Last week was the end of last month. Wait until the end of this month and you might get the same deal they got.

I am looking for 2008 accord 4 cyl in ny & nj, any dealer can offer invoice price or $200 over invoice for this vehicle? please inform me. thanks.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
Make sure your price quote includes both the destination charge and any dealer "doc" or "prep" fees. Some dealers are famous for giving a low quote and leaving these things out and then when you try to buy the car they add these things on and your nice deal turns a lot worse.

Where are you guys getting these deals???!!!

    200 over INVOICE?!

    100 below INVOICE?!

Are these deals only happening for the SEDAN???

I'm trying to get a Coupe (EX-L), and these dealerships are saying,"These Coupes are in great demand, there is no way we go below MSRP..."

Maybe I just have bad negotiating skills.... :(
  • jaxs1jaxs1 Member Posts: 2,697
The coupes just started shipping to the dealers. They hardly have any 2008 coupes at this point. You will have to wait for better selection and prices.

I have shopped my area NE Fl. and can get the following:

2008 V6 EX-L no nav, but door side moldings and BU sensors delivered..TTL/Fees for 30,388 this is cost 500 dollars worth of extras...how much more to push??
  • mppedersenmppedersen Member Posts: 25
Called around to dealers last night in the DC area...

My target was $25,300 out the door, which translates to $23,165 + $635 destination + 5% Maryland tax + $193 tag and title.

Lowest bid so far was $25,900 out the door... up to $27,700 out the door. My high target was $25,500 out the door.

Two dealerships wanted me to buy what was on their lot (good) but had manditory "apperance packages" at $595, which include pinstripes (they look bad after 5 years), mudguards and wheel locks... Plus their prices are not that great, roughly $26,800 out the door.

I told the one dealership my price target and he told me I was being way too aggressive and hung up the phone :P

All the dealers I called cried about not making a profit... I said $500 over invoice plus a $750 holdback is a decent profit....

I have yet to see a 2008 Honda Accord on the road in the DC area. I think the dealerships are being too aggressive on price.

2008 honda sedan ex-l with nav 500 over invoice which will be +635 destination =28539+189 for tags +399 dealers prep+ tax OTD+31965
  • jaxs1jaxs1 Member Posts: 2,697
You mean the EX-L with nav and V6 engine?
It's not really $500 over invoice if they are charging $399 for dealer prep.
Decide if $899 over invoice is good enough. If you are financing through them, buying more stuff not listed above (warranty, credit insurance etc.) and trading in another vehicle, they will be making more money. Maybe a lot more.
  • iandeleoniandeleon Member Posts: 20
Well, I realize that some dealerships STILL have 2007 Accord Coupes on their lot, hence the strong "MSRP or nothing" Stance.

Also, I went to go test drive the new 2008 Accord Coupe EX-L 4 Cyl., and while I was there, there had to have been 4 or 5 other people looking to inquire about the same car!

The demand is just too high to get a deal right now. I think I'd have to pay FULL MSRP to get into one RIGHT NOW!

I have time to think about it though. The dealerships have 1 OR 2 on lot and won't get but maybe 10 or so in the next month, and half of them are already HELD WITH DEPOSIT by potential buyer!!!

It's gonna be hard to get a DEAL here in Houston...

Geez, I'm 29, and just now learning about this buying process. I wish they just had set prices for cars, so you don't have to worry about whether you get a bargain or not...
  • neil5neil5 Member Posts: 118
    I also got tinting
  • jaxs1jaxs1 Member Posts: 2,697
Well, the supply is very low. It doesn't take a huge demand to quickly sell 2 cars. Lots of curious people go to car dealers to test drive newly released models, so it isn't unusual to see multiple people looking at each car when they only have one or two of those cars on their lot.
Wait for all the 2007s to be replaced with a full stock of 2008 coupes.

that sounds very good to me did that quote include dealer prep ie otd before taxes etc?
  • samic1080samic1080 Member Posts: 10
For the 08 EX-L i4 AUTO without Navi in the Chicagoland area I'm being offered 487 above invoice (if you calculate invoice at 24,063 including destination). Out the door is about 26,627. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

They were charging me a bogus protection package (around 800) they were unwilling to negotiate on which included pin stripes. Frankly I wouldn't want them even if they were free and told them this up front. I agree with the previous blog that stated pin stripes wear out after a few years. This happened to my 98 Prelude. I told them the rubber guards on the door edges they had on messed up the look of the car and that as an "option" I didn't want them for the price they had. They said they add it to all their cars and can't take them off because it'll cost them money and labor. After much negotiation back and forth they finally said they wouldn't charge me. The car is being prepped right now and I'm having them take the pin stripes off. I don't know what they'll do with the edge guards, they can take them off and throw them away for all I care. If the car passes my inspection I'm thinking about closing on the deal. I would have closed today but getting the car prepped and cleaned took more than four hours. I left the dealer after four hours since members of my party were becoming very hungry.

There was a lot of glue on the body from when the car had white protection paper taken off after transportation. I assume they had just received the car maybe a few days earlier and didn't even have time to give it a good cleaning. This car had 23 miles on it. The car I was looking at before this one was very clean on the outside and only had 5 miles on it (I declined that car because someone had keyed the side, noone had noticed it in my party until we examined the paint carefully after the test drive for flaws).

Is it normal that there is a gluely film after the delaer removes the white protection paper? Of course they are supposed to clean it up is this gluely film actually from the protection paper or is my leg being pulled?
  • stevenq99stevenq99 Member Posts: 36
I found the film you were seeing on Accords at my local dealer. I think it is the shipping protection.
  • samic1080samic1080 Member Posts: 10
    Steve,

It could be the shipping protection. The saleman came out with a towel and "special" (cough cough) cleaner that takes off the gunk from the body. It took a whole LOT of elbow greese just to clean a small corner of the car.

I've been getting a lot of quotes for A 2008 Accord. Based upon what I've been offered, $487 above invoice is a decent deal. If they are charging you another $200-$300 for a doc/prep fee then I think you could probably do a little better if you are willing to take the time to request numerous online quotes.

Make sure they get all of the pinstripe adhesive off. As for the protection paper glue, I had the same thing on my Odyssey. The sun had set by the time I left the dealership, and I did not notice it until the next day. I spent a lot of time getting all the small pieces of that stuff off. Point being, make sure you inspect the car prior to final delivery. And if its not ALL off, ask them to remove it. Don't feel like you're nit-picking, it's their responsibility. Good luck! Let us know how you like the Accord.
  • samic1080samic1080 Member Posts: 10
    Oarsdad,

Thanks for the advice on the glue.

The max doc. fee a dealer can charge in Illinois is 58. They are not charging a prep fee though even though its taken hours upon hours to detail and clean the car. Of course I wouldn't pay for it since (your right) its their responsibility.

Just wondering if anyone has seen or purchased an 08 sedan with either the rear wing or lip spoiler? If so, what was the price? I see the accessory price, I believe it says installation extra. Will probably be buying in early spring when prices hopefully are closer to invoice. Thanks, I enjoy reading everyone's opinion in these forums, there is a wealth of info here.
  • carlsonddscarlsondds Member Posts: 24
I was just looking at the same thing. The deck lid spoiler is $349, but with installation $429. We are days away from pulling the trigger on an EX-L V6, trying to determine what I want to pay and if I want the spoiler added.

The price we have been quoted was 27,695, or 1K off MSRP.
  • carlsonddscarlsondds Member Posts: 24
We are looking here in MN at the EX L V6, they are willing to take 1K off MSRP. So 27,695 +TTL
  • vital411vital411 Member Posts: 67
I have my 08 on order (see previous posts). When asking about the Rear-Wing spoiler i was quoted 599 installed ( i know MSRP is 499 so i guess they are getting 100 to install it). I know the Rear-Wing spoiler needs to also have the gas-shocks on the trunk changed for heavy duty ones as the increased weight of the spoiler requires this.
I'm also interested in the Rear Camera ( i have it now on my 04 FX35 which i'll be turning in when I lease this Accord and I love it!) Haven't gotten a price on this yet.
I figured i'd wait until my car is in then i'd ask for these accessories, thinking of offering to pay 900 for the both.

Anyone else have anything to report on these?
  • neil5neil5 Member Posts: 118
called Melborne dealer he said could not beat this deal. I called back dealer and told him we have deal but he has to add:
    Tinting
    Door Guards
    BU sensors

he did and we did...no other..we believe we did pretty good..about 2000 off sticker...650 over invoice
  • luv_my_jobluv_my_job Member Posts: 33
FYI....I purchased a spoiler in 03 for my wife's Acc sdn at Spoiler Depot, painted and clear coated to match the car, four holes to drill, attached stop light wire and changed decklid assist springs, just like the dealer for less than half of what they wanted.

Don't know if they are still around and competitively prices though.........
  • vietviet Member Posts: 847
4 mudd guards for 4 wheels/ tires are necessary too.

I'm also interested in the Rear Camera ( i have it now on my 04 FX35 which i'll be turning in when I lease this Accord and I love it!)

College Hills Honda has pricing info for both the camera and the rear wing here:

And an install video for the wing here:

  • markludmarklud Member Posts: 41
Thanks for the info on the spoilers, looks like about $80-$100 labor cost to install. Wife won't trust me to install it myself! Just have to decide which one looks nicer. If anyone has pics of their car with either spoiler, would appreciate it... Just wondering, do many people out there like the mystic green color on the sedan? I think it's sharp.

I'm trying to get advice on how to get dealerships to come down in price on a 2008 EX-L Manual.

Any advice? I'm right now, best deal, at $24,475 ($25,900 OTD), I'm looking to get them down to somewhere around $23,800 ($25,300 OTD)...

What is the best strategy to get them to come down in price to magic number that I'll bite?
  • bug4bug4 Member Posts: 370
Hi 7435. I bought my 08 Accord EX-L from Go Honda 104th (one of the old John Elway dealerships) at the intersection of 104th and Federal/Hwy 287). This is the second Accord I have purchased from them and they are great. They probably had 20 new 08s on the lot to look at. I was able to directly compare the various colors and options.
  • bug4bug4 Member Posts: 370
Hi Marklund. I like the mystic green very much . . looks conservative and classy. Plus, you can get the tan leather interior with the green. In my subjective option, it is the most classy color option for the new 08's. However, in my opinion, you don't need the spoiler with the green exterior. My favorite part of the new 08's is the rear-end and I think the car looks good without the spoiler, particularly in the more conservative colors. My new 08 is silver with black leather . . . I was going for a sporty look and so I included a spoiler. I love it! But, if I had chosen the green, I would have left the spoiler off to achieve a classy, touring-sedan look. Plus, in some ways, the spoiler hides the otherwise nicely designed rear-end. That's my $.02!

What is the best strategy to get them to come down in price to magic number that I'll bite?

Patience and just ignoring the dealerships. Once you tell them what kind of price you need to make a deal make sure they have your phone numbers and tell them to call you when they want to sell you a car at that price. Then just "forget about it" and wait for them to call.

When they have more 08s on the lot than they can quickly sell and more on the way OR they get to the end of the month and need a another sale or two to make their "number" they should be giving you a call.

Of course, $600 difference on a $25k purchase is just over 2%, which is not much in the grand scheme of things. Maybe you should pick a lower number and save more money?

You also have to pick a dealer that WILL deal low. Most of the ones around here would not give a good Honda deal if you held their feet to the fire on the last day of the month. Rather than make a little profit on a deal they will make $0 by losing the business. Get a dealer that will deal low when the time is right and wait for the time to be right.

thanks for the info. i did visit go honda but they only offered me 15140 for my 2006 honda accord ex-l 4 and were not as low off msrp as others.
  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
As Dennis indicated, let the dealership know what you are willing to pay for the vehicle. Since you are just 600 away and you are willing to wait or not buy the vehicle, the way I would do it is to give the dealer a written offer with your name, address, phone number, the specific model/features, and your OTD offer. Indicate that you know they may not be interested in selling right now at that price, but your offer remains open for the future if it makes sense for the dealership to sell at some future date.

If you don't get a bite over a reasonable timeframe, then you can either increase your offer....or try at other dealerships further away.

    Hi skzebulon;
Dealership was talking about $1k over invoice. Invoice prices are posted at cars.com. (not sure if Edmunds has them yet.) Last car I tried to buy from them was an '06 Accord and I ended up with a Camry SE. Do you think it is too early in the model run for deals better than this?
Yonkers Honda. Destination included; no taxes.
BTW, I saw a spoiler on the floor model and it cost over $700; much more than others have quoted here... So sometimes you don't know what's real with these guys.
  • carlsonddscarlsondds Member Posts: 24
27,695 on an EX-L V6. Throw in the deck lid spoiler installed and all weather floor mats.

Does this seem reasonable? First time buyer and not sure if I will be laughed out the door with this offer.

How do you know? If they live in a state with no sales tax on cars then this deal is a lot worse than if they live in a state where there is an 7% sales tax rate.

So the story goes like this. I submitted an internet quote request from Edmunds. Roughly 5 or so dealers came back with prices. 3 came back with only a few hundred dollars off MSRP. 2 came back with what looked like Invoice pricing. I end up going to Open Road Honda in Edison on a Saturday. The place was a zoo. No greeter and the salespeople were chatting amongst themselves. I end up talking to this salesperson who takes me for a test drive. Car pretty much sells itself. The quoted price was $27500 but was only good for 1 more day. I ask him to call me on Monday. He calls and i ask him to try again in an hour. He never calls back. I call and leave messages everyday until Friday. I voice my frustration to one of the managers. So the sales guy calls me back and says i'm now out of luck b/c the prices went up. He messed up by not calling me back and now I have to pay more because of it. I'm pissed. So I go back to the other Honda dealer and tell them the original price I was quoted. They already knew which dealer was offering the low prices and offered to match the price. So I go over to VIP honda to put a deposit. After a few minutes of discussion, they honor the price and get the paperwork going. Very impressed and happy. After NJ taxes and paperwork, the OTD is $30,500. Open Road left such a bad taste while VIP was extremely professional.

Well, i will be in the market for a new car next year, but obviously, the accord is one of those cars that i like. in any event, i just wanted to post the spcial that i saw yesterday at BJ's Edison, NJ. They had an LX AT. (outside BJ's) with the price of $19895 which included the dest. fee. In any event, just wanted to make aware to all those who are in the market now, that seemed to be $79. above invoice to me, that was reasonable, since this is a hot car. If someone wants it that might be a good place to start. just to mention that i did not negotiate the price, the car had the mrsp (somewher over $21K) and their "special" hope it helps to someone
  • mondanamondana Member Posts: 9
If you were able to get a good price would you please tell me where and with which sales person you dealt with? I am in the market for an Accord too.
can you tell me how much over the invoice not the MSRP you paid?

    Thanks
