Dashboard Lights not working | no crank | Other Lights come up

Hi,

I had a low battery in my car, so I got an amateur mechanic to come to jump start. He tried doing it from the Fuse box(the one under the hood) terminals as he was not able to locate the battery, which was in the rear. Now, when I insert the key, the dashboard lights don't come up and on pressing the start button/deep pressing the key, there is no crank. The other lights come up, like the headlight LEDs, the indicators, the key lock unlock works.

What are my options here? Is it possible that he changed the connections in the fuse box(the one under the hood)? How can I get the dashboard to work?

You can start by checking for power to and through every fuse. Since you cannot power up, specific switched fuses will probably not be getting power. The list of switched fuses failing to power up would allow me to see what feed circuit needs to be investigated and from there work back to the failure. It's unlikely (but not impossible) that he actually changed anything. When testing, that information would be pushed to the side and all of the concentration would be on proving what is wrong right now.
