Hello, I am new to the forum and am not sure if there is a thread for this issue or not, so sorry ahead of time if there is. I was driving my children home a couple days ago when we started smelling a burning plastic smell. At first i thought it was just someone burning trash outside, but when smoke started rolling through the holes that the seat belt comes through it was obvious that wasn't the case. I pulled over and turned off the car and waited for a while and eventually after about 5 minutes the smoke stopped. I started it back up and drove it home with no issue. When i got home i started investigating and behind the driver seat on the floor underneath the carpet there is a group of wires running into the pillar in between the front and rear doors on the drivers side. The wires were melted and burnt. Before all this, the service airbag light came on the dash and when i had the code read I was told the left rear side impact sensor needed service. After doing a little more research I found that that particular sensor is located in the same door the burnt wires lead into. So that leads me to believe that the sensor itself isn't bad but it must be a loose connection or a bad ground or something to that effect. So all that being said, where do i go from here? I am pretty handy and could probably repair the wires but it seems to me that this should be something the dealer i bought it from should take care of being that I havent owned it for a year yet. Or the manufacturer should handle the repairs being that this isnt a problem caused by normal wear and tear or anything any owner could have done. Thoughts?
