New Suburban cargo limitations--darn GM to heck
Now that our '02 Suburban 4x4 LT 1/2-ton has 159k miles on it, we're starting to set our sights on a new one in a year or 2...maybe that nice hybrid if they offer it on the Sub, with its 22 mpg.
But I'll be DARNED if I can live with not being able to put a 4x8 sheet of plywood in the back of the biggest SUV available. It's all because of those utterly stupid middle row tumbling seats that double themselves up against the back of the front seats. On top of that, there's no longer a flat cargo floor. How in the world could those idiot product people destroy such utility in this way?
If someone knows of a solution to this, I'm all ears. Meanwhile, I'll plan on driving our '02 into the ground and I expect it to go to 300k miles at least. That, or GM can fix this problem or offer an option that handles it.

Those engineers got caught up in the Soccer Mom trap. They forgot that real working people need real working Suburbans without all the BS overpriced options that cut down on the vehicle versatility. GM should build a basic Burban....flat floor, no fold up electric seats, (just like the older models), get rid of all the standard luxury toys, etc. Make the options available to buyers if they want them but build a basic tough stripped-down, lean and mean work vehicle (just like the older models).
You can't buy an actual "utility" Suburban anymore...they're too gussied up as lux vehicles.
I would say however: My '02 is all fixed up with just about every option available at the time I bought it and I enjoy all the doodads and the utility as well.
So if they did offer a utility-oriented model with flat floors, I'd still want to option it up with everything available. Just don't make me buy it as an Escalade.
