Mazda CX-9 Security System

My family recently purchased the CX9. One week later my wife cant start the car because the security system doesnt recognize the computer key. In this case she was at home and only missed an appointment - she had to wait until I got home from work before we had a key that worked.

My nightmare is if this happen some place where she was alone with my two young children (6 months and 2 years).

I called my dealer and Mazda corporate and they had no decent suggestions or useful advise; nor did they imply that something could be wrong. In both cases they admitted to knowing about at least one other instance of this happening with another CX9.

Their best suggestion is that I purchase 2 more of these expensive computer keys and carry them around with me OR leave them in the car.

My thought also.

Did you get the 'flat key'. (advanced keyless entry and start system).

If you did, there is a valet key that pulls out if the sensor goes. So you can still enter and start the vehicle manually.

If you didn't have that key...I am sorry about the ignorant service people. They should know what to do.

My model didnt come with that, just the two normal keys. If I purchase another one, hundreds of dollars, I also have to bring both sets of keys and the car, leave it for a number of hours for them to reprogram them all.

Whatever happened to simple alarm systems? Ah well.

Go to the dealer you bought it from, show then that the key does not work. Mazda will cover the key.

It only takes 45 minutes to program a key, not hours.

You do need to go back to the dealer. It is your only hope. It has been my experiance that Mazda will always give you a polite but official screw you if you call them for any problem...

Wierdest thing just happened to us. our brand new 2007 CX9 sport with the regular key just locked my wife out of the car. she parked in the driveway and left it running to go into the house for a minute, the car locked itself and she could not get back in. the spare key would not work. Had to call the mazda tow service and the guy had to pry open the door and pick the lock open. needless to say im not too happy about that, but he was careful. I tried both keys in the door and neither one unlocks the door manually, but both work with the remote. if the car is locked and running the other remote does not work, I have a service appointment in two days, but could you imagine if we had a baby or a dog in the car.
anyone else experince this issue ro have a key that does not work manually in the door?

Interesting. I've never tried the key in the door but I will tonight.

It happened to me with the child buckled inside my Focus wagon. Second set wouldn't unlock the doors: neither keys nor remote. Luckily, I tried the trunk and it opened for me to climb in. Good learning experience.

nope never tested it. it was stuck pin in the door lock that caused the malfunction - all fixed

Maybe you could turn the car off when not attending it..Al Gore would not like it running for no reason, just a thought..
