Prolly the best way to move a new or used Daewoo, is to GIVE them away.

I have no want or need for Christianity, and should have to be bombarded with it on a car list.
"Ke-chooo!"
God Bless You!

As the owner of two Proteges, I'm putting money in Ford's pocket. But after seeing all the troubles Ford has had in the last few years with the Ranger, Taurus, Escape and Focus, combined with all the hoopla (Ford's fault or not) over the Explorer tires, they really, really need to get their act together!
And news like this (today) doesn't help ...

The Echo is still running great and I have over 32,000 miles in little over a year on him.
Personally, I am down to one car since I sold the '93 Escort over the weekend.
You guys have not been that busy posting since the last time I checked in. Only 52 posts since then. I remember when we did 52 posts in a day. Of course, three fourths of those would have been mine. ; )
I went to our local auto show back in March and I must say that, of the low end cars, I was most impressed with the Corolla CE. Very Lexus like build quality. Got to see all three trim levels and just did not like the body kit on the S and did not like the fake wood trim in the LE.
My roommate is still in the market for a new car and the Corolla has gone to the top of the list. The Civic (sedan) has fallen of the list because we got to ride (as passengers) in one and we both found the seats really hard and uncomfortable.
We probably won't go with another Echo because we want something different to drive than what we already have.
I got to see the new Civic Si and I was not that impressed with the styling. I also got to see the Matrix and Vibe twins. I like the styling on the Vibe better than the Matrix.
I also got to see the Suzuki Aero (or however you spell it) and did not really like it either.
There was one glaring absence from our auto show and that was Daewoo. No manufacturer's presence and no dealership displays.
If money were no object, I would get the new BMW 7-Series. Very sharp car and nice wood treatment.
Sorry if my lengthy absences bother anyone. I am back to working twelve hour days and after you add in the time I spend sleeping (eight hours), that does not leave much time for fun stuff, not to mention necessary activities like eating.
See you guys later.
I secured the rental with a major credit card, but when it came time to pay for the actual cost (when I turned the car back in) I paid by check. I was told I should not worry and my credit card would not be debited for the cost of the rental.
In checking my available credit a few weeks after the rental, I noticed a discrepancy and called the credit card company. The explanation was the $42.93 charge by the car rental company. A charge they were not entitled to.
I called the rental company up and a woman said she saw the error and would get it corrected. Given this, I did not take my credit card company's offer of putting the amount into dispute.
In getting ready to pay last month's credit card bill, I noticed the debit for the $42.93, but no corresponding credit for the same amount.
I called the credit card company and the rental company had never credited my account like they said they would. Given the age of the charge, my credit card company refused to do a simple dispute. They wanted more proof that the charge was not valid.
Not wanting to jump through the hoops, I called the rental car company. They wanted me to jump through the same hoops of providing proof that my check had been cashed and thus the rental company was not entitled to have charged my credit card.
I don't get my cancelled checks back which meant calling up my bank and getting a copy of the cancelled check. This cost me two dollars.
When I got my cancelled check from the bank, I faxed it and a letter to the rental car company. In a nice way I told them that they were wrong and I was right. I also told them that to get my business in the future, I wanted a free weekend rental of a car in the same class as what I had rented back in January. I felt the punishment would fit the crime this way.
I played phone tag with a representative of the car rental company for awhile, but the end result is that I will be getting a coupon for a free weekend rental for a car in ANY class. I am going to wait until this company starts renting the 2003 Corolla and use the coupon then.
But get real, man... you can rent ANY CAR and you are going to rent a COROLLA?? Consider that some of these rental companies have cars like Jag S-Types, Volvo S-80s, and if you're lucky even a Hyundai XG350! :-) I think some even have Porsches. You can always rent a Corolla; why not take full advantage of the reward for your persistence?
But this weekend, I am off and the roomie is not "on call" so we are going to take a test drive of a Corolla, a Celica, and probably the Matrix (although I don't like the looks of it).
Then, we are going down the road and test drive some Hyundais.
I want to make one clarification about something I said in a post in this thread. The Suzuki that I don't like the looks of is the hatchback version of the Aero (spelling). They did not have the sedan on display.
I haven't seen the Suzuki hatch, only sedan. It's extremely tall so probably packs a lot of space. Dimbulb LED instruments are a real turnoff IMHO.
Celebrated my birthday with an update of 2000 Kia Sephia purchased 4-29-2000. After 2 years of flawless performance, no speeding tickets, and 43650 miles with trips from Green Bay to NYC and GB to Ft Lauderdale I did the dirty deed.
When I first entered discussion of Kia lots of nasty comments were flying mostly by folks who had no experience with the car. I have consistently chalked up 33mpg on a Baby Benz style Sephia which has now returned to its dealer to be recycled in the sales process. (KBB $6100!)
From the getgo I've been intuitively attempting to determine the right time to turn this white puppy Sephia over to someone else to support its repair. Two months ago I replaced the "H" tires at a nominal $220(of course not 'H') and last month I finally broke down and tuned it up. It had been so good following the initial failure of the 'knock sensor' which lit as I took possession back on 28April2000 with 129miles. But I took the risk and have been so pleased that I followed my compulsion to trade in the Sephia. I checked the specs for Kia Spectra & Optima as well as Hyundai Elantra. Actually I would have liked to move up to a midsize, but I am not willing to put bigger bucks into the vehicle. The only combination that seemed to work was the Spectra. Starting with a Base price of $11490 Kia offered a $2000 rebate on Spectra. I bought Sephia in Milwaukee from same owner/dealer as in hometown. It was $1000 cheaper, but lacked power steering, radio, & wheel covers. I wasnt going without power steering this time. Checked the Milwaukee paper ad and there it was Spectra $8766. Brought the ad to local dealer branch turns out it included a $400 new college graduate discount on top of the $2000. Scratch the $400.
But folks heres the deal. At 43600 got $4100 for Sephia. This is the car I paid $8625 T&T. Now KBB only predicted $3750 and ED only $3250. So add the $4100 & $2000 and what I have is new Spectra for $4987!!!! Now that the numbers were crunched I asked to take a ride. Well didnt seem to be too much gas in this car which was shipped in on March 28th from Tacoma. So I told him lets get some. I drove it about 5 five miles on the expressway and closed the deal with 29miles on the odometer. The ride was smooth, the 5speed like silk, and the power steering something I have missed for two years. Although I missed the student discount, I feel I got one good deal. Now I had to navigate past the salesmans disability insurance, and the $450 the business manager wanted to tack on a maintenance contract (GOF). April is a good month to buy a Kia. You have until 30 April to pick up the discounts. I'll miss the Baby Benz look but Spectra has delusions of Bimmer. Ride on!! Supreme.

Listen up. A Sephia is not a Benz and Spectra is not a BMW; however, each vehicle is styled and marketed. My old neighbor owned a baby Benz and the Sephia sat next to it. Maybe, the Benz model was older than 2000, but from the rear there were reasonable semblences. And we were both meticulous in caring for our puppies. Perhaps thats why I got almost $1000 more in trade value than Edmunds TMV suggests or maybe because I put on a new set of tires and tuned it up and those two items really sold the trade appraiser, huh? It neither took away from the quality of the Benz nor the financial economy of the Sephia. Consider, one could own 3 Sephias for the price of one Benz. As for the Spectra Im beginning to see close semblences to the Taurus styled taillights; still, I could buy two Spectras for the price of one Taurus.
Is the Spectra improved over the Sephia. Yes! I put 43000 miles on the Sephia in 2 years. First improvement is the drivers seat. Spectra is more substantial. It has a variety of controls which I havent even begun to play with yet. You can elevate the seat manually; it almost feels inflated. You ride higher off the ground and if I were to test a more expensive equal sized car it probably feels more like the expensive car ride. Im no mechanic but maybe there is some suspension improvement too? Alls I know is that it rides better. Right! Guess ill look forward to the 200 mile trip Friday & see how the lengthy trip turns out. No need to belabor the ease of power steering compared to its absence in my model Sephia; but I wanted financial economy and bought it with that in mind as I have done with Spectra. 2002 Spectra has dual map lights above the rear view mirror, a plus. The front dash compartment (for tapes) has a cover. And the 5speed tranny glides like a lubricated trojan. There is no comparison to Sephia--its just that much improved. You see it only took me 5 miles to decide to go ahead with Spectra. And by the way, the rear seat back folds down to permit extended cargo space from the trunk.
Im the guy who owned a '72Datsun Coupe and ran it into the ground by 80000miles and replaced it with a '76 Mazda Coupe until we couldnt fit all the kids in at the same time. So now Ive simplified my life again and saving money at it also. More complicated equipment means more repairs. Of course, I would prefer to drive a BMW than a Spectra, but I couldnt buy a '02 BMW for $4987 plus my '00 Sephia, but I could get the Spectra. Is the Spectra as good as a BMW or Benz;
you bet it is because I can afford to own the Spectra and although I could afford to get a BMW or Benz, I probably couldnt afford to put gas in them. So I'll settle for the low end until im able to move up. I have owned two new Kias in two years. The cost for two brand new cars has been less than $14,000!!!!! And Im a happy camper. And isnt that what its all about? Supreme.
My complaints about the 01 and earlier cars was never that the looks of the car was horrible, just that so many of the small details were wrong. Just the opposite from my Elantra where the details are all wonderful, even though the car looks a bit too much like a Malibu from the side and the Impala from the front to make me happy.
GREAT CAR!!!!!!!!

It's called an OVER ALLOWANCE.

The salesman who sold me my Echo was not with the dealership anymore because he went back to finish up his degree. He was selling cars as a temporary way to make money so anyway I looked up the salesman I met when I first went to the dealership to take a look at the Corollas.
I told him that my roommate and I wanted to take a look at a 2003 Corolla CE with automatic transmission. I said nothing else about any other options. He brought up a car equipped exactly how we wanted it. And in a great color.
He first had me drive down a bumpy and rough back road. The Corolla was pretty quiet and it soaked up the bumps.
The A/C was ice cold. While it was on full blast and we were driving down the back roads, I reduced my speed to about twenty and stepped down on the gas. The upshifts were smooth and the car did not seem to hesitate or lose power.
The build quality is top notch, but not surprising when you know the car is built to Lexus specs at a plant in Canada that also builds Lexuses.
I not only drove the car, but I sat in the front passenger seat while my roommate drove. Both seats are very comfortable. The passenger seat was much, much more comfortable than that of the Honda Civic I was in.
When we got back to the dealership, I climbed in the backseat and there does seem to be a good amount of room.
A very, very nice car that should be on anyone's list who is looking for a car in this category.
I will have to say that it is highly readable. I would not cross the Aerio off your list because of the digital instruments. My roommate stayed in the Echo so I cannot tell you her reaction.
The sales manager is the one who helped me and I told him we would be back on Saturday for a test drive.
I really, really like the looks of the Aerio sedan, but I seriously doubt my roommate picks it over a 2003 Corolla.
If we don't get a Corolla for her, I would bet the car we do get is another Echo. On the way to the Suzuki dealership, we passed a red Echo and my roommate said how much she likes my Echo especially the interior and likes the Echo's interior more than the Corolla's interior. She also really likes the center mounted gauge cluster of the Echo.
I think we will head back to the Toyota dealership on Saturday and test drive an automatic Echo.
One clarification on the Lexus build quality of the Corolla: it is Lexus-spec build quality, but of the previous-generation Lexii (per Toyota spokesperson as quoted in USA Today).
And the Corolla was tops in JD Powers survey of quality for small cars last year. I don't see it falling out of the top spot.
Remember when I shared purchase of 2000 Kia Sephia 4-28-2000 @ $8650 T&T?
Remember when I traded to 2002 Kia Spectra for
$4987 @ 43,650 miles?
Puppy White Sephia w/o its 4 dings is sitting on the new car lot at $9995, folks. And by the way, when I was cleaning out the puppy, I dumped everything into a shoe box. Well, I came across the original
sticker for the puppy. Folks, MSRP listed at $9,995.00 plus inland freight and handling. What car besides a Benz or Bimmer sells for its original MSRP with 43,650 miles after 102 weeks? Is the KIA SEPHIA improved was the question of the day in April 2000. Now tell me. Supreme
AND KKB prices the puppy @ $6100. Supreme.
I did take a little closer look at the new Spectras and think construction quality has improved a bit over the last couple of years. I sat in an 02 Rio and it appears to be inching upscale compared to the 01, it had a tach for instance (just like the Cinco).
