TSB MANIA!
Hello all. Well, have some decent news to report. According to our friends at safercar.gov care of the Office of Defects Investigation, the following list reflects the amount of TSB's currently our there for the 2007 model year light duty pickups in order from least to most...less is better.
Toyota Tundra.....5
Ford F-150..........5
Nissan Titan.........6
Dodge Ram 1500..6
Chevy Silverado 1500.....88
Yes, thats right...88 for the new, high quality GM pickups everyone is raving about. Now please keep in mind for those who are about to jump on me here, TSB's are NOT recalls. Some TSB's can be as simple as a change to the owners manual or can be as severe as transmission and engine problems.
After careful review, GM 1500 series pickups had by far the most severe TSB's out there. Some but not all of these include.....please excuse the caps from the copy paste.....
Air Bag indicator light on, tire wear vibration, 5.3L, LMG, LC9 DRIVEABILITY CONCERN, HESITATION, DTC, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, MISFIRE, FUEL INJECTOR........ , MANUAL HVAC PERFORMANCE, TEMPERATURE, MODE, A/C DOES NOT COOL......INTERMITTENT LOW BATTERY VOLTAGE, ENGINE WILL NOT CRANK, ENGINE CRANKS BUT WILL NOT START, CHARGING SYSTEM LIGHT ON, SERVICE BATTERY CHARGING SYSTEM MESSAGE DISPLAYED..............VARIOUS ELECTRICAL CONCERNS - INTERMITTENTLY FUNCTIONING OR INOPERATIVE COMPONENT, IP WARNING LIGHT ON, DIC MESSAGE DISPLAYED, DTC SET, NO CRANK/START ......... POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKING FROM POWER STEERING GEAR/RACK ASSEMBLY............REAR LEAF SPRING SLAP OR CLUNK NOISE............ ABS LIGHT ON, DTC'S C0265, C0201, U1041 SET AND/OR LOSS OF COMMUNICATION WITH BRAKE MODULE...........CHUGGLE, SURGE OR HESITATION MAY BE FELT WITH ACTIVE FUEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM CYLINDER DEACTIVATION TRANSITION FROM V8 MODE TO V4 MODE............DOOR TRIM GAP AT REAROF DOOR......... FRONT BLOWER MOTOR INOPERATIVE OR MAY NOT SHUT OFF IN EXTREMELY LOW AMBIENT TEMPERATURE CONDITIONS. ..... ENGINE WITH ROUGH IDLE, POOR PERFORMANCE, BLACK/WHITE EXHAUST SMOKE, MIL/SES LIGHT ON.........DIAGNOSTIC INFORMATION ON NAVIGATION RADIO. AFTERMARKET MODULES CAUSING VARIOUS LAN COMMUNICATION CONCERNS AND DTC'S, NO CRANK, VEHICLE STABILITY LIGHTS AND MESSAGES, TPM WARNING LIGHTS, PRNDL POSITION ERRORS..........REAR DRIVE AXLE WHINE..... HUMMING OR BUZZING FROM REAR OF VEHICLE AND/OR POSSIBLE DEAD BATTERY.... FRONT WINDSHIELD GLASS OPTICAL DISTORTION OR STRESS CRACKS....DIESEL FUEL SYSTEM ENGINEERING INVESTIGATION.....TRANSFER CASE CONTROL MODULE INVESTIGATION......SUSPENSION VIBRATION OR FRAME BEAMING AT 40 - 60 MPH...........whew!!!
These are just some problems people. Yes, TSB's can be a good thing because then mechanics know how to fix the problems....but the shear amount of them compared to Ford, Dodge, Nissan and Toyota is staggering.
So the next time someone in a GM truck wants to make fun of your Titan, point out performance and durability to them. 6 compared to 88? No contest. Its called poor engineering, parts, and assembly all rolled into one. Imagine the problems down the road. Congrats to Ford on improving their assembly and design practices.
