ACCORDING TO THE MANUAL THE STANDARD FITTED ALARM CAN ONLY BE SET OFF BY ILLEGAL ENTRY CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW I CAN SET THE ALARM OFF TO CHECK IT IS WORKING
ALSO IS IT POSSIBLE TO LOCK THE VEHICLE WITHOUT SETTING THE ALARM AS WE TRAVEL ON FERRIES AND IM NOT SURE WHETHER THE ALARM IS ACTIVATED BY MOTION AS WELL AS ENTRY

I recently purchased a 2005 Mazda Tribute. I live in the Bronx,NY so an alarm is a minimum necessity.
Here's the problem, and what's I've done so far:
I press the LOCK button on the remote and the doors audibly lock.
I press the LOCK button a SECOND time and I hear a CHIRP indicating that the alarm is set.
However, if I leave a window open and open the door from outside with the alarm set, the alarm does not sound.
I've checked to make sure that it isnt just ONE door switch by trying this with all the door and the hatch, and the interior light does come on.

My GUESS is that there is a valet switch somewhere, to keep the alarm from blaring as it was going through a car wash. But I havent found it and have read the manual from beginning to end.

Also, I pressed the panic alarm so that I'm sure the alarm itself is working.

    Please someone help me out...

    Many thanks
    ED
