Impreza Towing Capability Questions

If this is a stupid question I am sorry. But I have a small 16ft aluminum fishing boat that at most is 1,000lbs. And all the lakes I fish on are within 20min. and I would not excede 50mph. Is this something the wrx could easily tackle? Or would I be looking and lots of problems because of it? Any help would be greatly appreaciated.

Check your owner's manual. It should be able to handle it. I believe the WRX can tow 2000 (1000 w/o trailer brakes). My concern would be your clutch, assuming you have a 5-speed. The new 2.5 engine would be better suited than the older 2.0, as it has a more tow-friendly powerband.

My Honda is rated to tow 1000 and I tow my 650# rig with no problem. I keep my oil topped up and change coolant every 30000.

I've just ordered the HiddenHitch trailer hitch for my '05wrxwagon and I was wondering if anyone had experience installing a wiring harness or power modulating system?
I assume the stock stuff for the rear lighting is puny and there's no extra harness for electrical in the 05, so I'm looking for an aftermarket unit. There must be something out there, right? ((p.s. this thing is completely stock, with almost no options save a factory short-throw shifter and a sub, which are both crap [-the sub is a useless joke!] and a little more rubber on the road with tires and a slightly aggressive alignment. No guages, no gps, horrible audio, big-time understeer, etc. Basically, it's a clean slate that I intend to start throwing stuff at! ))
So I'll be back with more questions . . .
    Thanks for the help,

Not sure what you are looking for in a short throw shifter but the factory STi short throw is one of the best out there for the subies. Unless you are looking for a ghetto looking one on the floor.

I'm looking at used '05 to '08 Imprezas to tow my tiny 850 lb. pop-up. Consumer Reports info gives towing capacities for the '02 to '06, but then says it's not recommended for the '08. Why the change?

    Thanks!

It's a good question, as new Imprezas in other countries are rated for towing.

FYI: 2007 and earlier Imprezas are rated to tow 2000 pounds—if the trailer has trailer brakes. If not, they can only tow 1000 pounds. Sounds like you should be okay.

All Foresters, except first-generation models, are rated at 2400 pounds, but with the same trailer brake restrictions, if that's of any interest.

Try a Forester, should cost about the same and it is usefully bigger. Plus the towing harness is pre-wired so it'll probably even be an easier installation (plug and play).
