I think all of us know people who work with their hands, that can no longer do it.

    Barbers, dental hygienists, etc, etc..

A lot of my co-workers were virtual cripples, by the time they made it to retirement age.

Love that black GTO and the alloys fit it perfectly! I've always thought the right alloy wheels can make or break a vehicle that's why I'll only buy something with alloys that look good to me. Did give the VW store a bit of a hassle when I got the Golf as I hated the OEM alloys that the SE version came with. After a few tries and eventually getting the correct 17" wheels selected, they gave me 5 minutes to make a final decision. Talks about a tough decision. It was either the 10-spoke wheels or the 15-spoke ones both coming off a couple of Jetta's. Eventually chose the "SEL" 17" alloys but whenever I see the other choice on another VW product, I question myself about the decision I made. The thing about VW 17" alloys, they have many styles that will fit and so many look really great. Saw a nice 5-spoke set from a Passat that would've looked great also on OfferUp but the total cost of swapping wheels was just way too much to justify. For an even swap...maybe worth it but the cost of everything was just crazy. I thought I was just plum crazy for even considering such a swap but knew folks in here would get it. The correct alloy wheels really make a vehicle look that much better!

I think you can say I had the best of the both worlds. Started off as an Industrial Electrician Grade ‘B’ (glorified name for a helper) at the company i eventually retired from as an EE after graduating from night school. I really liked that first job, i learned quite a bit about hands on stuff, but even at my youngest age I knew I didn’t want to be doing that when I was 45. So, after gaining some weight sitting behind a desk for over 45 years, when my son decided to try his hand at flipping I got to use those hands on skills again. I know that saved us a lot of money. I also know flipping wouldn’t be as profitable if we had to pay for everything and just installed kitchen cabinets (done poorly) and swung a paint brush like a lot of flippers do.

FWIW, when I had my hands on job there were plumbers in our group that showed me how to do some of that trade. As a result, sweating copper tubing doesn’t scare me and I was happy to show off that skill until PEX came along and ruined that. However, doing a lot of your own plumbing saves quite a bit there too.

I’m just glad I can buy coffees cans online at a good price.

Where I come from the only training you need to get into the local union here is to have a father or an uncle in that union and it’s been that way since that union started. Years ago I heard stories about how much it would cost you to buy your way in if you didn’t meet the first requirement. You could have bought a nice used car for that amount. And the buyers were more than happy to spend it.

Years ago, I dated a single mother, and she casually mentioned that her ex paid something like $15/month for having their kid on his health insurance, which made no sense at all to me, because I've looked at benefits packages for every job I've applied to. I asked how it was so cheap, and her response was "union." :D

After 4.5 years, it retained 38% of its original cost, if we base this on the trade in value. Which is always lower. That's pretty average depreciation.

A fully depreciated Elantra is the way to go with ride share. Otherwise the value loss of the vehicle eats up all your profit. How could a G35 still be doing Uber, I thought they had a 15 year age limit? Didn’t they go to the G37 in 2009?

But the surprising one would be using a Tesla. With the steep depreciation curve I don’t know how a driver could make any money.

I ended up with a GLC 300 loaner. It's a very nice CUV, but a bit too buttoned-down and sedate for my tastes. I suspect the GLC 43 would suit me much better, although I'd still prefer a sedan. I'm still no fan of touchscreens but most functions can be accessed from the steering wheel touchpads.

Hey, I just report the news. I very much suspect that dealers will capitalize on this situation with ADMs and other price hike shennanigans.

Wife and I were just talking this morning about how lucky we are to have a car that is:

    1. Paid off
    2. Has a lot of life left in it (71K miles, at the moment)

Not sure what I'd do if we were forced back into the car market. Probably find something in the $15-25K range, used, and keep our fingers crossed.

Yes, I was about to say: "Let's all say it together... ADM!"

Wonder what creative naming and advertising dealers will use for the ADM:
    "Tariffic Pricing!"
    "It's Not a Tax Tax!"
    "Make Profits Great Again!"
"If You Loved Covid Pricing, This Should Bring You Back to the Good Old Days!"
    "Because We Can!"
    "Because...Supply and Demand"
    "It's Trumptastic!"

Wonder if balloons and inflatable stick figures will be taxed... I mean tariffed?
