BMW 5-Series Audio Questions

What am I missing?

I have an 02 5 series (e39), and recently jump started and then replaced the battery. Immediately following the replacement, the radio and cd do not work. The computer works, the clock works, but not the radio or cd. I've owned other bmw's in which a radio code had to be entered. According to my manual, my model has no such code. The dealer confirmed this. I checked the fuses and they are not blown.

Is there a trick to restarting the radio after a battery change? Could the jump start or battery change have caused a problem with the radio? I suppose it could be purely coincidental, but that does not seem likely.

I'd appreciate any thoughts. Thanks.

You should have radio security code paperwork with your owner's manual.

I was hoping to get some feedback from BMW 5 series drivers with a recent DVD installation. I have an 2006 5 series with the media screen. I'm looking to install a DVD player for front passenger. I was told that the current screen/monitor will not be replaced, but cut-outs for on & off switches and the DVD player itself is required.

    Q. Opinion on DVD installation?
    Q. Does it de-value the overall resale value?
    Q. Is the install a clean one?
    Q. What is the recommended location for the DVD player?

    Any comments would be appreciated.

New 530i has RSD feature which displays artist and song in dash. However, after I stored the station into the preset and activated RSD feature it stored the artist in the preset instead of the station. Everytime I go to presets it says alicia keys instead of station. Anyone know how to correct that glitch?

My 1987 528 e, which I purchased 4 months ago has a problem w/ the radio. When I turn it on, I can just barely hear the music, in all 6 speakers. I replaced the amplifier, and the music is only a little be louder, w/ the engine running, I can barely hear the music with the volume all the way up. The appears to be a ground connection to the back of the amp which has no visible wire to connect to it. Does it really have a ground wire? Could the radio be the problem, even though it has power, tunes in stations, all speakers have some music coming through them?

MY 2010 does it. Pre-2010 require a software hack.

On many radios, the case is the ground, and you need to firmly bolt the support bracket to the radio and the car chassis. It will likely get a ground through the antenna connection, but the ground from an old whip antenna (that bolted to the chassis) may not exist on yours. So, you may only have a really low current capability without a good ground. Now, some have a separate ground wire in the harness, and the chassis is a secondary path. That often just goes to an eyelet that gets bolted to the chassis. You'd have to make sure that wasn't bolted to plastic or something that was isolated from vehicle ground.

I had work done on my 2000 528i. Since then, my stereo will not recognize my CD player. I bought the car new/used and do not have the security code. I do have the serial number for the radio but need the 5 digit security code.
Also, after I do get that.... How do I put the code in?

I have a 2010 528 and I inadvertently put some music on my cars hard drive and now it seems that is the default music. Most of the time when I start my car it is playing that music despite the fact that I was either playing my music on my attached Apple Nano or some other music selection. I want to know how to get all that music off the cars hard drive.

I have a 2006 550i which is still under the CPO warranty. last week the navigation screen stopped working (no navigation, radio etc.) oddly enough my cell phone still showed the blue tooth was engaged. I took to the dealer and he advised me the diagnostic tool was not communicating with the i drive. They did a " soft" reset which they said did not work. I was then advised that they would need to due a software upgrade for $500 (they said not covered by CPO) to see if that fixes the problem. They said if this did not work, they would have to install a new CMC $2100+500 already spent, to possible fix the problem. Mdoes anybody know what the problem is (they dont) yet they claim it not covered under the CPO!! Am i getting the run around? BTW i love the car.
