Just clipping it to the door to hold it in place, or making an electrical connection of the actual wire to the door like you're grounding it? You're replacing a wiring harness? As long as you're not completing a circuit, you shouldn't be in danger of zapping anything. But just like doing wiring in a house, I'd be disconnected from any power source until wiring is in place before I turn the power back on. So if the battery is disconnected, I would think you'd have no issue.
