I’m in the process of negotiating a lease for a ‘24 Legacy Limited 36/10K. Thank you for already providing me w/ the MF & RV above, but I now have a couple questions about the validity of a couple of charges coming from the dealer. I live in CA (zip 93355 is the dealer location, my zip is 93933 if this matters) and they have in the Drive-offs:

1) CA tire fee of $8.75
2) electronic filing fee of $29.00

Are these legit & have to be paid? Or are they negotiable?

Rolled into the cost of the car, they have:

1) some unknown additional charge of $85 added to the Cap cost to get an “Adjusted Cap Cost”
2) an “Upfront Fee” of $117.75
3) Disposition Fee of $300

The sales guy said the finance guy would have to explain the $85 as he doesn’t actually know what they are since no one ever asks (Document processing is already in as the normal $80 in drive-offs, so it’s not that). As for the “Upfront Fee”, he said it’s a partial down payment/drive off fee added into the costs of the vehicle coming from Chase Bank who they finance through. This sounds like we pay twice. Is it better to put the Disposition fee in Drive-offs? Or maybe it doesn’t make much difference/personal preference?

When I run the numbers, I’m getting pretty much what they’re getting, so maybe it’s a matter of shifting numbers around so it’s more difficult to understand? But I’d just like to follow the logic if possible.

And if this belongs somewhere else in the forum, sorry, and please let me know where it’s best to ask these questions.

In CA, the $85 is a dealer doc fee (capped at that amount). Tire and Filing fee are legit, as the dealer deals with the DMV and you pick up the plates from them

Don't know what the $117.75 is.

The disposition fee is paid at the end of the lease, if you decide to return the car and not buy or lease another Subaru.

The only monies you should pay at signing are the first payment and any government (non taxable) fees. Anything else, like the acquisition fee, should be rolled into the cap cost and become part of the payment.
