after seeing post #732, I feel so bad at my purchase which was made on last Saturday (Dec 2nd).

I got a 2006 2.5S Manual Altima (standard package without any special). It has carpets and splashguards but no ABS, or traction control, etc.

The dealer gave me the invoice price $19800, minus the $2000-rebate. We got another $800 discount after negotiation.

    Invoice: $19800
    - $2000 (rebate)
    - $800
    - $2000 (97' Ford Taurus trade-in value)
    + $400 (destination fee)
final price: $15400 plus taxes, titles, etc. Made down payment of $3000 and financed $12500 with the APR of 5.7% for 60 months.

What a bad deal I've made :(:(

1st post here and having been pouring over previous posts by everyone. It's finally time to upgrade from 98' 200SX-SER and after hearing about the 2007 Altima 2.5 S with 2.5 SL Package made a trip to Nissan of McKinney to check it out in person and very impressed with the look inside and out. Heard back from one dealer in Mesquite and without speaking on anything told me:

"As our Internet Guest, you've saved us time and advertising money, please accept this instant savings for up to *$3000*.

    * = Up to $3000 dollars discount on select new Nissan models. Offer applies to purchase of a new Nissan vehicle only." So I guess this addresses the advertising money question!

Also seeing the following advertisement for the National Year End Sales Event for the 2006 Altima 2.5 S with the special edition package:

2006 Altima 2.5 S with the special edition package:
    $3,200 Total Savings*
    -$2,000 Cash Back Plus
    -$1,200 Special Package
    Excludes TTL

*Cash back when you purchase a new 2006 Altima 2.5 S with the Special Edition Package from dealer stock. Package savings based on MSRP on trip and comfort packages combined. See dealer for details. Offer ends 1/2/2007

    Woolridget,

$3000 Off sound pretty good on the brand new model, although, you should be asking the dealer a different question. I suggest that you actually e-mail at least 2 or 3 dealers /internet managers and ask for a quote on the car with the package that you are interested in. Make sure you indicate the specific options and that you receive a quote on the car with those specific options.
Lets say you`ve contacted 3 dealers, each one of them will most likely get back to you without a quote at first, you will then need to e-mail them again and ask for a price again. Once you get the price from all three dealers, you just e-mail the quote of one dealer to another and they will most likely get back to you with a better offer.
I`ve done it in the past a few times, they never want to loose a sale, the want your business! Internet specialists generally are willing to go lower on the price then a regular salesperson. I don't think you need to negotiate anything at all once you are at the dealer, by that time you should already have an e-mail printed with the final price. But what you need to think about ahead of time, are the minor add-ons, like in my case they were the door and splash guards plus the wheel locks, they ran me an extra 200 bucks. I could’ve knocked the 200 bucks off easily by just standing up and walking away, I was just too tired of dealing with it, so 200 bucks wasn't that much more to pay on the loan over the period of 5 years. I did also purchase extended Gold Nissan warranty up to 100,000 miles and an extra GAP insurance. I really didn't have to do it, just wanted a little piece of mind. I wrecked my Civic before purchasing the Altima and Allstate insurance company had ripped me off, so I decided to spend a little more money and stay kinda worry free. I drive a lot 25,000 miles a year or so. Warranty will be good to have with my high mileage driving. One more thing for you to consider, is, that prices will drop even lower in January of 2007, if you can wait just a little bit longer you will get a slightly better deal then.
Thank you for reading my post and good luck.

Sorry, I misread the last line of the message about where it says that offers end on 1-2-2007, but a couple of weeks from that time they would have new offers...You get the idea.

    cmptekinc,

Thank you so much for all the advice! 1st time doing the internet quotes and thought I should be doing more to insure the dealers get my business! So far I've gotten the congratulatory "Thank you for contacting us" email. I don't have a problem waiting until after the new year for more deals.

I did revisit the McKinney dealership today and noticed that there are two stickers showing once originally from the factory and then the dealer optional sticker, so I see what you mean about the dealer add on's.

What I don't understand is what is EPP? The dealer add on sticker has this for almost $1000!

Also took note of how many 2007's were on the lot with color and features I wanted. I think I read not having many of them on the lot didn't work in my favor.

Again, I appreciate all this great knowledge you guys are sharing. Makes the process a lot less unnerving.

I'm not sure what EPP stands for. You maybe able to get an answer if you e-mail Nissan USA and ask them what it is, unless somebody here knows about it....
  • Options
    woolridgetwoolridget Member Posts: 10
Did a bit more digging and looks like EPP might stand for "Equipment Protection Plan" or Security+Plus Plans I assume. Do they really cost a $1000? I've been told that they aren't worth it if you aren't planning to keep the car for more than 3 years, thoughts?

I also did as you stated requesting email quotes addressed to the internet manager/fleet manager of three dealerships asking for best quotes available on the specific options I needed. Funny how they all responded to the original request guaranteeing "no haggle nor hassle", but they want you to come in to speak with them. I guess everyone is trying to get you in to add on the extras. Let the emails begins!

EPP is for Environmental Protection Plan.. Or, as the dealer's like to call it... Mop 'n Glow...

A package of fairly useless items such as paint sealant, interior Scotchgard, etc, etc.. that might have a total value of about $100..

Just put it under the column of Additional Dealer Profit.

Don't feel so bad about your deal....it was hell trying to get a dealer to make our sale, but we are glad we did. Plus, if you wanted the manual, it is harder to find.

Also, I was told that if we financed it, we would lose the 2000 rebate, so you did ok, as that was 2000 less than I could have done financing it, but 5.7% seems awfully high. I was being quoted 1-2%.

Well it's been a very interesting day and I definitely like the email quotes better than having to sit in a dealership doing this.

Found I qualify for the Nissan/Infiniti Vehicle Purchase Program through my company and here's today's winning quote (so far anyway) on a 2007 Altima 2.5 S with 2.5 SL Package with the following options:

    Winter Frost Exterior
    Charcoal Leather Interior
    SL Package
    • Xtronic CVT with manual mode
    • 16" Aluminum-alloy wheels
    • Automatic on/off headlights
    • Power sliding glass sunroof with tilt feature
    • Leather-appointed seats and door trim
    • 8-way power adjustable driver's seat and power lumbar support
    • Heated front seats
    • Passenger-side front-window one-touch auto-up/down with auto-reverse
    • Dual Zone Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) with in-cabin microfilter
    • Rear passenger vents
    • Dual illuminated visor vanity mirrors with sun visor extenders
    • Remote front windows down
    • Key-operated front windows up/down
    • Leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob
    • Steering wheel-mounted audio controls
    • HomeLink® Universal Transceiver
    • Auto-dimming inside rearview mirror with compass
    • Patterned metallic trim (Charcoal interior only)
    • Illuminated center console
    Includes ABS Option
    Fog Lights
    Splash Guards
    Floor Mats
    Rear Spoiler

TOTAL OUT THE DOOR INCLUDING TTL is $25,217!

This became the baseline for all others to follow today and so far, noone has come close. Extending my quotes out to further dealers and my phone has been ringing all day.

Will let everyone know the final result! Also thinking that if prices are this good now, should definitely get better once there market is more saturated. Again, thanks for all the advice!

Has anyone recently bought a 2007 3.5 with the SL package? If so, what kind of deal did you get? It seems that the 3.5 with SL package is extremely hard to come by on the East Coast, especially with Nav--but I'm determined to find one!!

    hello, need some advice
looking to purchase a new 07 altima, which I love what is best the bottom line price to expect from a dealer? I also have a friends and family nissan discount. What is that worth? Comparing the altima to the Acura tsx. Much smaller car but the resale value is a lot higher. Any thoughts

I was going to lease a 2007 Altima 3.5SE, but the monthly payments were ridiculous. I finally purchased one with the Technology Package.

    MSRP $32,715
    Invoice $29,833
    Paid $29,833

I think it's a great deal. And I guess, that's what counts. Oh, yeah, it was Pinnacle Nissan in Scottsdale, AZ.

    2007 Altima 2.5 SL.

Majestic blue metallic with blonde interior

Price on car before TTL: $22,800

    Financed roughly $23,800.

Not bad. Trade in only provided 168 bucks in equity.

I think I saw a previous post referring to how hard it was to locate the 07 Altima 3.5 SL on the east coast. You are not kidding, it's all the same on the west coast.

I went to buy one and since I am quite picky and wanted the brilliant silver 3.5 with the SL package, but they could not find one. I ended up ordering one and pre-signing the paperwork. Not even sure when it's to arrive but I wait impatiently.

I got it for 30K Supposedly around 300 over invoice price but we all know dealers can doctor invoice prices. I did some research but I could not find actual invoice price on this model anywhere.

The 2007 Altima (probably the 2.5SL) is currently at the top of my 'short list' as I plan on buying a new car in the next 2 months. MSRP is around $26.2K and the invoice $24.4. Competitors have various incentives (rebates, reduced interest rates), however, Nissan is offering nothing right now. Is anyone aware of any upcoming incentives on the Altima? Does history indicate anything coming after the 1st of the year?
I'd wait to look at the hybrid, but at a 15 to 20 percent premium, the payback period is way too long for me.
    Thanks,
    Bill

As good as the 2.5 S looks, I"ll wait until Nissan finds/fixes all the typical first-year bugs in this new build. The statistics on 1st year models (like the 07 Altima) overwhelmingly support my decision (see Consumer Reports for details)

Just leased an 2.5S with SL package in Marlboro, MA. It was Dark Slate outside, black inside and fog lights. I was trading in a 2001 altima with 85k on it,that had been stolen and repaired with with 9k in damage. I got trade in value of over $5500 and $500 recent collage grad rebate. I walked out of the dealership paying nothing, everything including 1st month payment and all taxes and fees taken care of.

The terms were 12k miles a year, 42 months for $299.62.

While doing the paperwork with the finance guy I extend the warranty from the 36k/36 months to the full 42 months and added roadside assistance and free towing to a Nissan dealership, along with 100% free rental car when I am without my car for an extra $3.47 a month. I don't have AAA, so I though why not and in the past 4 years I have had to pay for a tow truck 3x.

This car is SICK, it is by far the best car for the money even when you just stay at the base 2.5S trim level. Toyota Camry and Honda Accord don't hold a candle to this. I think I got a good deal, I hope I did, but I don't care right now as am so pumped I got this amazing car. What do you think of my deal? Did I do good or maybe I could have done a little better?

You need to get out your paperwork and go over it with a fine-toothed comb..

You likely can't get out of the VIN etch, as they actually put work into that (even if it is only worth $30). But, the service contract (warranty?) and maintenance contract likely have cancellation provisions...

The sooner you cancel, the more money you save.. If you've only had the car for one day, they might re-do your paperwork and save you the trouble of doing an official cancellation..

The extended warranty may not be a rip-off, but I wouldn't recommend it. Paying for maintenance in advance on a Nissan? That can't be a good deal.

One point: If you've financed these extras, and you have to jump through the official hoops to cancel them, then you probably won't get a check back. If their is a lien on your vehicle, any refund will be sent to the bank to reduce the loan amount on your vehicle. (which still benefits you).

    Good luck,
    kyfdx

I bought my car last night from a dealer in Omaha, Nebraska called WOODHOUSE NISSAN. Also other dealers in OMAHA are ready to beat him but none had DARK SLATE color which is the only color I liked on lot. The same dealer offered me similar car but without XM package for $22,600 but not readily available on lot. No, trade in is involved with this deal. My CU offered me 5.59 APR for 36 months which they couldn't beat.

by the way, ororahime, you can cancel some of the extras you bought, but most have a 30 day cancellation policy so read them carefully and cancel quickly.

I got the ext warranty myself and some dent protection crap.. they discounted ext warranty for getting them both but I am still cancelling the second one and get full refund and keep ext warranty. ;)

That button start and intelligent key are sooo cool!!
