Looks like the first one will be built Jan 30, that means we might see them at the dealers by the end of Feb.

My dealer (in Dallas) showed me his order list, they have some automatics scheduled to arrive early March, 5 speeds in late March.

My dealer in OK, shows my wagons build date as 1st week in Feb with deliver 4-6 weeks after. It showed the hatch's to be 1-2 weeks ahead of the wagons

I got some pricing info for the 5-door:

  • bostongiobostongio Member Posts: 52
Yeah, that's an older (2003), European-version 5-door. The US versions don't have the side turn-signal marker either (but the Mazda 3 does, go figure).

(That's the easiest way you can determine whether a photo of a Mazda 6 is an international version or a North America version, by that turn-signal marker.)

For the benefit of those like myself who are waiting to see the Mazda6 5door (hatchback) before making our final decisions on our new new car, I have taken the order combo info from Rich (thanks Rich) and made it into a simple list. There are 7 combos for each of the 4 drivetrain options, though at this time it appears that the AT and MT models will share the same combos. Since the 5door has the Sport Package as standard equipment, this simplifies things a great deal, but note that if you want a 5door with 16 inch wheels you are out of luck, at least for now. Sure, they could change this, but I'm not going to hold my breath for that.

    Mazda6 i 5-door (AT and MT):
    i1. Base, no packages.
    i2. Security only
    i3. Bose Audio only
    i4. Luxury only
    i5. Luxury and Bose Audio
i6. Security, Bose Audio, and Moonroof
i7. Security, Luxury, Bose Audio, and Moonroof

    Mazda6 s 5-door (AT and MT):
    s1. Base, no packages
    s2. Luxury only
    s3. Luxury and Bose Audio
s4. Luxury, Bose Audio, and Moonroof
    s5. Bose Audio and Moonroof
s6. Bose Audio, Moonroof, and SAB/SAC
s7. Luxury, Bose Audio, Moonroof, and SAB/SAC

The Security package on the 6i contains ABS, TCS, SAB/SAC, and Alarm.
The Luxury package contains leather, heated seats and mirrors, power seat, and EL gauges.

So, you can look all you want for your particular desired options, but you ain't gonna get it unless it's on the list. Note that if you want an s model with SAB/SAC, you only have two choices. It's a little easier on the i model. I'll probably be looking for s6 (MT).

    Don't shoot the messenger.
  • taddisontaddison Member Posts: 99
Thanks for posting the option combos.

Personally, I'm happy to see that I can get the moonroof with cloth seats on both the i and the s. IIRC this was a big gripe for people on these boards when the sedan first came out.

Now I just have to decide which engine...

Im getting conflicting information on whether the 5door's are now available for order at dealerships. One dealer says yes,but they did not seem all that well informed, another which does seem better organized, (and quoted a better price $500 over invoice) says they dont have the info to order yet. Any one who knows anything I'd sure appreciate it.

    Thanks
  • mazda6smazda6s Member Posts: 1,901
The first orders were restricted to 4 of the available option combos on their first order. Dealers know what they have coming in on this first order. They also have the order info, but they would rather you bought a Mazda6 sedan that they have on the lot. ;)

Oh, and I buggered-up the ‘s’ model combos in my previous post. Here’s the corrected version. Of the combos on the list below, the first order was limited to the s2 (Bose only) or s7 (fully loaded) config, either auto or manual.

    Mazda6 i 5-door (AT and MT):
    i1. Base, no packages.
    i2. Security only
    i3. Bose Audio only
    i4. Luxury only
    i5. Luxury and Bose Audio
i6. Security, Bose Audio, and Moonroof
i7. Security, Luxury, Bose Audio, and Moonroof (fully loaded)

    Mazda6 s 5-door (AT and MT):
    s1. Base, no packages
    s2. Bose Audio only
    s3. Luxury only
    s4. Luxury and Bose Audio
s5. Luxury, Bose Audio and Moonroof
s6. Bose Audio, Moonroof, and SAB/SAC
s7. Luxury, Bose Audio, Moonroof, and SAB/SAC (fully loaded)

The Security package on the 6i contains ABS, TCS, SAB/SAC, and Alarm.
The Luxury package contains leather, heated seats and mirrors, power seat, and EL gauges.

be nice to get the moonroof without the crappy useless Bose audio.
  • mazda6smazda6s Member Posts: 1,901
I wouldn't hold your breath for that one. I'm not even sure I want to wait for the 5-door. My local dealer has a sedan with the equipment I want, and there's a $1500 rebate.
I predict that the 5-door models won't have a rebate for a while.

Checking the colors for the 5-door, it looks like Performance White, Sepang Green and Pebble Ash will not be available.

I sent the following email yesterday:

    Model: MAZDA6
    Year: 2004
I am going to be purchasing a Mazda 6 5-door as soon as
it is available for order by the dealers in my area. Can you give me an
approximate date, when I should be able to place this order. Thanks

    I received this response today.

    Hello Jeff,

    Thanks for contacting Mazda.

I am happy to hear of your interest in the MAZDA6 5-door. This vehicle
is scheduled to start production in early March 2004. Normally the
vehicles can be ordered several weeks in advance. I am researching
this with the Distribution Department and as soon as I receive a more
specific answer I will e-mail you back and let you know.

Again, thank you for contacting Mazda. It has been my pleasure to
assist you. Please feel free to reply to this message with any further
    questions or comments.

    Regards,

I hope this information is usefull to some of you others waiting patiently (or not).

In other words, she didn't really know and was just guessing, or she's got production confused with delivery.

I think we've already received info that the first production for the 5-door is end of Jan and deliveries of these will be late Feb or early March.

Dealers already know what they have inbound for the first deliveries.

jeff.....mazda6 is correct. We started ordering the h/b a couple months ago. The only thing we dont have yet is solid MSRP/invoice numbers. Mazda is famous for waiting for the last minute to give us solid numbers. But we have draft numbers, which are usually close. I am expecting the first car towards the end of Feb.

Or is that just a fake backdrop?

Thansk for you answers...I finally figured out how to ask the question the right way, and got the answer Id been looking for. They can place the order as long as Im comfortable not having the exact price ahead of time.

I guess this as another lesson in communication.

All MAZDA6 5-Door feature 17-inch, five-spoke alloy wheels and 215/50R17 V-rated all season tires as standard and both have height-adjustable head rests at all four positions.
All MAZDA6 5-Doors come standard with a sport package, which in addition to 17-inch wheels includes aggressive front and rear fascias, integrated fog lights, side sill extensions, rear wing, oval-tipped exhaust outlets and titanium-look power window switch panels. All 5-Doors also have a body-colored sport grille and rear wiper/washer.Standard seat-mounted side-impact airbags protect the chest, neck and head of front occupants. An optionally available side-curtain airbag system adds additional protection from side impacts for both front and rear occupants and deploys from the outer edges of the headliner.

The press release you quoted is misleading with respect to the SAB/SAC option on the 5-door, and your paraphrasing made it even more misleading.
For the 5-door, SAB and SAC are optional, part of the Security Package on the 'i' model and a stand-alone option on the 's' model (subject to allowable option combos).
The Wagon may be different though, I don't know about that. They may have actually made SAB standard on the Wagon with SAC as an option, though this doesn't make much sense and doesn't fit with Mazda's option packaging as far as I've seen.

Anyone have any info on any new color choices??
  • rock44xrock44x Member Posts: 78

    6 color choices

    Blazing Copper Metallic
    Glacier Silver Metallic
    Lapis Blue Metallic
    Onyx Black
    Steel Gray Metallic
Volcaic Red (a true hot red like the rx-8 or Atenza 23z )

I believe you and I have read the press releases, but I have the actual dealer order info and it's very clear on this. Press releases often get details like that a little mixed up.

I wish they would make it standard though. It would make it easier to find one with the options I want.

'Are the 5-doors in full production?'

Not yet, next Monday (Feb 2). Wagon to start two weeks after that.

We have a good customer and edmunds regular who's new h/b is scheduled to be built on Feb 9th. Plz make sure it gets built by the best workers ;)
  • redc0ugarredc0ugar Member Posts: 55
You have my e-mail...if you'd like I could, follow the h/b thru the plant. The quality @ AAI is extremely high. My concern is with NAFTA. Vehicles are being made with parts assembled in The Philippines, China, Mexico, etc. etc. It's called "free trade", only thing that's free about it is the labor to make these parts. During Bush's term, Ohio alone has lost over 1/4 million jobs. But "All Americans will have jobs" can you say "would you like fries with your meal?" p.s. to cover MY dupa....I know Clinton had nafta passed.

Sorry for being off-topic, but since you seem to work at Flat Rock perhaps you can tell me how long it takes these days between an order-out at the dealers and an MZ6 (sedan) rolling off the line. I ordered last week, but am concerned that the attractive incentives now on the sedans might vanish by delivery time.

On second thought maybe I'm only half off-topic, as the same would apply to the hatchbacks.

Did they do anything definitive to fix the door sash "stain" issue?

I'm unable to quote dates or make a remark about the "stain", because I'm not in Supervision. Mazda has replied to the "stain" issue. I'd rather not get involved. It appears as though the issue has been rectified. Please forgive that I'm bowing out on this subject.

    It's Melbourne, Mates!
    and I don't mean Florida:

    http://www.skyscraperpage.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4932

Oh... and by the way... I kept bugging Mazda via email to see if they would have foldaway mirrors on the 6 and they said no... and wouldn't even tell me how I could order them from Europe if I decided to buy the 6.
Now in their last email, they are maybe thinking about offering them.
This is New York and I don't want my mirrors knocked off when I'm parked in the city!
I see many cars parked in the city with side mirrors broken off!!! People who can, fold their mirrors.

Maybe if more people bug Mazda...

Why should they shortchange us out of features that are on the Europe and Asian market vehicles just so they can save a few bucks because our government has fewer guidelines on cars?
  • markjennmarkjenn Member Posts: 1,142
Melbourne - very cool, wish I was there right now.

When you say "folding mirrors" are you talking about manually folding ones, or the electrically folders under driven control that they put on Europe and Japan cars.

If you're talking about the former, I thought the car has them.

If you're talking about the later, then Mazda simply doesn't want to put a feature on a car that is costly but that would appeal to only a tiny segment of the market taking their cars to Costco and Barnes and Noble in suburban America. Standard cost/feature tradeoff - don't take it personally. Every other mfg feels the same way, so it's not Mazda ignoring the market.

    Melbourne i agree
the m3 has foldaway mirrors standard on them,
and the mirrors are about the same size if the electrical work is the same maybe you can replace the m6 with the m3 mirrors it sound like some you can try or e-mail mazda uk for part info, it is do able

I do not believe any US spec M3 has ever had electrically folding mirrors. I've heard the M5 has them stock, but this is a $80K car.

I'm not aware of any other US spec car which has them standard.

It is an option on a few US spec MB products, typically in a $1300 option package.

  • rock44xrock44x Member Posts: 78
    no not the bmw M3,
    the Mazda 3 (m3)
  • mazda6smazda6s Member Posts: 1,901
    The M3 is a BMW. The Mazda3 is not an M3. ;)
  • markjennmarkjenn Member Posts: 1,142
Sorry about all the confusion. Just to be clear, the US spec Mazda 3 doesn't have electrically folding mirrors either.

It's just not something that is very useful to the vast majority of US drivers. That doesn't mean it isn't useful to you of course, but I don't think we can get on Mazda's case for not offering something for which there is virtually no demand.

  • mazdafunmazdafun Member Posts: 2,329
They're one of those things you don't miss until you've had them.

I for one like having side mirrors that can be folded or bend out of the way (had the bend-away ones on my '89 323LX and have the folding ones on my '99 ProLX). My wife wish she'd had them on her Saturn when she got too close to the side of her garage when backing out of it. Ouch! That was kind of an expensive repair. She complained about the lack of that feature for a while.

I think they're more common in Europe and Japan because they have less elbow room than we in the US and Canada have, so parking spaces tend to be on the tighter side.

Cars made overseas generally have folding mirrors as they allow the mfr to pack more vehicles in the same amount of space, thus saving on shipping charges. Usually (but not always), once they start being manufactured in NA, mfrs tend to chuck them in favor of cheaper, fixed side mirrors (unless their customers complain enough about the change). The "domestically" made vehicles I usually see with folding side mirrors are larger ones like trucks and SUVs because their mirrors get pretty large. I bet a few don't even fit through a "standard" 8x7ft garage door opening without folding at least one of the side mirrors.

Plus, if you have one of those garages (for those who have one) where they cheaped out on floor beams and placed a metal pole in the middle of the garage (right opposite the side mirrors) to support the floor above, folding the side mirror can make getting through between the car and said pole possible, especially when carrying stuff.
  • rock44xrock44x Member Posts: 78
no the mazda3 US model does have electrically folding mirrors on it all model

the mazda6 US does not have electrically folding mirrors why i don't know
  • markjennmarkjenn Member Posts: 1,142
I'd like to see some documentation that the US Mazda 3 has electrically folding mirrors. I just reviewed the specs here and on Mazda USA and it says nothing about this. I'd be *extremely* surprised if it does have electric folders.

It does have the option for power remote mirrors, but the "power remote" here refers to remote adjustment, not folding mirrors.

    - Mark
  • mazda6smazda6s Member Posts: 1,901
The US Mazda3 has folding mirrors, but they do not fold electrically. The US Mazda6 does not have folding mirrors.
  • orangelebaronorangelebaron Member Posts: 435
Thanks for the info. Look what I started!!!

I looked at the M3 parked next to the M6 and I don't think the mirror supports are exactly the same.. so I would have to find a way to order from England or wherever.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 50,441
was able to check out the hatch at the Philly auto show yesterday. Style wise, looked very sharp (and quite reminiscent of my old 626 5 door). The cargo area wasn't quite as large as I expected, but of sourse you get the flexibility of removing the hard cover and folding the seats.

Did notice that the rear headroom was compromised. I had to slouch, otherwise my head was plastered on the ceiling (with my neck bent to fit). The wagon, OTOH, I had inches to spare (same as in the 3 hatch). So, you pay the price for the sloping roof line.
