My break system failed and the mechanic said the hoses rusted out

What would a repair job like that cost and does it pay? My avalon is a 98

There would be no set price for work like this, it's a time and materials operation. The biggest problem is there is no way to know what components aren't going to survive being disturbed when corrosion is in play. Even things like fuel lines can be in such poor condition that just moving the brake lines beside them causes them to fail.
