transmision trouble

I have a 2000 Dakota. yesterday i was driving on the hwy. cruise control set at 60. when all of a sudden i lost all forward gears. i still have reverse but it does whine a little when in reverse. im left with nothing in all forward gears except a whining sound..

Just bought a 3002 Dakota with reverse out. Today, I lost 2&3 gears.stopped and turned the key off, then start the engine and I got my tranmy back working. I think it is the brain has developed loose connections from heat.
All the lights intermittently flash off for a split second and come again every time a relay comes on. Anyone know the fix.
