Airbag light won’t reset
I have a 2009 Porsche Cayenne with drivers side front fender damage (airbags did not deploy). I’m trying to get the airbag light to shut off. The crash sensor is gone and I’ve replaced the sensor from a 2004 cayenne. The airbag module has been reset via mail in Airbag Module Reset service. None of this has worked so far. I’m using a Carsoft Auto Diagnostic Scanner POR V2.0 for Porsche with ABS Scan,Oil Service Reset tool to reset the airbag 1738 fault code with no luck. I last checked the drivers seat belt tensioner which has checked good. What should I check or replace?

NOTE: No vehicle manufacturers approve of having the airbag crash information reset in the airbag module. They all require it to be replaced in the event of an accident.
Trying to substitute a 2004 sensor for the 2009 is a questionable attempt at a repair. If you needed to prove out the sensor it would have been better to simply swap the left hand and right hand sensors to see if the code followed the sensor or still set on the left side.
Typical European strategy is to build most of the diagnostics into the factory scan tool. That's why there is very little published in a book (or software) format.
How did you check the seatbelt pretensioner? If the module isn't coding for a circuit issue there shouldn't be a problem with it.
I inherited this as a project car so, unfortunately, I don’t have all the specifics.
I may not have needed to have the module reset, some information I found indicated that a reset was needed if the airbag light would not reset.
When I purchased the crash sensor it was listed for a range of models but the donor vehicle was a 2004. Also, after the collision the broken and damaged parts were removed which included the crash sensor and its connector. I wired in the purchased sensor to what remained of the wiring harness. (I purchased a used harnesses to help identify all the loose wires with no connectors).
To check the seatbelt tensioner I removed it from the vehicle and checked the ohms after inserting a plastic shim between the post and contact. You’re right that the scanner did show it was functioning at 2.8 ohms.
I don’t know if the airbag module has an error or if I need to find an appropriate crash sensor from a same model year cayenne. What do you think?
Not yet. I need to figure out how to get to the passenger side sensor first.
