200 over INVOICE?!
100 below INVOICE?!
Are these deals only happening for the SEDAN???
I'm trying to get a Coupe (EX-L), and these dealerships are saying,"These Coupes are in great demand, there is no way we go below MSRP..."
Maybe I just have bad negotiating skills....
2008 V6 EX-L no nav, but door side moldings and BU sensors delivered..TTL/Fees for 30,388 this is cost 500 dollars worth of extras...how much more to push??
My target was $25,300 out the door, which translates to $23,165 + $635 destination + 5% Maryland tax + $193 tag and title.
Lowest bid so far was $25,900 out the door... up to $27,700 out the door. My high target was $25,500 out the door.
Two dealerships wanted me to buy what was on their lot (good) but had manditory "apperance packages" at $595, which include pinstripes (they look bad after 5 years), mudguards and wheel locks... Plus their prices are not that great, roughly $26,800 out the door.
I told the one dealership my price target and he told me I was being way too aggressive and hung up the phone :P
All the dealers I called cried about not making a profit... I said $500 over invoice plus a $750 holdback is a decent profit....
I have yet to see a 2008 Honda Accord on the road in the DC area. I think the dealerships are being too aggressive on price.
It's not really $500 over invoice if they are charging $399 for dealer prep.
Decide if $899 over invoice is good enough. If you are financing through them, buying more stuff not listed above (warranty, credit insurance etc.) and trading in another vehicle, they will be making more money. Maybe a lot more.
Also, I went to go test drive the new 2008 Accord Coupe EX-L 4 Cyl., and while I was there, there had to have been 4 or 5 other people looking to inquire about the same car!
The demand is just too high to get a deal right now. I think I'd have to pay FULL MSRP to get into one RIGHT NOW!
I have time to think about it though. The dealerships have 1 OR 2 on lot and won't get but maybe 10 or so in the next month, and half of them are already HELD WITH DEPOSIT by potential buyer!!!
It's gonna be hard to get a DEAL here in Houston...
Geez, I'm 29, and just now learning about this buying process. I wish they just had set prices for cars, so you don't have to worry about whether you get a bargain or not...
Wait for all the 2007s to be replaced with a full stock of 2008 coupes.
They were charging me a bogus protection package (around 800) they were unwilling to negotiate on which included pin stripes. Frankly I wouldn't want them even if they were free and told them this up front. I agree with the previous blog that stated pin stripes wear out after a few years. This happened to my 98 Prelude. I told them the rubber guards on the door edges they had on messed up the look of the car and that as an "option" I didn't want them for the price they had. They said they add it to all their cars and can't take them off because it'll cost them money and labor. After much negotiation back and forth they finally said they wouldn't charge me. The car is being prepped right now and I'm having them take the pin stripes off. I don't know what they'll do with the edge guards, they can take them off and throw them away for all I care. If the car passes my inspection I'm thinking about closing on the deal. I would have closed today but getting the car prepped and cleaned took more than four hours. I left the dealer after four hours since members of my party were becoming very hungry.
There was a lot of glue on the body from when the car had white protection paper taken off after transportation. I assume they had just received the car maybe a few days earlier and didn't even have time to give it a good cleaning. This car had 23 miles on it. The car I was looking at before this one was very clean on the outside and only had 5 miles on it (I declined that car because someone had keyed the side, noone had noticed it in my party until we examined the paint carefully after the test drive for flaws).
Is it normal that there is a gluely film after the delaer removes the white protection paper? Of course they are supposed to clean it up is this gluely film actually from the protection paper or is my leg being pulled?
It could be the shipping protection. The saleman came out with a towel and "special" (cough cough) cleaner that takes off the gunk from the body. It took a whole LOT of elbow greese just to clean a small corner of the car.
Make sure they get all of the pinstripe adhesive off. As for the protection paper glue, I had the same thing on my Odyssey. The sun had set by the time I left the dealership, and I did not notice it until the next day. I spent a lot of time getting all the small pieces of that stuff off. Point being, make sure you inspect the car prior to final delivery. And if its not ALL off, ask them to remove it. Don't feel like you're nit-picking, it's their responsibility. Good luck! Let us know how you like the Accord.
Thanks for the advice on the glue.
The max doc. fee a dealer can charge in Illinois is 58. They are not charging a prep fee though even though its taken hours upon hours to detail and clean the car. Of course I wouldn't pay for it since (your right) its their responsibility.
The price we have been quoted was 27,695, or 1K off MSRP.
I'm also interested in the Rear Camera ( i have it now on my 04 FX35 which i'll be turning in when I lease this Accord and I love it!) Haven't gotten a price on this yet.
I figured i'd wait until my car is in then i'd ask for these accessories, thinking of offering to pay 900 for the both.
Anyone else have anything to report on these?
Tinting
Door Guards
BU sensors
he did and we did...no other..we believe we did pretty good..about 2000 off sticker...650 over invoice
Don't know if they are still around and competitively prices though.........

Any advice? I'm right now, best deal, at $24,475 ($25,900 OTD), I'm looking to get them down to somewhere around $23,800 ($25,300 OTD)...
What is the best strategy to get them to come down in price to magic number that I'll bite?
Patience and just ignoring the dealerships. Once you tell them what kind of price you need to make a deal make sure they have your phone numbers and tell them to call you when they want to sell you a car at that price. Then just "forget about it" and wait for them to call.
When they have more 08s on the lot than they can quickly sell and more on the way OR they get to the end of the month and need a another sale or two to make their "number" they should be giving you a call.
Of course, $600 difference on a $25k purchase is just over 2%, which is not much in the grand scheme of things. Maybe you should pick a lower number and save more money?
You also have to pick a dealer that WILL deal low. Most of the ones around here would not give a good Honda deal if you held their feet to the fire on the last day of the month. Rather than make a little profit on a deal they will make $0 by losing the business. Get a dealer that will deal low when the time is right and wait for the time to be right.

If you don't get a bite over a reasonable timeframe, then you can either increase your offer....or try at other dealerships further away.
Also, the LE-P what does have that the differnce between that and EX is $2000 ??
Thanks so much for sharing info as more 2008 dealer prices becomes available and we start to buy !
Here's a quick compare chart so you can see the differences.

Dealership was talking about $1k over invoice. Invoice prices are posted at cars.com. (not sure if Edmunds has them yet.) Last car I tried to buy from them was an '06 Accord and I ended up with a Camry SE. Do you think it is too early in the model run for deals better than this?
Yonkers Honda. Destination included; no taxes.
BTW, I saw a spoiler on the floor model and it cost over $700; much more than others have quoted here... So sometimes you don't know what's real with these guys.
Does this seem reasonable? First time buyer and not sure if I will be laughed out the door with this offer.
