Nissan Altima Security System
We have a 2001 Nissan Altima that the alarm started going off when opening the door. Now the key will no longer unlock the door. Any idea what is happening and how to fix it?

The previous owner only had 1 key. Today I was brushing the snow off of it as I was warming it up to move it out of the driveway. The door closed and --- BINGO --- I was locked out. Without a spare I had to call a tow truck company and they were able to "break-in".
Question 1 --- is there a way to eliminate the automatic door locking while the key is in the ignition. At $40 a pop this could get old fast ...
Question 2 --- The Nissan dealer says tha a new key blank and programming is going to cost a little over $150 !!!!! Do we have any option???
THANK-YOU in advance if you can help.
Can you please help with this vexing issue? I bought a 2002 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL new from the dealer 6 years back.
The remote for our Altima had stopped working. Initially the car used to respond sporadically, but without any sounds (usually associated with locking of the car). But after sometime, it stopped responding completely. I thought it's the battery in the remote and got it replaced. But the problem continues. Never had this problem in the last 6 years.
I, now, suspect that it's an issue with the car sensor. have you guys heard/seen something similar?
Thanks in advance,
