Ford Escort ZX2 Starting Stalling and Idling Problems

I have a 2.0 liter engine. When I take my foot off the gas pedel the car will continue to stay at the same spped for 15 to 25 seconds. Eventurally it will throttle dowm. If I slip the car into nutural the idle will kick up to over 3000 rpm.
There was an OBC code which stated " need an idle control valve." I replaced it but it did not correct the problem. Any ideas.

I Have 1999 Ford Escort ZX2. I only had it for one week and I have had the timing belt replaced since I had it. It has 167,500 miles on it. I did not receive a maintenace manual for this car. I would like to know what I should look for and/or upgrade on this car.

I have a 98 ford escort zx2 and it wont idle. It turns on fine but wont stay running unless you give it gas. It also shutters when i try to drive it. I have replaced the spark plugs and wires, air filter, mass air flow sensor, and cleaned all the air lines and gas lines. I took it to advanced and the code read MAF so i got a new mass air flow and it didnt help. Can any one help me!?

Mine is an 02' and automatic but I had a similar problem-turned out to be the ignition coil pack (where the spark plugs connect to, $60 part easy to replace) you might have a distributer cap instead, and the throttle body needed cleaning (easy to do but a little harder to access) And replaced the fuel filter also.

My zx2 idles when stopped and now sounds like it isn't breathing right, Yes I'm a girl and that's the only way I can explain it. My engine light came on and they say it was a oxygen censor, Had that done and it came on again they said the gas cap, Did that and now it just came on again???? any help out there?

About 3 weeks the idle on my 99' ZX2 has stayed high and won't come down. It starts fast and stays there, and continues to climb when in park or neutral. There was no pre-condition that I know of and has always idled down fine. Any ideas where to start the search? It constantly feels like it needs kicked down but only increases acceleration when attempted. Thanks
