothing else to like. I have looked around, and at this time there is not many Crosstrek’s to choose from in my area within what I want put in for price. the older XV ones I heard burn oil and the 2015 newer regular Crosstrek ones may have a different block in the motor if I’m not mistaken these do not burn oil. I do not want the Impreza because it’s too low, I like the Crosstrek because it’s more high up. i can’t afford a brand new one, but I don’t want to lease either. I’ll just keep looking.

Crosstrek is much smaller, if you are traveling 3 or 4 people often the Rav4 is probably the smarter choice
