Anyway its good many saved some money using those quotes.
Play by play...I called the dealership at 11:30 am got the quote by phone for 24,500 and the salesman stated they had all three colors I wanted in stock (Silver, Graphite Pearl, Black). I offered to come right in and seal the deal with him as well as fax a credit application in so they can have everything ready when I got there. He said that had to wait until I got in because of how their dealership worked and the volumes of cars they sell each day. He then said he did not have an appointment open till 3:30pm, so I said okay. At this point I figured he was setting me up for a switch. I got to the dealer a little early and was able to walk the lot and see the cars and verify they were actually in stock. They were there so I was very happy. The salesman finally lost the sale he was working on when I walked in and he then grabbed keys for the Black and the Graphite cars. We went out to take a look at them. I did not realize the Black did not come with Black leather and I did not like the Gray interior of the Graphite Pearl so that left me wanting the Silver. He then wandered off and came back to tell me the silver one is a demo and has 4k miles on it. He then said the one that was brand new must have sold during the day since it was so busy. Of course I asked what type of discount they would get me and he replied it would be the same price I was quoted for the others. I told him absolutely not! I told him I would not mind if they did a dealer trade and it had under 200 miles on it. He then said I would have to put down 500 to secure the locate that would be refundable if it were damaged when it arrived. I said okay and off we went to an office. I told him that before i hand over $500 we needed to settle the question of financing and that while I waited earlier i decided it would be of interest to look at a lease. He shrugged and glared at me. I made sure he had all the details he needed to get the right numbers on the lease (I would be going to another state the only pays tax on the actual payment and doesn't roll it in). He left and then came back telling me what a wonderful deal he got me on a lease. He wanted $449 a month which was $107 dollars higher than the calculator on the honda site reported. I told him that was way to high and he needed to disclose his figures to me. He acted confused and stupid and said oops, we figured in IL tax and rolled it in but it would not make much of a difference in the monthly payment. He also said the raised the money factor so i would not have to pay a security deposit. I told him to refigure the numbers. He left and came back with $379 a month which is still a bit high and he could not explain the money factor to me and would not tell me the payment if I offered to pay the security deposit. He proceeded to say that he did a dealer locate in all of IL and no one had the color I wanted but they may in Indiana. I explained to him that his number were way off and I needed to have the numbers he was using disclosed to me. He then left and brought back a screenshot of the lease screen and told me to find him my calculations on the honda website. I quickly showed him and he was not expecting me to be able to by the look on his face. He then brought in their leasing agent and he pretty much took up space and added nothing to help me understand the deal better other than telling me they are required to add a Dealer Assinment Fee of $595 into the lease number plus a $15 flat tax for Cook County. I told him that no where on the honda site did it mention this fee. He then surfed around and said that must be what they mean by a documentation fee that was listed in the fine print. They were already charging a $55 document fee so that was a lame excuse. He also tried to sell me the silver demo at no discount and said it made no difference to the lease (Whatever!). I was not feeling comfortable with the results and needed some time to think so I asked if I could get the same deal on Monday and they wrote it up for me and agreed (I fully expect them to back out if I say I want it or say they can't locate it). That is where I left it with them. For those people who like the had numbers here is what I have.
Negotiated Price: $24,500
Document Fee: $55.??
Assignment Fee: $595
Residual: 50%
Monthly: 379.??
36 Month/15k a year
After I left I called a place in Barrington that had also given me a quote and had treated me nicely while I have been looking. They had the Silver car I wanted, but they wanted 25,721. She tried to work some lease numbers and came to $395.00 a month OTD including my WI tax.
I would say that if you have outside financing ready this may be a good deal for you. For my own financial reasons (one more payment on my current lease) I think I may take a pass on this one.
Good luck to all!

The dealers were probably in the backroom of the dealership laughing their a**es off at your offer of $17053 (+515 dest. fee).
Why, do you ask? Here is the real dealer wholesale cost:
21,090.00 List Price
19,134.00 Dealer Invoice
- 617.25
18,516.75 Sub-Total
- 750.00
17,766.75 Net Dealer Wholesale Cost
This gives the dealer a "whopping" $484.00 profit! When you bought your refrigerator, they probably made more profit than that!!
Did you get screwed? Absolutely not, you got a very fair deal. You should bring the salesman a gift certificate for a lunch at McDonalds. He/she certainly cannot afford to eat lunch on the commission that he made selling you your car!

You may want to offer the dealer 3% or 4% profit, or they may have to resort to charging you "dealer prep" or some other false charge, just so they can stay in business.

2005 Honda Accord LX with MT, fender&door gaurds, splash gaurds and the imfamous window itching.
$17,128
$1,028 (NJ 6% tax)
$7.50 tire tax (state garbage- all dealers here charge it)
$242 DMV( again state garbage all dealers charge it)
$167 Doc Fees (this seems high)
$18,573 otd
Again, I think it is ok and I'm super happy with the car. I am curious what I could have done without the bs extras. Thoughts? Also, I got it last month. I have been crazy and unable to post since I got it.
Sounds like you got a great deal last month! The car also comes with a lot of extras, what's MT? Do you have to ask for that?
I'm also in NJ. Do you mind letting me know the dealer you dealt with? I'm not good at negotiation, was there a lot of haggle?
Did you pay cash or finance through the dealer?
Thanks a lot!
I am getting the same car from another dealer for 17,800 without any gimmicks. Can't wait to pick it up on monday.
There are atleast 4 other dealers who are willing to give LX Auto for within 17,900
The LX Accord is standard with just about everything you really need without plastic ugly pieces to pack the price.
Enjoy your new Accord--it's a great car.........Richard
What price should I expect to pay before tax, destination, and all other fees?
Thank you,
Rick
The car you want might be as low as $21K + tax and license (Accord EX-L sedan A/T). Don't forget that the car will be new to you, but a FULL model year old in a week or two.
Make sure the added "document fee" is no more than $50 because it's pure profit for the dealer and isn't remitted to government entities as are tax and license fees. If the doc fee is higher, negotiate it away in your deal.
Here in CA, the doc fee is limited by law to $45 plus a few dollars for a "tire fee"--another government ad-on that can't be negotiated......................Richard
I didn't want it to seem like I was the "victim", I just wanted to see if I got the best possible deal considering they are trying to get rid of their 2005 inventory. Sorry if I offended.

I'm looking at a 2005 Accord LX with AT/cloth seats and and invoice
of 20,000. What would be a reasonble offer considering it's clearance
for the 2005 models?
Thanks
Steve
If you are looking for Automatic Transmission i purchased one last week for $18,250 including destination, taxes, title etc.
Thanks

Honda of Lisle, Chicagoland. Awesome service. Very very happy. The price was internet negotiated and there were no catches. Paid by check and drove out with a new car within 1 1/2 hours.
Had very very very very bad experience with both Grand Honda and Schaumburg Honda. Bunch of cheats. I don't know why they even try to cheat internet savvy customers. Hopeless thing to do.
When I bought my car, the current Accord model had been available for just one year and had a full 4 years left in its cycle. Even though there will be greater visible change in the '06 Accord, the car is now 60% into its model life span. The '06 Accord now faces formidable competition from Hyundai as well as the Nissan Altima which upgraded its previously ratty interior, the Mazda 6, and the upcoming '07 Camry will be an all-new car early in 2006.
While I have no proof that the '06 Accord will be discounted, it's hard to believe that discounts won't be BETTER than they were when I bought my car almost 2 years ago. The dealer who said you'd have to pay sticker price for the '06 Accord is a phony-baloney, and I don't think you should believe a word of it.
Do your homework on this site, see what others are paying for their new '06s, and negotiate from an educated position. You'll get your new, '06 Accord and you'll buy it at a discount...............Richard
Just a question for all of you knowledgeable Accord owners out there as I have never purchased a Honda before:
I have researched on Edmunds and elsewhere.
I pit dealer against dealer.
On a new, 2005 LX sedan (4 cylinder) I am getting a price of $18,300.
With taxes and all applicable fees this will come to $19,661 out the door.
Is this a good price?
I look forward to your input.
with cloth interior and automatic transmission/ 4 cyl. The MSRP is listed
as 20,100. They added mud flaps and marked it up to 20,250 MSRP.
They are asking 19,000 for it. Auto tax here is $300. I think that 19,000
is too high. I am thinking about 18,000.
Does that make a difference in the price?
pretty close to what a 2006 LX might cost. I would expect a larger
discount than that. I may wait on the 2006.
Yes.... It is 18257.70 OTD in NJ with NJ tax and DMV etc... This is the deal i got..it's true. It is Automatic Transimission, LX 4DR cloth interior..Got spalsh guards, Wheel locks and trunk tray toooo... I am not sure wheather these three accessories are offered by other deals or not. The car is brand new and has 7 miles on it. No trade.... I got my own finance through the credit union for 4.2%
Thanks
-Raaga
I am confused by what you are saying though.
Clicking on the various options to get the TMV price on Edmunds it shows that people in my area are paying $19,028 before taxes.
I have a price of $18,300 before taxes. With taxes at 6%, registration fee and one or two more little smacks in the face it comes to approximately $19,661 out the door.
So if I am getting a base price before taxes of $18,300 it seems reasonable if everyone else in my area is paying 700+ bucks more than that.
Am I totally off on this and about to get ripped off?
Hmmm....
So I am paying 500 bucks more than you are at this point.
I don't know if I can haggle this guy down any more than I have.
Where in CT u are located... I paid $16,863.84 base price incl destination before taxes and final price is $18,257.70 incl TTL . Seems it is around $1400 difference between the price i paid and you are going to pay. If central jersey is near by...why don't you drive and save those....
Thanks
-Raaga
Fairfield county...unfortunately (given that it is one of the most expensive places to live in the USA).
Your price seems to be too good to be true given the research I have done.
I honestly thought I was getting a very good price.
On edmunds it shows that what I am purchasing goes for 19,028 in my area.
I figured 18,300 was a steal!
If you could, then it wouldn't be the lowest price!!

I appreciate the dose of reality.
You are absolutely correct and I will stop obsessing.
Everyone I ask out here has told me that $18,300 is a great price and the other dealer I was working with could not beat it so...(actually the three other dealers could not beat it).
Thanks again.
Thanks to all of you for your thoughtful and kind input and responses.
You should try to get quotes from all dealers. Take the best quote and haggle with all other dealers and negotiate. If the best you did is 18,300 in your area, then that is the best price. It all depends on your haggling experience and also depends on how far the dealer can go.
Good luck.
