Snap, Crackle, Popping Noise from Struts. The noise is annoying but steers fine. Hate struts, because they are Way too expensive for shock absorbers. Can I replace the struts with old-time shocks?

Are you sure the noise is coming from the struts? If so, how did you confirm that?

No, you cannot replace struts with shocks, a strut is way more than "just a shock absorber". The strut carries the vehicle weight and controls suspension movement at the same time, a shock only tries to control suspension movement. With the McPherson Strut suspension you don't need an upper control arm and ball joint, and you dont need a way to mount the springs in the frame whch are both savings in manufacture and service. You also don't need to have alignment devices designed and maufacturered into the vehicle and the list of advantages doesn't stop there.
