Just wanted to say I drove home my new 08 Accord EX-L Sedan this afternoon. This car is too cool. I used to have a 98 Accord, and I can say they realy have improved alot of things. I like the new design. It doesn't look as sterile as the Accords used to. I guess being the owner of a Pilot and now another Accord, you could say I like my Hondas.

I also wanted to share with anyone in the Ohio area, that my wife and I were quite pleased with our buying experience at College Hills Honda in Wooster, Ohio. They made everything easy, gave us a good fair deal, gave us a fair price on our trade in, and were genuinely nice to deal with. I have had other Honda dealerships that have come across very arrogant and actually rude(cough, cough Sunnyside), because they know they have a good product and don't feel they have to waste their time dealing with you. But the guys and gals at College Hills were all very professional and curtious. I would definately reccommend checking them out if you are in the Ohio area.

bought a 2007 EXL Sedan I4 AT with Navi today in Northern NJ for 22498 + 299 doc + tax + dmv ($24685 OTD). Very happy with the price. Had to send out 35 emails or so to different dealers before I was able to find 3 or 4 who would actually deal. Not too many of these with Navi left in my area, seem to be quite a few out there without the Navi.

If you truly believe what you say you are truly uninformed to say the least! Many reputable dealers will show the consumer the true factory invoice when approached properly....that however, is not necessarily the true dealer cost as the quarterly 2% hold back is not reflected in the invoice or other volume incentive rebates available to the dealership depending upon their production..All dealers pay the same price, that is federal law, incase you didn't know. Sales incentives, whether regional or national, determine the actual net, net cost as well as how the product is floor planned, i.e. Honda internal or a third party, say GE Credit Corp. Each floor planner creates their own program depending on their own marketing objectives, they vary widely. Typically the largest volume H dealers have the lowest net, net cost due to their volume however they may or may not offer the lowest net, net cost to the consumer.

We just bought our honda accord in Dallas, Texas, 08 EX-L V6, which MSRPs at 28,695 for 26,650 plust tt&L. Basically $2,000 off MSRP. My first impression was that there would be little negotiating room because the car was such a hot commodity-new model, etc. Has anyone heard of a better deal? I am interested to see what the price floor is. Hopefully someone will reach it!

I think you got a good deal, I just got a 08 coupe today! for 25 even out the door. It's an EX and was exactly what I was looking for, I called around 5 other dealers (VA), and they either had none (coupes) or just a couple that wasn't really what I was looking for. The MSRP and out the door price was a little over 25, but I didn't have much room at all to neg. I was about to walk out asking them for 24.5 but they only had 2 in stock. I am having them take off the pin stripe and will pick up the car Tuesday. I'm sure others can get this car for less, but I really wanted it and was ready to pay the 25. They did throw in free inspections and a few oil changes for life and said the oil change indicator prob. happens around 5-7k each time, so that is better then most cars as well. Any way, hopefully I'm not to much of a sucker for getting this car only a few hundered under MSRP but I do like the car.

I said DC, but I actually got it in Northern Virginia. (I'm not sure if they want me to tell what dealer I used or not, but I got good low bids from dealers at Landmark, Tysons corner, Fairfax, etc.) The big superstores are the ones that are offering the good prices on line--but my local dealer (which is small) was willing to honor the deal the superstore offered via e-mail.

Try and get quotes from various stores by using Edmunds, Cars Direct, Carbytel, etc. BE SURE TO USE TRY DIFFERENT ZIP CODES on the sites--Try to use a Virginia Zip to get bid from Virginia and a Maryland zip code to get quotes from Maryland dealers (and of course a DC zip code).

I think that Honda is really pushing to have this be a huge rollout with huge sales. They are really looking to have huge sells in the first three months (or at least by X-mas) so there will be deals out there if you are willing to take the car they have on the lot.

(I picked it up today--Surprisingly they threw in mudguards, wheel locks, color matched door protectors, wheel well protectors and pinstripping for free.)

My guess is that the deals may be better (closer to invoice) for LX's and LX-P's early one. These are basically family sedans and there is a lot of competition on the low-end right now from left over 2007's.
  • jlewelling1jlewelling1 Member Posts: 65
The dealer I had didn't have any coups. If you wanted a coup, you needed to go with a 2007!

I think you can get much better comparative deals (closer to invoice) on the base models (like my LX) right now that the tricked-out models. Heck, let's fact it--those who are likely to get base models are not going to pay super premium prices for the latest model. While those customers who want the latest model and are willing to pay extra are also looking to get something more than the base.

I think you were lucky to even FIND a 2008 coup!

I was quoted a final price of $24,800 dest. fee included + 159.00 doc fee for a total price of $24,959 *this does not include taxes.
The price includes mud guards, pin striping, and a trunk tray. Plan on making my purchase this week if this is a good deal. Is this a fair quote?
    Thanks

No one should ever lump sales taxes into the price the say they paid. It just makes it confusing for everyone else because tax rates are different everywhere.

They should post the sales price including destination and any add-ons they purchased, say how much the dealer adds on with their own dealer fees and also make it clear whether a trade-in was involved in the deal.

Whether or not they used dealer-provided financing and at what finance rate also makes a difference.

I completely agree. OTD prices are meaningless in a forum like this one.

Anyone bought an 08 Accord Sedan exl w/navi? Wondering about the price being paid.
  • mvbrockmvbrock Member Posts: 5
    bought a 2008 Honda Accord ex-l v6 w/o nav...msrp $28695
.....$25,416 KBB invoice + $635 dest charge= $26,051 add $290 doc fee...supposingly total invoice price $26,341....I got the whole package plus mudguards for $25,900...then I pay sales tax of Mass = 5%......the $295 doc fee includes the title/new plates/inspection sticker/full tank of gas & whatever they say is the charge for! Haven't heard of a better deal yet. This dealership is the largest dealer off Honda's in Mass. Supposingly doing it on massive volume, I was informed they turn the tune of a 1000 vehicled per month, so they're on the volume discount plan.....?

"Is this the drive out price?"

My price EX I4 automatic was $22471 which included the $635 destnation fee. There was no dealer prep. No trade. Doc fees were $55. So $22471 plus tax, tags, license fee and $55 doc fee. Hope that helps clear things up.
  • mcpdjohnmcpdjohn Member Posts: 44
I checked KBB.com and the invoice for your EX-L V6 w/o nav is $26,050, plus destination charge of $635 brings it to $26,685. If you got it for $25,900, that is $785 below invoice. That's an amazing deal, considering most dealers are at least $500-$1000 above invoice, if not closer to MSRP. I paid $500 above invoice for the same model last week, and thought I got a good deal.
  • ebdowneyebdowney Member Posts: 3
I've read many posts and found them helpful for ballpark prices. I just bought an '08 EX-L V6 (no navigation) on 10-12-07. I'm from central Indiana and I negotiated with four different dealers in the state over the internet and finally got two to agree to an OTD price of $28,100. This was after telling them what other dealers had offered me and subtracting a few hundred each time. I couldn't believe how easy it was. To quell any confusion, the bill of sale reads "Vehicle Price" - $26414.86, "Tire Fee" -$1.25, "Documentary Fee" - $99.00, and "Sales Tax" (6%) - $1584.89 for a total of $28,100 OTD. That's what they quoted me on the phone and that's what I paid, after turning down the extended warranties, etc. at the dealership. By the way the dealership was in Kokomo Indiana and I did everything over the internet until I called them and got them to accept my final offer. I didn't even finance through them, though their offer would have been $200 more if I didn't give them the chance to beat my 5% finance rate. It was by far the best car buying experience I could ask for. By the way, they told me that they gave me the car at or below invoice, but I doubt it seriously. I think the invoice on the NADA website would have been $26051 after the $635 destination charge which was $462 under what they quoted me ($26414 + $99). By the way, the car - exactly what we hoped for.
  • ebdowneyebdowney Member Posts: 3
The invoice of $26050 you have listed includes the destination charge.
  • mcpdjohnmcpdjohn Member Posts: 44
Congratulations on your deal, ebdowny. I bought exactly the same model on Oct 11, but paid about $1300 more than you. My price did include the splash guards, wheel locks, alarm upgrade, and window tinting. I don't feel bad though because I know there are a lot of people that paid more than I did, especially here in southern California. I love this car so much, the deal I got versus what other people paid is a non issue. The important thing is that I got my 08 EX-L V6!
  • mcpdjohnmcpdjohn Member Posts: 44
Okay, good catch. So he got it for $150 below invoice. Still a damn good deal (like you got!)
  • jazzjunejazzjune Member Posts: 2
How much should I offer for a 2007 Accord EX? I'm thinking at least 3k below dealer invoice. I live in Los Angeles and the dealer that sells the most Hondas hasn't gotten many 08s, so I'm thinking that they'll be highly motivated to get rid of the 07s before the 08s come in. Is anyone else thinking of buying a 2007 Accord?

"this was after telling them what other dealers had offered me and subtracting a few hundred each time."

(Stands on soap-box) Is this fair negotiation? If everyone on this forum practiced the same tactics, would anyone be able to use internet prices (or any competing dealership price quote) to try to negotiate a better deal with their local dealer? (Gets off soap-box).

I don't care how this guy got his deal and perhaps I have misinterpreted his post. Further, I have little sympathy for car dealerships who tend to screw more than they get screwed. But, this is a good example of why the prices stated on web forums are of limited value. I suspect that some of the deals posted here were achieved using "less traditional" methods.
  • bvdj84bvdj84 Member Posts: 1,724
Wow, here I was worried that I might not be able to afford the 08 EX-L 4cyl, navi. I'll totally be able to do a deal on one next Spring. The EX-l 4cy, Navi is the same price as the EX-L V6, and with deals like that, I'll be able to essentially get one with navi for the same MSRP as the regular EX-L. That is great. I feel that if I am going to go through the hassle and get one, than I get the one I want. I will wait for the best deals!
  • thegraduatethegraduate Member Posts: 9,731
I'd tell them to ditch the doc fee and they'd have a deal. It isn't a terribly high fee (our dealer wanted $300 doc fee on my dad's Civic), but it's just another way to add to the bottom line.
  • ebdowneyebdowney Member Posts: 3
I'm not sure if I should feel badly or not about my online comparison shopping. I truly thought that's how this stuff was supposed to be done and I didn't think that I hurt the consumer when I was doing it. I didn't say to any dealer that I had been offered any price I was asking for. I merely took the lowest offer I had gotten to date, took off a few hundred, and emailed the other dealers and asked them if they could beat that. I had some dealers that said "I will pass" and a few that said they could match or beat. I truly don't understand where the infraction is. As for some of the deals here on this forum being acheived through "less traditional" methods, I'm not certain what you're referring to. I would definitely agree that talking with 11 different dealers online and comparing their best offers is less traditional than going to one dealer and negotiating a price in person while having no other prices to compare it to. Again, if I hurt the efforts of the consumer in getting the best price, I'm truly sorry. This forum has been really helpful to me in the last week. I'm just not sure I did anything to be sorry about.

Not only did you not do anything wrong, but I think you set the standard of conduct for buying a new car at the best price possible. This is a good thing.

The best single bit of advice you allude to is never actually showing up in person at a dealership until you have a killer bottom line price. Play the internet quote game until you feel comfortable knowing you've got a great deal.

And saying you got a quote from another dealer a couple of hundred lower than what you actually got quoted is definately "traditional". people have been doing that for decades before any internet existed. :)

You did a great job and should be an example for all others to follow in getting a good deal.

    Congratulations!

You are absolutely correct about the motivation to sell '07 Accords. Based on what I saw on these boards, I say you've made a great deal if you can get 3K below invoice on a EX.
  • bug4bug4 Member Posts: 370
ebdowney - Perhaps there is nothing at all to question in your negotiation approach. If you got a quote from a dealer, subtracted a couple hundred and then went to another dealer to ask if they could beat the price, there is nothing wrong with that at all. In fact, I think that is a great way to discover the real price floor. I, however, understood that you took your first quote, subtracted a couple hundred, then asked a second dealership to beat the first dealership's artificially deflated quote. The difference is whether or not you falsely represented to a dealership that you had a quote lower than what you actually had. Sorry if I misunderstood your approach :D
  • adowadow Member Posts: 2
Questions about the ethicality of bug4's negotiation tactics are lame.

It's a free market. If the dealer agrees to sell it at a certain price and the customer agrees to buy it, then whose right is it to complain? However they arrive at that price is of no consequence.

The dealer does not have to sell his vehicle if he feels profit margins are too low or if he is going to lose money, and, likewise, the customer does not have to purchase if the price is too high.

Consider how much lying the dealers do everyday to make a buck. Congratulations on your deal, bug4.
  • juxtojuxto Member Posts: 16
The dealer did NOT sell the car at a loss. The market works very well, indeed. IF you want to know what the car was "probably worth" just try selling it. The difference between what you can get for it and what you paid for it is probably close to what the dealer made on the car. I had been shopping for a new one - gave our accord to our boy with the understanding if another transmission is required it is his problem (unless honda will replace it, too). Opted to stay clear of honda after tranny problems and after learning of class action lawsuits against honda for tranny problems and no apparent changes in transmissions.

Just inked a deal on an 08 Accord Sedan LX-P in silver with black interior.

    Invoice 20,720 + 199 doc fee + TTL.

Deal closed 100% over the internet. Went in to first dealer who offered this price and he tried the old "oh that didn't include destination" game. Walked out on principal alone.

Dealer I closed with offered to match the quote I received + the doc fee, had the car in stock and was eager to close.

I received quotes ranging between where I closed Invoice + doc fee to MSRP but the bulk were around 21,500 - 21,700.

Buying a car is fun with the net....hope this helps someone out. NYC area.
  • jaxs1jaxs1 Member Posts: 2,697
I still see row after row of 2007s with a small amount of '08s at most dealers.
Whatever deal you can get on a 2008 now, you can do much better when they have filled the their stock with 2008 Accords.

ck out kbb again ....$26,050 includes the $635 destination charge.....add $295 prep and the total tally is $26,345....I ended up paying the $25,900 price and yes it was a great deal....

Are you kidding? '08 V6 EX-L MSRP = $28,695 (NO NAVI) and $30,695 (W/ NAVI). I know some dealers are asking for $28,695 w/ NAVI.

I was trying to buy an 07 EXL 4cyl in the Bay Area but dealers up here have very few left so they won't deal by that much.

there is plenty of V6s left and I've been offered deals of up to 3500 under invoice on them .

can you tell me which dealer in LA has 07 EX/EXL 4cyl left.

I'm in Dallas, TX, looking for an 2007 Accord EX-L. Ok with either v4 or v6. Asked around a few dealerships for quotes. Best quotes I have so far:

    V6: 22950(incl. destination) + TTL
    V4: 20700(incl. destination) + TTL

    Are these offers - bad/decent/good/excellent?
    Are there better deals out?

    Thanks!
