1999 Subaru Forester Purchase and oil issue Recommendation

Thinking about buying a 128k miles 1999 Subaru Forester, it seems like the exterior and interior are in fair condition, current owner told me that it currently leaks oil (not from the valve cover gasket), owner says he has kept w/ regular maintenance, would like to know if someone can offer information; based on prior experience, what major issues I should expect to experience w/ this yr/model? and if the dealer is the recommended place for service or if an experienced mechanic will do. Can someone help me determine the fair market value including the cost of repairing the oil leak? Thank you.
