Searching for my mother's 81 Camaro

My mother had acquired my grandfather's old police Camaro in 1997. It was a blue Camaro, with a white hood scoop. Unfortunately, my grandfather felt the engine in the car was too much for my mother, and he changed it out. I recently begin cleaning his place, and located the original motor. I know she sold it in Arkansas, but I believe it was still registered in Alabama. I'm interested to know how to locate it, if it would be able to be sold back to our family, etc. I have the VIN from an AL registration paper I found in my mother's belongings. I have the last tag number she had on it. I just can't seem to locate any info other than it's not been salvaged or stolen using the information I have. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know where I might begin! Thanks greatly in advance!

can try a general google search. Or sign up for vinwiki. I think they can track most anything.

My guess is it went to the crusher a long time ago.

possible but being deep south may have avoided the rust devil. I assume that when they scrap a car the VIN gets captured in some repository.

If you have a VIN, just bite the bullet and pay for a Carfax. That will probably give you the state where it was last registered. From there, you can contact the appropriate state and try to figure out whether they can provide you with additional information on the owner or whether the car was scrapped, etc.

Not only rust but wrecks could do a car like that in. Interesting about the VIN as I’ve read that VIN plates taken from junkyards are sometimes used to register stolen cars. You could track the original VIN only to find it’s on a different car.
