What overstock site are you referring to? Did you get the Elantra Blue with the Comfort Package (A/C, stereo, cruise) for $11,400???

I am planning to test drive the Elantra. Any information on the prices paid in Dallas Area. Looking for some info regarding Elantra before making up my mind.
Does it come with 5 speed AT. If not how much different 4 speed AT makes comparing to 5 speed AT.
Does SE handles better than GLS and where does it stand when compared to Civic handling and spiritedness.
So far test drove Mazda 3 and Civic LX/LX-S. I liked Civic better in terms of driving, comfort and space for family. Not able to get the Civic LX to the price i wanted. Looking at other alternatives.
How does it compare with civic in terms of maintance i.e., timing belt vs chain.

I just bought a 2010 Elantra GLS two weeks ago and I can easily say this is one the best cars I ever bought. I love the mpg, the handling and the smooth ride.

Do yourself a favor and go test drive a Hyundai GLS and SE. Personally, I went with the GLS because the SE has a stiffer ride. They have an amazing amount of interior space and trunk space. So much in fact the EPA classifies them as mid-size sedans. Looking at them you may think its cramped, but it is far, far, far from it.

When you throw in all the safety features, the positive reviews and the remarkable Hyundai warranty it really makes it an easy decision.

    Good luck!

Of course, your best bet is to take the Elantra for a drive. To try to answer some of your questions...

    * 4AT. The Elantra's powertrain is a fairly old design, which is good in that it has proven reliable, but is behind most competitors. An all-new car with a much improved powertrain including a 6AT is due for the 2011 Elantra.
    * I think the SE does handle a little better than the GLS due to bigger rubber, but you should drive both and see what you think. More importantly IMO, the SE has electronic stability control standard and the GLS doesn't have it (should be remedied for 2011).
    * I think you'll find the Elantra has a roomier back seat than the Mazda3 and Civic.
    * Elantra has a timing belt. :( But I expect that will change with the new engine(s) for 2011, as Hyundai has been going with timing chains the past several years. The 2010 Elantra's engine design dates from the mid-'90s - iron block and all.

Bought a 2010 Elantra SE in the Washington DC metro area at the end of September. Paid $13,100 for car (this was $5000 below invoice and included $2500 in rebates), plus $100 processing fee, tax, tags, and licensing.

Is your Elantra automatic or manual?
  • igozoomzoomigozoomzoom Member Posts: 801
All Elantra GLS and SE models are only available with Automatic transmission! The Elantra "Blue" is the only one that has a manual transmission and it doesn't offer an automatic.

I totalled my 2005 Elantra 5sp hatch on Tuesday. It was a real nice buck before I hit him. Very few problems in the first 127k miles on that car.

Local dealer that I have purchased two Hyundias through dealer swapped a 2010 Elantra Blue with option pack #2 (A/C, Cruise). It is set up like the last one except for not being a hatchback.

His offer is 16,151 (taxable amount) - 1500 rebate - 1000 financing rebate for a price of $13651 + $200 Title/tags + tax. The last car I bought there was a 2009 Sonata for $800 under invoice, the 2005 Elantra that I wrecked was bought at invoice so I am thinking he is high by $300-500.

How much room is there under invoice for the Elantra Blues?

First of all, sorry about the accident BUT glad you weren't seriously injured!

I checked out the pricing on several sites including Edmunds TMV and it looks like you should be able to haggle down the price another $400 or so. TrueCar had the lowest price listed as $13,223 using my zip code (Georgia) but when I used a zip code for Woodland Hills, CA (LA) it was only $12,919. Edmunds TMV price (using my Georgia zip) was $14,128 which only included the $1500 rebate. With the $1000 financing rebate, that would be $13,128, which is $523 less than the price your dealer has quoted.

BTW, the special APR financing (3.9% for 60 months or 4.9% for 72 months) can be combined with the two rebates. Hopefully that's already part of the plan from your dealer...

From your posting, I infer that the accident was your fault (correct me if I'm wrong). Either way, have you been offered a fair settlement amount for totaling the 2005 Elantra? In most states, you can add the sales tax expense of the replacement car to the amount the insurance company pays you for the value of the car you totaled. Just FYI.

The Elantra Blue is a helluva steal, especially with current incentives. I'm sure you'll miss the versatility of your 5-door (I have a Mazda3 5-door and don't know if I could ever go back to a conventional sedan with a trunk), but the great deal will certainly help. Did you consider the Elantra Touring 5-door? A 2011 Touring GLS model is running around $14,100 at the moment according to TrueCar.

The accident was a 100-150 pound buck that I met at about 55 mph. I am in western NY and the deer population is nuts. After 36 years of driving here my luck finally ran out.

I hadn't considered the touring as this is just a commuter. I buy a new one and run it until the wheels fall off. Then I dump it and get another. I will check the touring out though. A manual tranny is important to me for driving in snow.

The financing rebate was part of the deal. I only found one other rebate so I was at $2500 in total incentives.

One interesting thing that I found was the cars.overstock.com pricing. By using the zip codes I zeroed in on that dealership at just under $13,000. I am guessing that after buying two cars there they think that they have a loyal customer.

I didn't know about the sales tax thing. I will check on that with the insurance company. I expect the call tomorrow or Monday telling me that it is a total. I took out the hood and the radiator and AC condensor were pushed into the block with lot of broken plastic.

I'm thinking that I am going to call them and tell them $13,000 after rebate + tax and title. They did a dealer swap based on me calling and expressing interest.

You may want to look closely at your overstock.com price. I bought an Elantra SE based on the overstock.com price in late September and the overstock.com price did not include the $1000 financing rebate (the overstock.com price is supposed to be guarananteed, so they can't include the financing incentive in it since they don't yet know if you will qualify for the financing). Since I qualified for the financing, the price I ended up paying was actually $1000 less than the overstock.com price.

The lowest I've seen In So. Cal for the "Blue" is $10,000. Log into the "Orange County Register" and view car deal section that shows many different dealers and their weekly sale ads. I'm from Central California and will never buy a new car from this area again unless a local dealer is willing to match a "real sale price". We bought a fully loaded Kia Sorento SX for $1600 under invoice, $4100 under invoice with rebates this past September. Local dealers and even some in So. Cal couldn't touch that price!
The reason I'm on this forum is because I'll be buying a new Elantra this winter as a commuter car for me. We bought an 07 Elantra for our daughter (new) and that car is well built. We haven't had any problems, high safety ratings and it gets 33 mpg! Nice.

    I am in Northern CA.
Price I paid for 2010 Elantra manual (blue) with comfort package 2
    15300 -1500 -1000 -400(college) = $12,400
    Plus tax, dmv, doc ...=14,1xx.

I showed dealers truecar.com quote and gave me $12,790 initially.

Hello, My daughter has a beautiful dark red Ellantra with cloth seat
covers and recently got a bad ink stain on the drivers seat. She has
been talking about seat covers and I was hoping you would share the
name of the company and any contact info where you had them custom
made. Her birthday is coming up and I thought it would make a great
    gift.
Thanks so much for your reply,

Many years ago my dad had the driver's seat bottom cover on one of our cars replaced because it had damage. He went to a local upholstery shop, and they custom-made a vinyl (that's what the original was) cover that looked just like the original, except the original was two-tone and my dad decided not to go to that expense. And they installed it. I am sure you could get the same thing done today from a custom upholstery shop in your town. Not sure how much it would cost, might depend on what quality of material is used and how close a match you want to the original.

The low-cost option would be to buy a slip-on cover from an auto parts shop or discount store, and just use the bottom part to cover the damage. Wouldn't look as good as a custom job, but would cost a LOT less. You might be able to find a slipcover that matches the color of the Elantra's seat. If you go the slipcover route, be sure it does not cover the side airbag on the outside edge of the seat back.

OTD price from North NJ dealer for Elantra 2011 Limited with Premium Package (fully loaded, wheel locks and floor mats) includes all taxes and fees $23,725.00.

I'm considering 2010 Chevrolet Cruz and new 2012 Ford Focus. I think Hyundai dealer was oohm  c'mon this is compact car. Please let me know your prices and experience with new 2011 Elantra.
  • bigdogbitubigdogbitu Member Posts: 39
$23,784 out the door for the same car with an 8.75% sales tax rate in California. Took three weeks to find one with navigation in a decent color due to limited inventory!
  • drew11mdrew11m Guest Posts: 85
Best price for me in Missouri.

2011 Elantra Limited in Indigo Pearl Blue, Limited trim

    MSRP: 20,800
    Final Price:19,500

+8% MO state and local sales tax, tags, and admin fee. Final OTD including all that will be 21,250 or so.

I got a pretty good discount through my USAA membership, made the deal that much easier. I went to 2 dealers, one offered me 19900 but then would never give me a final number, and was throwing the entire pressure sales book tactics at me.

So we went with smaller, nicer and easier to deal with dealer. First price was 19,900, lowered to 19,500, which is way under TMV and truecar price.

I might have been able to get a few hundred more off with the bigger dealer, but they annoyed me greatly. Here's an idea guys, when I tell you I am coming back and want your final, no BS, no more haggling number, and you still wont give me a figure, then I am out of there. It was interesting comparing everything they were doing to the Edmund's Confessions of a New Car Salesman story.
  • bigdogbitubigdogbitu Member Posts: 39
$21,500 plus tax, license etc.... for Limited with navi, carpets, cable and wheel locks in California. Cars hard to find with navi....MSRP was $22,880!
  • drew11mdrew11m Guest Posts: 85
I think you and I got pretty much the same final price, before you added the nav package for the 2K. I'm feeling pretty darn good about the price, especially this early in the model's run.

What color did you get? All the dealers in MIssouri have are the White, Pearl Blue, Black, Bronze, and Silver. No reds or dark grays yet. Supposedly the factory is ramping up production and no one has seen those colors yet. Curious if that is just here
  • bigdogbitubigdogbitu Member Posts: 39
You are right on about the price and colors! Other dealers wanted $22,400+ for the same car without any inventory! Costco auto program was no help either! My first choice was white with beige interior but we ended up with Desert Bronze with the beige interior. Glad we did!
  • drew11mdrew11m Guest Posts: 85
I really liked that Desert Bronze, if they hadn't had the one Indigo Blue with the gray interior in the area, I would have gone with the Desert Bronze.

From looking at a couple of other dealerships in the STL area, most of them have received only small amounts of cars so far, and inventory now is down to a few of the black, a bunch of white, and a few silver.

Signing tomorrow and picking up, I'm pretty excited. Congrats on your new Elantra!!
  • bigdogbitubigdogbitu Member Posts: 39
Good luck with your new car too!

Other than the dealer not turning on the mode switch in the fuse panel, I have observed no issues with the car. Got 40 mpg on my first tank of gas (~85% highway miles).
  • hojomanhojoman Member Posts: 1
What California dealership did you get this great deal from?

I live in the Los Angeles area.
  • bigdogbitubigdogbitu Member Posts: 39
Sacramento Hyundai! Go to their website and check their inventory. I think they have several 2011 Elantras.
  • marlenelinmarlenelin Member Posts: 87
I'm totally confused about the 2011 Elantra. I had read that the redesigned Elantra would be the model year 2012 and appear in late 2011. I am now told that the redesign took place with the 2011 version. Can someone clarify this for me. I currently have a 2008 Elantra se sedan and a 2009 Touring and was thinking of trading the Touring for the 2012 redesigned sedan when it comes out. Thanks Marlene
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Yes, there was some confusion in the press about that for awhile, but the 2011 Elantra sedan is definitely a re-design. The 2011 Elantra Touring is carry-over, however.
  • drew11mdrew11m Guest Posts: 85
The 2011 elantra which I am sitting in at the moment looks very similar to the new sonata. Not sure what the next version of the touring will be looking like for the 2012 model year. The 2010 regular elantras are available pretty discounted

For the record really enjoying my elantra. Really does get 40mpg on the highway, so far around 33 in mixed driving "> <img src="

    Hi everyone,

I am a Chicago resident looking to buy a new 2010 Hyundai Elantra Automatic GLS. I used the truecars.com and cars.overstock.com with a best local price at 14,8xx. I was wondering whether you could negotiate the price lower than the local price by at least a few thousand(2-4k). Tax is going to be a killer, it's like 8.5% in Chicago. Since, it is 2011 I have called up some dealers that still have at least 9-15 elantra in their lot and that they want to get rid of it asap.

What strategies do you recommend on negotiating a OTD of 10k-11k that includes the tax, title fee, etc... Should I ask every dealer their best OTD price or give the OTD price I want?
  • drew11mdrew11m Guest Posts: 85
Were you planning on doing a trade-in?

I am seeing 14K or so for GLS 2010's here in St Louis, so around that price range is a good starting point for negotiating I would think in Chicago. They are currently offering 1500 cash back on (not sure whether they are already factoring that in to that MSRP)

But for them to cover tax and tax for 11K total would mean a drop of over 4K for them off the base price. I'd be hard pressed to believe they are that desperate to move the 2010's yet.

But it can't hurt asking several dealers for their best OTD price via email. Dont get pulled into the dealership to get a price quote as they will more than likely pressure you for a few hours before giving you a price. And whatever price you give them to start with, they will come back with a way higher price.

Contact every Hyundai dealer within 50 miles via Edmunds , tell them all you want a GLS and are soliciting bids from all the dealers, ask them to give you their best OTD price, and if they wont give it to you via email, then throw them away.

You may also want to look at any demo or loaner 2010 Elantra GLS they may have. You could get one for much cheaper than MSRP if it has several hundred or a few thousand miles on it.

Oh, if they ask upfront how you are paying (and you intend to pay cash) just say you havent looked at that yet. I told them upfront i was paying cash, which probably hurt me from getting a slightly better deal since they get such a good profit margin on doing the dealership financing.

    Good luck!
  • igozoomzoomigozoomzoom Member Posts: 801
The best I price I can find for Chicago is $14,781 via TrueCar.com. I checked numerous other sources and found nothing lower. That includes the $1500 Customer Cash rebate.

The dealer's actual cost on a 2010 GLS is about $15,274 factoring in holdback, the $1500 incentive and regional ad fees. So selling at around $14,800 already represents a loss of almost $500. As weeks go by, the dealers will grow more and more motivated to get rid of the 2010 leftovers and will take increasingly greater losses on them. But waiting it out is a gamble because they'll become harder to find and you could miss out entirely....

One option to get the price down, if you can drive a manual transmission and you're willing to do so, is the 2010 Elantra Blue with Comfort Package. It's simply a GLS with 5-speed manual instead of the 4-speed automatic. It can be bought for $13,600.

In addition to the $1500 Customer Cash Back, there is one other incentive that may help you save! It's a special low APR financing deal but it also includes $1000 Bonus Cash AND it can be combined with the $1500 rebate, so there is another $1000 to work with! I'm not sure whether you're paying cash, already have financing secured thru another lender or whatever, but you may want to consider this! Even if you were planning to pay cash, perhaps you could put 50% down and finance the balance at 3.9% APR for 60 months, then pay off the loan in a a few months. If that's your intention, you need to read all the fine print and determine if there is a mandatory period that you must keep the loan without having to pay back the $1000 Bonus Cash and without an early payoff penalty. Maybe you can find a way to take advantage of this!

Good luck and I hope you get a great deal!

We just bought an 2010 hyundai elantra GLS for our daughter it is a automatic. We traded her 1998 Saturn with 120000 miles on it and major problems. Out the door price was $12,850. I think this was a good deal? We did finance $5000 of it through hyundai with a 3.9% interest rate. Did we get a good deal?
  • drew11mdrew11m Guest Posts: 85
how much did you get for the trade? I can't imagine you would get a lot for the Saturn at that mileage.

Including taxes tags etc, sounds pretty good. considering most starting prices right now are around 14,800 or so for the same car .

What was the starting sales price? Did you guys get any kind of rebate?
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Does that $14,8xx price include taxes and fees? If not, you could do better by coming to the Twin Cities. In today's paper I saw an ad for the 2010 GLS automatic for $13.9k before taxes and fees. And that is before any negotiating. That might be worth a flight to Minneapolis (cheap flights available via Midway) and the 6 hours drive back. Or it could be used as leverage with your local dealer.

I don't think 10k-11k OTD (or even before taxes and fees) is realistic on a new 2010 Elantra GLS automatic. But I think ~14k before taxes and fees is very doable.
  • aksebnaksebn Member Posts: 15
the msrp was a little ove 18000 they had 25% off of msrp sale (which included a 1500 hyundai rebate and 1000 for financing with them.) they said they gave us $1400 for the saturn. when we first started negotiating they offered $425 for it. i told them we wanted to pay 12,5000 out the door after much back and forth we settled on 12,850. They said it was the last day of the month (year) and they needed to meet some quota. we finished the deal around 9 o clock at night.
  • drew11mdrew11m Guest Posts: 85
12850 OTD including taxes and tags seems pretty darn good! Congrats on your purchase!
  • zipxavierzipxavier Member Posts: 1
I'm in the market for one of these and I was wondering if 11,000 before taxes but after all fees is a good price for one.
  • califasramsfancalifasramsfan Member Posts: 31
Dealerships are not offering any rebates or even listing sale prices on the new 2011 Elantra. Is this due to limited stock or is it that they are testing the public's response to this new release? When will Hyundai begin offering rebates or discounts on the Elantra?
  • drew11mdrew11m Guest Posts: 85
since its a brand new body style and it was just released end of November/early december, you probably wont see a rebate or incentive for several months at least, aside from a financing/lease type incentive.

My dealership sold out of their initial Elantra allotment, and several others are down to only a few each (in St Louis) so anecdotally I would say that they are selling very well and they are pricing to take advantage of the desire to be one of the first to have them.

Of course there are deals to be had. Mine was a limited with list of 20,800 and i got it for 19,500 (incl destination) before tax, tag, etc. I have talked to a few other dealers and they are working in that price range as well for the Limited without nav (incl destination)

    Not sure about the GLS
  • marlenelinmarlenelin Member Posts: 87
Just got a price of $16,500 inclusive except for tax and tags from a NJ dealer for a 2011 Elantra automatic with the preferred package. I think that is as good a price as I'm going to get. Now I need to find out what I will get for my 2009 Touring.
  • maigremaigre Member Posts: 16
I test drove a 2011 Elantra and found the road noise to be louder than most cars. I kept wanting to close the window to dampen the sound, but it was already closed. I don't drive a Lexus or anything like that, so it's not like I'm used to silent cars.

Does anyone here have a similar impression?
  • drew11mdrew11m Guest Posts: 85
for me the road noise is very noticeable when i am on grooved highway pavement. I think one review referred to it as tire noise rather than road noise, but whats the difference. I definitely notice I turn my radio up louder on that type of highway surface

That being said, normal asphalt blacktop highways or normal roadways off-highway is the same or quieter than my VW Passat was.

Big Dog, I'm also in the Sacramento area looking for a limited without Nav. What was your discount off MSRP? I believe MSRP on Lmtd. is 20,800. Hoping
to pay 19,500 like I've seen in another post. Which dealer did you go to in
    Sacramento?
  • bigdogbitubigdogbitu Member Posts: 39
    Sacramento Hyundai on Florin Rd!

$22,880 MSRP, $21,500 plus tax and license. Without navi, your price preference is about the same deal I got, around $500 below invoice! See my previous post about it. Good luck!
