I am considering purchasing a pre-order CRV, other than placing a refundable deposit upon delivery and test drive of vehicle, agreeing to a sale price. Is there anything I should secure in the contract?
Should I ask for VIN or expiry of contract if not delivered by expected date?

You can ask for, and negotiate, whatever you feel is appropriate.

However, whatever you and the dealer agree to - get it in writing

Make sure you understand the fees and taxes in your state.
