Everyone depending upon their negoitiation skills and how long they want to sit at a dealer and play the game will get the best price. If you walk out of dealership because he won't sell you a car for invoice or below then so be it as others have on this forum. If you pay MSRP which is the baseline then you are a fool. Remember a few years ago when you had to pay more than MSRP? If you get ticked off because a dealer won't sell you a car for invoice or below invoice then your not being realistic. My point is that everyone needs to make a profit and be productive for their employeer or themselves. I am not a dealer dude, but a person who makes ton's of profit for my company daily. On a daily basis, I negotiate prices with vendors, contractors etc who supply and perform work for our jobs around the country and will always ask them for their best price. I can't and won't chisel them down to where they can't afford to put gas in their trucks. If they are not profitable, then I lose in the end.

Nevertheless, my wife will enjoy the car!!!

Good - remember no dealer will sell you a car unless he wants to. They are smart businessmen otherwise they would not be in business. Trust me - they are smart -they dont sell you a car and scrounge around for pennies to buy gas for their jalopies.

This is a board for people looking or savings and sharing information towards that purpose. You dont sermonize folks who seek a good deal on his board by your ridiculous ramble - "One thing that I don't like about this forum is that it seams that dealers are not allowed to make a profit. Since when are companies not allowed to make a profit. Have we turned into the United States of Soviet Socialist Republic".

This is one message wasted on a forum that deals with MDX pricing! Go enjoy your car - and congrats again!

I finally got a chance to test drive the MDX with the technology package and had a few concerns. I'm wondering if others have seen these issues and how they dealt with them.

    1. The dead pedal seems too close to the drivers seat. I only had about 10 minutes driving it so maybe I didn't get everything adjusted the best. I'm 6'-1" and adjust the seat all the way back in every vehicle I've driven. I'm pretty sure I did the same thing in the MDX, but my left leg just wasn't stretched out the way I like. Any other tall people out there have a similar experience?

    2. The exterior mirrors are tinted blue. The salesman said that's to minimize glare at night. Maybe it's something I could get used to, but every time I looked at the mirrors I focused more on the color than objects in the mirror I was trying to see. I also found it harder to see things in the mirrors than on a standard mirror. Has anyone else had this experience?

    Thanks.

    1. I had the same concern as I'm 6'3". But once you get the seat set up for you it doesn't seem to be an issue. I have now taken a 300 mile trip in mine, and I was more comfortable than I feel I would have been in the Navigator I traded. The seat ergos just seem to make up for it being short on the Left leg.

    2. You will get used to the blue mirrors in time. You can not even see the blue at night, they look clear.

I felt a little weird with the dead pedal being so close but after a week or so I absolutely love it. It just feels right and I wondered why every other car I owned had it wrong after this.

The blue mirrors didn't bother me at all. You will easily get used to it. I don't notice any difference in glare from rear approaching vehicles but hey it looks cool since it is on all Mercedes and other high quality vehicles.

Local Acura dealer had this originally listed for $41995, then $40995 and now $39995. It's been sitting for about 6-8 weeks as far as I can tell.

I'm looking for opinions on a "good" price for this vehicle.

    Thanks in advance

It's really hard to figure the price on a used car of any type. You never really know what the dealer paid for it. I guess this is the way it really should be with all cars, new and used.

In most cases I have never been able to make a deal on a used Acura. The resale value is very good and the MDX is one of the strongest. I have seen people pay more for used one they could have bought a new one for. If it were me I would look at a new one for what you are looking at paying.

I'm 6'4" and came out of a Chevy Tahoe and with the seat all the way back am very comfortable in this MDX. At first I thought that dead pedal was really stupid but after a few weeks I got used to it and don't even notice it now.

I have never noticed the blue tint on the mirrors.

Thanks for the feedback and perspective... As you suggested, I'm finding that the used MDX's (1-2 years old) are selling for about the same price that a savvy buyer could probably have paid for the same vehicle when it was new. I guess I'm back to looking at new since the 1-2 year old MDX's haven't depreciated much.

    Thanks again.

I am trying to buy MDX this week. I liked Tech with Nav. and Entertainment . You guys have any good idea for this price. My friend bought in Oct 2009 (09 model) for 41,500 before tax and Finally everything came on road (title and tax) is 44K change.

Will I get same deal now for 2010 model? Friends, give me you suggestions.

The 09's had $2K dealer cash (rebate).

The 09 Tech invoice was around $39,7XX, after the rebate was applied.

No rebate so far for 2010 MDX. They seem to be selling quick in my area.

Check that main Edmunds site or True Car, for accurate pricing for your area.

from what i've seen, dealer's are very, very resistant to negotiating on MDX's. the best i've seen is ~2K off MSRP.

So today I got a call from the finance dept saying I needed to bring in a copy of my social security card because honda financing asked to see If it was really me. I said I will think about it and tell them tommorrow.

Now they already have a copy of my drivers, diploma and paystub. Why would they need this? I am 25 and it's my first car loan. I got a credit score of 771. I qualified for the 2.9%.

    Any idea? Thanks

    Whoa whoa whoa...stop the presses!!!

    http://www.carbuyingtips.com/scams.htm

    Are you financing through Honda/Acura?

If you have not given your SSN, you are not yet approved. They need your SSN to run your credit on their systems to see what loans you are eligible for and on what terms. They are going to take your SSN and submit it to multiple banks and see what terms each has to offer, and what the benefit is to the dealership. While Acura may have a 2.9% rate, maybe JP Morgan has a 3.5% rate with a kickback or volume incentive to the dealership. Maybe Bank of America will come back with a 1.9% rate with a dealer incentive.

Not knowing your dealership, I'd wager they'll push you towards the best rate for you which gives the dealership the most benefit as well. They may tell you Acura is 2.9% but hey there's a BofA rate at 1.9%. Or they may push you to the 3.5% JPM rate.

Be careful of scams. More abuse and fraud happens in the finance manager's office than anywhere else in the dealership.

What I would recommend, and hopefully it's not too late for you, is to do an application with someone who is reputable who can qualify you on the spot (Pentagon Federal Credit Union has an excellent loan right now...Capital One isn't so bad, but do you own due diligence).

This way, if they try any shenanigans about what loans and what terms, you can just tell them you're going to use your financing. They would rather give you the car for less than let you leave without financing there.

    Hello,

I am getting a price of $34k on a 09 MDX base thats certified and only has 17k miles on it. Thoughts on if this is a good deal?

Also, how high is the tailgate on the MDX? Is it somewhat higher for shorter people to reach down and close it?

Also, any thoughts on price comparisons with the Volvo XC60? It is between this car and the MDX for me, the Volvo maintenance for 5 yrs is attractive.

    Thanks

hi, onehagg, one comment on the tailgate. the mdx tech and maybe the base, too? has a button to push to bring the tailgate down (one button on the tailgate and one inside the car), so you do not have to reach all the way up. my 9 year old son can reach the button on the tailgate.
regarding the volvo vs mdx. i traded in my volvo xc wagon to get the mdx. after owning a volvo for 10 years, i said: "never again"....very unreliable and $$ to fix...
    that's my 2 cents worth!

Your price of $34k for the 09 MDX base with 17k miles on it is probably about as good a price as you will find in the used market.

That being said, brand new 09 MDX base models were selling for $34-$35k in November. I just can't bring myself to pay the same price for used car with 15k plus miles for the same price it was selling new.

Keep in mind though, that there are no new 09's left, and the 10's are selling for significantly more than $35k.

The True Car site has the prices jacked up today. They even show the sticker rising.

Might be a mixup on their end? Or maybe something is coming down the pipeline?

Thanks - I have tried to find a new 2009 but as you mentioned they are all gone. The dealer is throwing in an extended bumper to bumper warranty of 7 yrs, 100k miles so i am not worried about the mileage too much.

anyone have bad luck with buying service loaners? I just found out the mileage is actually at 20k, not 17k like i thought and it seems a lot for a 2009?

I recently took a look at the base MDX, and was told the main difference between the base and tech models was the navigation system, so didn't look at the tech version (my bad, but was short on time). The base has a tiny rear camera view on the rearview mirror, and the tech has it on the navigation's screen. However, after doing some checking online, it appears that the tech has a multi-rear camera instead of just having one view. There is the obvious size difference, but what do you see differently on the tech? Are there several different views at once? Are they any more helpful?
  • Options
    lhhlhh Member Posts: 35
etspam, on the tech, the camera can give you a wide angle view which is really cool because it's almost as if you can see around both corners behind you. there's also a view on the camera which lets you look straight down which is good to check if you are about to run over something (like your kids backpack, which i did because i did NOT use that view)....

I bought the Tech model since they did not have base model with color I wanted. Beside rear view camera, you will get better sound system and leather seats. The feature I like on mine is the navigation which I did not wanted first but now I really like it since it gives you weather, traffic reports and big screen camera. You can also upload photo in the hard drive and set it as wallpaper.

I believe it was a mixup (Truecars.com) . I believe they are adding the $810.00 destination charge twice....

As far as pricing my wife just took delivery of her 2010 MDX Tech with all weather mats for $ 42,120 + TTL. I believe for what I have previously seen here we just got a killer deal. Do your homework, be nice, be firm and you'll get it.......

After an exhaustive search of used MDXs, I have decided to purchase a 2010 base if a $2k incentive comes getting the price down to around $36k.

I know they had an incentive simlar or even better than this in the October/November time frame. Does anyone know if historically Acura offers a similar incentive every October/November timeframe? Does Acrua ever offer incentives like this mid-year, or is it totally dependent on how sales are going?

I have the luxury to wait, but I hate to wait until November and there still not be any incentives on the 2010's.

$46,600 is a little high but I don't think you are going to find anyone to sell you a NEW 2010 Tech Ent for $43,000/$43,500. I think the best you can do is $44,300 and the dealer makes nothing except any Doc fee they charge. The more realistic price would be about $45,700 to $46,000

I bought 2010 MDX with Tech package from Performance Acura in Chapel Hill, NC. I paid $43,219 + tax, tag and doc fee = $44,985. Ask for Phil if you go.

My lease is ending on my volvo xc70 with all the tech options (blind spot/park assist/lane departure warning/driver alert + the usual major safety features.
I was planning on getting a new, similar volvo-->MSRP 49k. The best dealer offer is 39.5k.

To my dismay I discovered that there is no crash safety data on the NHTSA and informed for life web sites for the volvo xc70. So I decided to look at the acura MDX (very good safety ratings- I have small kis, always been my priority) with advanced and entertainment package. The MSRP is 53k (4 k more than the msrp for volvo).
Does anyone know how much of a discount i can expect for a 2010 MDX off the MSRP ( i'm in the nyc area)
    Thanks

Does the $43,219 you paid include destination?

Yes that includes the destination, we pay 3% sales tax in NC so total out to door was $44,985.

Those prices aren't even possible for a new Base model MDX. The bottom line dealer cost with you getting the dealer hold back is $39,405. At that price the dealer makes nothing except the doc fee. Not going to happen.

got a 2010 base mdx last night. $542 mo + tax, 36mo/15k mi. only paid 1st month + inceptions. dealer also bought my 07 mdx and made the remaining 3 payments on lease. threw in all weather mats, wheel locks. i feel it is a fair deal.
