2005 GMC Yukon: Can't shift into park, loud grinding noise in reverse and loss of reverse.
My 2005 GMC Yukon 4wd was driveable about a week ago. Went to grocery, parked in a space, and noticed that I was too close to the vehicle next to me. When I attempted to reposition Yukon, that is when things went bad. Turned truck on shifted into reverse, heard it go into gear when I gave it gas to reverse instead of a smooth follow-through, I heard loud grinding whirling noises and was unable to reverse. Took me about 25 mins to get out of parking spot, had to go into neutral, and get assistance from passer-Byers to push Yukon. I was able to shift into drive and began to head home. A few minutes into my drive I started to notice the grinding and whirling noises slightly. I live about 7 mins from the store. SO continued my drive, every time the whirling noise was present was when I accelerated, at which time I would switch into neutral and let the Yukon glide. I did that for about 1-2 mins, then decided to try 1st, 2nd and 3rd to get home, and was able to drive through without hearing any noises. When I got home and parked in the driveway, which sits on a small incline, I shifted the truck into the park and turned off the truck. As I started to get out of Yukon, I noticed that the truck was rolling back. I immediately had to push down on the brake and leave the truck in drive against my storage door to get help to park it.
have tried a few things already, but any help would be appreciated and needed.
