Control arms on 4th Gen

Howdy folks. Proud owner of a SR5 2005 4runner here, on the cusp of 300k miles. I love my vehicle, my family bought it new and now it’s mine.
One thing, the control arms have never ever been replaced. It’s become quite noticeable. I had no clue until my car friend took one look and laughed at how deteriorated they were.
Could someone PLEASE point me in the right direction as to what I need to replace the parts? My car friend has all the tools but he doesn’t know what I need. I can’t find a straight answer online that doesn’t contain high levels of mechanic jargon.
what does upper and lower mean?
Do the back wheels have control arms?
Am I insane for continuing to drive this car with control arms with 300k miles on them?
Thanks guys and gals
