Did you recently take on (or consider) a loan of 84 months or longer on a car purchase?

could you tell me what dealer you bought it from?
thanks.
I watch everything except live sports off of Tivos and normally skip through the ads, but I still notice that there are a LOT of Accord ads. I know they need to get the word out to the uninformed that the Accord is all new for 2008, but they seem to really be pushing it.
On a related note, I notice Camry and Altima lease deals seem really cheap in their ads. I assume they are feeling the slow sales as "weather vane" buyers go with the newer design Accord? Accord deals got sweeter when the new Camry came out, IIRC.

Solicited bids from 12 dealers via the internet in the tri-state area and they matched the lowest and promised not to give me the business when I came in (walked out of one dealership that tried this).
_______________
My dealer told me Honda has dedicated more as a company in terms of resources and ad budgets to the launch of the 2008 Accord than they have any other car launch EVER. This may explain some of the good deals that some have found on the cars (including me!). They want to get this car out there so that people are seeing it on their TV's, in the magazines and on the road. And quite frankly, it looks even better in real life than it does on the screen! If they want to meet their goal of selling 380,000 of these in the first year, they are going to have to be aggressive. If the plan to build demand works well, you may see the deals go away by mid-year. It has happened before.
Why would they do this? Well, you have to remember that the Accord redesign is a leading edge for the redesign of their other vehicles over the next few years. Honda is going long.
a) my sales tax is 6%
b) invoice is $22,559 (KBB), which includes destination of $595 or $635
c) splash guards ($99) and trunk tray ($135) are included in the OTD; this is fine, since I want both
d) dealer prep/doc/markup ranges from $350-550; the local dealers all mince up the price/destination/dealer fees, so I am negotiating on final OTD price.
$23,939
$23,989 (includes wheel locks as well)
$24,150
Now why do I not simply go for the lowest quotes, you ask? The two lowest quotes are from just over the state border, so it may not be worth the hassle to do the state-to-state paperwork; does anybody have experience buying a new car from out-of-state, and is it worth $200? The $24,150 OTD is in-state (from 2 dealerships).
I am thinking that it maybe fine to take the $24,150 OTD, as it includes the accessories I want as well. If I wait another month or so, I think I can get my revised target of $23,800 OTD, but I have worked over all the area dealerships very well (20+ dealerships), so I do not see them going any lower until the holidays. Plus, if I subtract the retail cost of the 2 accessories, that is $23,916 OTD, or $116 above my revised target. My original target was $23,500 OTD, but we bumped it to $23,800 OTD, working with people from this forum.
Too bad there are no sweet financing offers on the 2008 Accord yet. A local dealer advertised 2.9% on all 2008 Accords, but only if you pay at or near MSRP. Looks like 5-6.5% APR right now; has anyone seen better? I am glad I waited for the 2008 Accord, as its ride is significantly better than the previous generation (IMHO).
Thoughts? Thanks!
What city is the dealer in? S. Cali? How much did you pay for it, w/ or w/o Navi? If you do not want to state it here please send me a quick note at VIETSI2002@yahoo.com. I am also aiming for the V6 EX-L w/ Navi. Thanks a lot. Buying it via internet sale is cheaper and less hassle.
Do you mind telling me $500 over invoice is how much? or what's your OTD price? Thanks for info.
California sales tax (7.75%) = 2,130.18
vehicle price including $635 destination fee= 27,083.13
alarm, tinting, and fees= the difference
This was for a EX-L V6 without nav, with wheel locks, splash guards, alarm, and tinting added.
Thanks to all on this forum for your help and amazingly helpful comments.
What area of the country are you in? I am considering doing th same thing in the midwest (Ohio - Kentucky - Indiana) and have done shopped this way in the past but my more recent purchases justed eneded up being in my home state and I did not have to confront any problems. Curious as to whether the EX Accord you are looking at also includes floor mats? (I saw a post on the Civc site where someone was having to pay extra for the mats).
About the floormats, I was planning on purchasing the
All-Season Floor Mats, $139 MSRP, installation costs not included
Let me know what you are looking for and I can try to get you a price quote - or you can just go through their web site for an internet quote.
As to floor mats, nearly every Honda now comes with them standard in any trim level. I know they should come with every Accord. They are not included with the Civic DX, however.
Accord interior features list
The all season (rubber) mats are $102 plus shipping online from H&A, but shop around for the best price.

a 2008 i would be happy w 1/3 to 1/2 over inv
a 2008 i would be happy w 1/3 to 1/2 over inv
1/3 to 1/2 of what?
Dealer in Queens: Hillside or Paragon?
Chicago land
MSRP $28,945
Trade in $25000(2004 CLK500 W/36000Miles on it)
Dealer discount 18945
27000+TTL (7.75% TAX for $2000.00)
I think that’s a great deal. Caz Mini dealer offers me 21000 for my CLK LOL
A dealer in the upstate New York area is advertising 2008 Accord LX sedan models- with automatic transmission, splash guards, all season floor mats, and a trunk mat, for the sale price of $ 20,390.00, as compared to its msrp of $ 20,795 not including the $ 400.00 worth of accessories listed above.
Good deal or no ? I was thinking yes- as the LX has the least amount of mark up compared to other Accord models- see the link below

What would it cost you to buy that for from a discount website (assuming you wanted them at all for any price)?
If there isn't another car anywhere else you might prefer that you could buy for the same price or less, then it is an OK deal.
I was recently quoted 19,299 for a 2007 Accord SE + 464 (tint, splash guards, wheel locks) + 756.35 license plates and doc fees + 1595 tax in Phoenix, AZ. Total OTD $22,044. How does that sound?
Any assitance you can offer is greatly appreciated.
I ended up not locating a Passat like I wanted (2007 2.0t, Package 2, manual), so I started to sniff around for Accords. The guy called me back and I said "I'm interested, but I need to call around and see what other dealerships want for this car" and he told me "oh no dealership is going to come off MSRP for this car." (I knew that was a lie, since he wanted to sell me the one I drove at $500 off MSRP)... I told him to give me their price, for an EX-L Manual, which he told me was $26,910 + tags + title + advertising fee + destination, knowing full well the MSRP was $25,060 for that car. I said "oh ok"... The guy bugged me for a week, and I told him "I'm just not ready to buy, I'm too busy to buy" and he offered to come to my house to do the deal. I flat out refused to do the deal that way. At that point I was calling other dealerships, and many wanted to do the deal over the internet. I countered back each offer with my offer of $25,300 OTD (basically $400 over invoice + $635 destination + 5% tax + MD tag and title). Many dealers balked at this offer, but one dealership that had a EX-L Manual in Polished Metal Metalic in stock came in at $25,461 OTD (basically $210 over invoce + $289 dealer processing fee + $635 destination + the dealer cost of the add ons they put in + MD 5% tax and tags and title) I took the plunge and bought the car, despite being roughly $160 apart in price, because my 2004 Ram had the ABS system go crazy and I needed to rent a car to get around otherwise.
The guy at that Anne Arundel County dealership has called me twice since I bought my car 11 days ago. I guess he did not believe me when I told him I got the car for $3,000 less than what his dealership wanted for the car.
Long and short of it is, on 2008 Accord sedans, call around, because you can make a much deal better than MSRP right now.
PS... This deal I made had no trade in, and was financed by a local bank's loan officer (not the dealership's loan office)
The $289 dealer processing fee is high, but $489 over invoice for a 2008 is still good depending on the add-on's extra cost.
A little on the high side however what is important is that you like the car.
It is I4 (as in Inline 4) or V6, no such thing as an Accord V4 engine.
Dennis
Talking about car dealerships, all they care is money. Whoever pays them better they will swallow their honesty and sell cars to them. They dont care if you are black or white, Asian or Caucasian, etc. All they care is your deep pocket and your willingness to sign contracts which are favorable to them.
I am looking for an Accord Sedan '08 V6 EX-L w/ NAVI too. But I do not need to buy it right now because I am currently having 3 Accord V6 EX and 1 I4 at home. I wait for a few more months until dealers beg me to sell me the V6 EX-L I want.
Good luck to you. Be patient. Talk with other dealers. Buy it thru Internet Sale Dept. Remember, Honda plans to sell almost HALF A MILLION Accord '08 in the US. You will have plenty of discount ahead.
