Does anyone know what size speakers are in the door panels and the size pf the speakers in the back as well in an 05' civic LX

The speakers are 6 1/2" round in the front and back in the LX sedan. The coupe has 6" X 9" in the rear.

I was wondering if it is possible to install rear disk brakes instead of the original drums that Honda putted on the civic? I know that the Acura 1.7 EL is almost the same car and it comes with rear disk brakes, but I dont know if it would fit on the Civic???

i still have not gotten a stright answer about my model issue, i have a honda civic SI, 1.7 L engine. everywhere i look for aftermarket parts they ask if my models a ex,lx, or si, when i tell them mines an SI they look up the part for the SIR which is a 2.0 L engine, why do i keep getting this prob when dealing with U.S companys.

Hey there... I'm guessing that your rims offset is 42 or higher. I had my 92 hatchback cx for about 5 years so I'm a bit familiar with the car. I found that 15 X 6.5 rims with 40 offset work best in the EG models. They work great with the car's balance. If you have 16 X 7 rims use a 205X40X16 tire, that worked some okay with my set up. Also, find out from the previous owner if the car was hit. That could be another reason why. What kind of suspension are runing? Coilovers, camber kits and so on... About the swap, get a B16 from either a CRX or an Si (look for low miles), but for better results get a B18B bottom end from an Integra and put a B16 Vtech head, you get the best of both worlds, the 142 of torque (from the B18B) and the 160 HP from the B16. This swap is a lot cheaper than buying a B18C engine just make sure you get a good Honda shop to do the drilling for the oil pass, if you live in California, you should have no problems finding one.

    Hello,

I'm in the Chicago area looking to add leather to my 2006 Civic EX when I get it.

Does anyone have any pictures to show and/or places they've been for this? How much was it?

Secondly, will heated seats work as well or will it drain the battery? Is it okay to have the interior illumination and heated seats?

    All help would be appreciated!

    Thanks!

I just bought a 02 EX Coupe and the dealer has already washed his hands off the car. I noticed a bright light, a blue coloured LED indicator that comes ON every time I step on the gas to accelerate the car. The light, even though unnoticable in the day, is very bright and irritating during the night time, specially when it comes on and goes off regularly. There is a small sticker on top of the light which reads "VTEC". This light is just next to the 12 amp socket below the AC control panel. Any idea what this light may be and if it is standard equipment? Thanks in advance.

I am currently trying to install a remote starter/alarm combo to my 1993 Honda Civic. The device is an X-Sheild XS-800S. I was told by the manufacturer that it works for both manual and automatic transmission, although it only came with installation diagrams for automatic transmission.
I am looking for some information on how to wire the remote starter part of the system for a manual car. I know that I must bypass the starter wire and somehow connect to the clutch switch, but I don't know how.
If anyone can help me or has come across a good resource, please let me know.
    Thanks for the help,

    Hello,

Has anyone here had the interior illumination installed on an '06 Civic? Any pics other than the one on Honda's site?

    Thanks! :)

I busted the right passenger side tail light on my 05' Honda Civic.. I wanted to know how much it should cost to repair one or probably replace. And there are some deep scratches on the bumper and I wanted to know if that would cost a lot to? Thanks.

Has anyone purchased / installed the XM Satellite Radio Kit on a new 2006 Civic that is "XM-Ready"? If so, how much did you pay (parts and labor)? Is it possible to buy parts for this that are not Honda parts (i.e. cheaper)? If so, where? Did anyone have someone other than their dealer install it (e.g. Best Buy)? I want to add XM directly to the navigation unit on a new 2006 Civic Sedan EX with navigation, but most dealers want to charge around $700-800!!! What a rip-off! Price should be no more than half of that! Please let me know. Thanks.

Hi all. My name is Cait. I'm nineteen and I am looking to buy my very first car. When researching the Honda civic, I realized that, besides the year, manual or automatic transmision were NOT my only options. Can someone please tell me what these different "trims" are all about (a.k.a. these extra letters and numbers and price differences)? Thanks again (please forgive my ignorance)...

I just bought a 99 Civic LX with the stock AM/FM radio. I would like to upgrade to a CD player. Can I use the AM/FM/CD radio out of an EX model? Do these radios require an external amp or other equipment, or would it just be plug and play? I'm considering obtaining one from a slavage yard or from eBay. Most of these radios don't have the anti theft code available, but they claim that it can be obtained from the dealer. Will a Honda dealer give me the code if I have the radio in hand, or do I need additional information? Thanks for your help! -Brian

Just got my civic and I love it...except for the stereo - which is not bad - but I would like to replace the back speakers with a brand that can produce a little more bass, not deep hip hop thumping bass, but a decent sound without getting too technical; no amps, just good speakers. Something I can install on my own - pop off, replace, etc...Any suggestions?

    Hi:

I replaced the rear speakers in the 2006 civic lx with pioneer 6.5"
*coaxial* speakers but not because of bass response. This otherwise
excellent car is tainted by crappy speakers which have
high-frequecy rattle or buzz or jingle on female voices or music
with cymbals. I am surprised that no honda review has mentioned this
    distortion.

The factory speakers have a plastic frame with a tiny magnet. Even
the dirt cheap speakers from wal-mart have a metal frame with hefty
magnet. Do you see where this is going?

The factory speakers have only one mounting screws and two plastic
tabs to place them in the mounting hole. To access the mounting
screw you have to pop a plastic cover from inside the trunk and
then unscrew from the back seat.

Since the mounting hole is horseshoe shaped, no aftermarket speaker
will fit. I had to cover the hole with a ring cut from 1/4"
polystrene to adapt to the round speaker.

If you want solid bass, you need an amp and enclosed subwoofer.
If the woofer is not contained, the trunk lid and plastic panels
in the civic will vibrate giving loud, cheap sound.

    Cheers,
    BobMc

i just got a performance camshaft for my 1.7L civic si. does my engine require any upgrades in order for my aftermarket camshaft to work properly? plus so far i have changed the following, cold air intake, header, and full exhaust i believe everything from air intake to exhaust is well balanced (correct me if im wrong) i am now thinking of changing my factory pulley system with a AEM pulley system or something, with the new pulley would there be anything say "unbalanced"? any help or repley would be very helpfull!!! thanks

I put an intake on my '06 last week but it's not SI, it's an LX Sedan. It's a Fujita and I'm happy with it. I think AEM is the only one that has one for the SI, but it looks like Fujita is coming out with one for SI soon(see www.ptuning.com)

For Exhaust, I found some universal exhaust system's, didn't know if I should wait if considering upgrading the exhaust on the Civic and what the best thing to do on it is....any thoughts? :)
  • dmcivicdmcivic Member Posts: 1
Yeah, when I bought my '06 XL without Nav, I have a designated button that reads "XM Ready" and no one at the dealer told me that well...it isn't really XM ready until I spend $700 to have it "ready". I was really ticked off and threatened to drive it back just on principle alone. They worked with me and gave me the unit for $400 which also included the labor. It is a labor intensive deal which takes 5+ hours to install.

I could've done the best buy deal but that would've meant i would've had to have had the external unit and mess up the dash.

someone needs to explain to honda what the word "ready" means and that $700 for XM is such a joke.
  • blaneblane Member Posts: 2,017
    dmcivic,

Those Honda lawyers must have worked overtime on the entirely misleading phrase "XM Ready" before marketing the 2006 Civics.

You did very well getting your dealer to do the job for only $400. But when I read this 16-page installation procedure I decided that I wouldn't want my vehicle torn apart and possibly reassembled incorrectly.

    http://www.collegehillshonda.com/instructions/8th_gen_civ_sedan/xmradio.pdf

I was concerned about squeeks and rattles in the dashboard area and elsewhere after such major surgery. I also think that the inside-the-windshield antenna location is just plain dumb. See pages 11 through 14 here:

    http://delphi.com/pdf/consumer/skyfi2_installation_manual.pdf

I'll stick with my 2004 Accord with factory XM until Honda gets real about the proper way to equip Civics with XM.

It cracks as my Type S did after 20k.You can't get good leather on a car that cost 20k. Your going to spend 2k for decent leather and heated seats don't drain the battery.
You need to go to a shop that specialises in seat upholstry.

    Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for achieving better MPG. I'm thinking about adding a cold air intake and I'm also thinking about adding a chip to my car. If anyone has any affordable modification ideas around 0-$500 that is practical I would love to hear them...
  • jonallenjonallen Member Posts: 30
The commonest mistake made concerning efficiency modifications is that driving habits are not paramount. If you are not gentle with both the accelerator and the brakes, you are doomed to be disappointed. If you drive a Civic Ex, you are not going to do as well as less powerful models, but you can still do reasonably well by killing the engine whenever you're stopped for more than 10 seconds, keeping an above average distance from the car ahead of you so that you can safely coast as much as possible, and burning the lowest octane fuel specified by manual. Swapping the fuel injection IC might result in a leaner, more efficient mix, but driving habits and proper maintenance are bigger factors.
  • ruking1ruking1 Member Posts: 19,826
Learning to drive SMOOTHLY, is indeed your best lesson!! The gig is to get the most wear and the best mpg for each and every one of your "driving conditions"

You are much better off using the money you put into buying those items in the bank and investing and or drawing tax free interest. Neither will seriously aid you in your goals.

Cold air intakes will actually let in more particulate matter than the stock air filter. This increases engine wear and if you are doing UOA's, point you in the direction of more frequent oil change intervals, which as you probably can deduce is oxymoronic to "saving" money. If you get an "oiled" filter, oil CAN migrate to your MAF and cause problems $'s....

A chip will decrease your reliability, but more importantly actually encourage you to "FEEL" the new power on tap. So if you have a automatic transmission, a modest increase in HP and torque should not cause more engine/drivetrain wear. However, if you have a manual transmission, most are built and mated with very little room for upgrades in hp and torque. The application of the new hp and torque will actually accelerate clutch wear as a min. (Clamping issues)

Can anyone with an '06 LX Coupe tell me whether or not the MP3 input jack (that comes standard with the car) allows a person to control their Ipod with the stereo controls or do you have to have the Ipod music link that's advertised on the Honda site?
  • roxychickroxychick Member Posts: 8
I have an '06 LX Coupe and I listen to my iPod EVERY DAY in that thing, but yea, in order to control the iPod through the stereo, you need the Honda iPod accessory. Technically, it's better to use the music link b/c it charges the iPod while it plays so for long trips you don't have to worry about your iPod going dead. However, for the price (installation isn't included in the figure on the website) in my opinion, you're fine off with just using your iPod controls.

What size, and how many light bulbs do I need to replace the headlights on my Honda Civic 2005 EX?
I am a new owner to a Honda Civic 05 EX. I have been having a difficult time finding and replacing the headlights. I purchased the car with blue headlights. I now realize I can't purchase that light bulb because it is now illegal. I'm fine with that. However, I am not sure what model of bulb I need to replace the headlight with. I have had several trips to Pep Boys and Kragen. I'm not sure if I need a 9005 or a 9006 bulb. In addition to this I was just told that my car needs 6 lightbulbs, 3 on each side. Is that correct?

When I opened the navigation unit to expose the CD player, I noticed a PCMCIA slot labeled PC Card. I asked the sales guy about this and he told me it was used for updating the GPS when a new DVD is mailed to me. Huh? There's a DVD slot for the GPS DVD disk...

The Audio system seems to indicate that it can play MP3 files from the PC Card. So I put in a "no driver required" CompactFlash to PCMCIA adapter card with a 1GB CF memory card, loaded with about 8 CDs worth of MP3 files. Bingo, it works.

Does anyone know if other types of PCMCIA memory card adapters will work? I've got more XD and SD cards than CompactFlash... Also, what is the upper memory limit for that card slot? Will it handle a 4GB card? A microdisk?

Finally, are there any other devices that it can use, e.g.: BlueTooth adapter to integrate with a cell phone?

    Thanks!

    John.

I haven't been able to figure out how to get the navigation system's audio display to show RDS information for FM stations (e.g.: Song title, performer name, etc.)

Is there a secret I need to know to get this to work? Could Honda have forgotten about RDS?

If you have RDS info working on your 2006 Civic Hybrid navigation display, can you please tell me the software version you are running?

    Thanks,

    John.

I put a fujita intake on my '06 Civic LX. Been happy with it, cheapest I've seen it is at www.ptuning.com. I've put about 5000 miles on the car and I'm now getting about 34mpg. That's with stop and go traffic in commuting.
  • skiatlskiatl Member Posts: 20
    I use a 6 in 1 adapter with a 1gb SD card.....works great.
  • skiatlskiatl Member Posts: 20
Pretty sure RDS is not supported on these...at least my EX Navi does not. Seems like that, as well as MPG calculator would be something to have integrated into the display.

    Hey all,

I just bought the 2006 civic EX sedan. I thought that XM ready also meant that all I had to do was call XM and get a subscription, boy was I wrong!! I called the dealer back and he said the part was $400.00 I said screw that it says XM ready and the guy who sold me the car never explained what the difference between XM ready and XM equipted meant! When buying the car I had specifically said that I wanted a car with XM. They told me I could go the cheaper route by putting something on my dash! I said no way I paid 20000 for this car to have XM radio ready, I mean for God's sake it says it right on the dash and there is also a button for XM! Very misleading!! Anyway The dealer wasn't moving too quickly so I called Honda and raised hell. The Honda Rep said there is nothing he could do for me I said are you kidding me?? I said is this customer service?? Don’t you service the customer because if you don’t what is it that you actually do! I was so pissed. Finally he said well fine I will have this case brought to a District rep. So surprisingly the rep called me the very next day and we talked about it for a while and went around and round. About an hour later I got a call from the dealership I purchased the car from and he said that they were going to order the part and put it in for me at no charge!!!! Wow I was totally surprised! So I'm happy about that but the XM ready is very misleading and it’s a class action law suit waiting to happen!! So I go to get it installed on Monday, hopefully it turns out good and they don’t try to scam me somehow!!! Catch yeah later Rob
  • bluedevil229bluedevil229 Member Posts: 1
You need the Ipod link to use the radio controls. The auxiliary input lets you listen to your Ipod (or any other music player, for that matter), but to control the Ipod, you need music link. To tell you the truth, the link isn't that great anyway. I mean, it's ok, but it won't display your song title or any other ID3 tag like the CD player will, and its kind of a hassle using the software. Hopefully there will be some revisions or patches to it in the near future. As it stands, if this is the final product, with no updates; if I had known about all the little "quirks", I would probably not have bought it and just used the auxiliary input.

Does anyone know if the Civic EX's Navigation mp3 player supports CompactFlash type II [aka the IBM Micridrive]? Also, what's the maximum gigabyte capacity that it'll recognize? I'm debating on whether to go with a 4gb sd card or an 8gb CompactFlash type II. Not sure if either will work, though I think I have a better shot with the sd.

I just purchased a SanDisk 6 in 1 PC Card Adapter. I loaded mp3 files on my 1gb sd card. When I try to play it in my car it sounded bad. If I take out the card adapter and play the sd card in my computer the music sounds normal.

Anyone know why? Could it be a bad PC Card Adapter? I used real player to save the files to my sd card.

    Rob,

Hi there. Did they install the equipment? I'm really curious since I am right now going through your pain. Dealer told me it had XM. Owner's manual says all you have to do is call XM to turn it on. Nothing anywhere in the stuff given to me when I bought the car says anything about yet more hardware.

Hell, the definition of "Ready" is, "to be completely prepared or in condition for immediate action or use." This does not sound like the case to me. If Honda's into putting non-functional features on their cars, then I would like to see a "Photon Torpedo Ready" button and a "Deflector Shield Ready" button (all of course with some additional required hardware:)

    Cheers,

    Rick

    Hi Rick!

Yes they did install the XM for me. I had a good salesman. He admitted he told me wrong, which I'm sure helped my situation. But the bottom line is that it says ready! I could not believe it when they told me the part was going to be 400 sum dollars! I had to call Honda myself and [non-permissible content removed]! The first customer service guy told me there was nothing he could do. He kept on telling me that XM ready and XM equipped are two different things! I told him ready means ready! Just think if you told your wife or girlfriend supper was ready and when she went to the table to eat there was nothing there! I thought supper was ready she asks and you say it is ready you just have to go to the store and get it!! HAHAHA She would kick your butt! Anyway I fought through to a district manager and well even that was a struggle! It all paid off for me in the end as the dealership ponied up and installed the XM Factory unit for me! Even gave me a free oil change!! You should get it for free!! call them and [non-permissible content removed]! Don’t settle for anything less then free! They gave it to me free why not you! Honda knows this is an issue!! They will give it to you!! Just don’t back down and don’t take no for an answer!! It does work well and you will also get a free 3 months!! When you call to activate tell XM you bought a New Civic and they will have a free trial for you!! The dealership I bought my car from was the motor Inn in Albert Lea Minnesota!!! Let me know how it goes!!! Good Luck!!!

Thanks for the additional info. The press release is amazing. I definitely will be having a long discussion with Honda tomorrow. I've already told the dealership (after listening to someone tell me that 'ready doesn't really mean ready') to either install it or explain why not in small claims.

Incidentally, you can download from the internet a PDF of the dealer install directions for the XM unit. A total of 68 steps which entails taking most of the dash, center console, and trunk trim out to route the cables. Hardly the definition of ready. I'm an engineer and the level of disassembly/reassembly scares the hell out of me.

All in all I think the car is great. A super machine which is really (there's that word again) easy on the gas. I'll keep you posted on my outcome.

    Hi MonkeyNinja,
I'm due to take delivery of a 06 Civic EX coupe within the next week. I too have an IPod, and one of the selling points for me was the MP3 input. I considered the added expense of the I-link cable, but after reading this review (link title), I've decided to save my money and just use the MP3 input. Looks like Honda has a long way to go to make a user-friendly IPod controller.
