Snowplowing with a Toyota Tundra

Has anyone had a plow (Western or other)installed
on a Tundra and did you have any problems?

    Western, Fisher, Meyers, Boss, Diamond
    DO NOT currently make a plow for a Tundra.
    Western does make one for the Tacoma and
    other small pickups tho ! There are a few
    "housey" brand drag along kind being made
    for Tundra. Also if you "cob" one on your
    Tundra Mr. Toy dealer might give you a
    warranty void issues ! AS would any other
    make without the snow plow prep option !

    "I am the owner of a 40 lot RV and mobile home park. All of the snow removal for the past two seasons has been done with a Snowman 7½´ power angle receiver hitch snowplow. I am able to clean all entrances, exits, drives and streets with the Snowman plow, no front plow, and from the comfort of my Tundra. Initially I had the plow mounted on a Toyota 4 runner. This past season I purchased a Toyota Tundra and was able to simply transfer the plow to the reciver hitch of the Tundra without the need to add a new and costly mounting system. We had record snowfall this past December, one storm of 14", and I used the Snowman plow exclusively with no need for a front plow. I am ecstatic over the easy on/off hookup to my vehicle's existing receiver hitch and the fact that the vehicle's clean appearance is maintained - no unsightly mounting brackets. The Snowman plow does everything I need and then some!"

    The only reason front mount plows are hard to find is simply because the Tundra is a new design.

    on the rear of the truck ? Sorrry thats
    what i meant about the "housey" plows !
    The Tundra is/was meant for home depot
    and commuting ! You need a real truck to
    plow commercially (spl) you need something
    else !
    Ask your dealer about plow related issues !
    Ask about plow related breakage issues !
    Ask about warranty issues........
    Don't get fooled !
    Ask yourself why nobody makes a real plow
    for a Tundra ! But they do make a real
    plow for a Taco ! Does that tell ya
    something ! Not flaming on this issue
    Check first !

    BTW : Tundra is a weak POS that can't do
    anything ! Why do you think no major plow
    mfrs. don't make one for them. But they do
    make them for Tacomas ?

    Somebody who HAS ACTUALLY used their Tundra for snow plowing is "ecstatic" with its performance. Poor biased sonjaab just can't seem to accept that fact.

    that a Tacoma would be viewed superior to a Tundra in terms of snowplowing as well as many other things. We don't plow much snow here in LA so I can't comment on which plow is best and so on. But certainly if a Tacoma is capable, then wouldn't a Tundra be as well ???

    Just similiar suspension components, but the Tacoma has less weight on the front end (smaller truck), allowing for a plow. To add the plow to the Tundra, the front suspension needs to be upgraded.

    I loved my Tacoma and worked the heck out of it but if you put the same diff,trans and suspension in a thousand pound heavier truck there's not much truck left for working.Tundra is comfortable,reliable,nimble and overloaded from the factory.

    Them tundra ones got that same trannie, pumpkins, and bellypans as them hi-lux ones now. Them pee-wee parts in that "full size" one just aint goin work as hard now. Facts is facts. Good luck on this one now!

    truck stuff. Just trying to help a
    fellow "plowhead" out. I have plowed
    for 12 yrs. . And I have had MANY brands
    of trucks ! Just stating facts ! There
    is no COMMERCIAL Brand plow currently
    being made for Tundra ! Toyota won't
    allow one on Tundra. A lot of it has to
    do with GVW (gross vehicle weight).
    Thats why you can get a plow (western)
    for a Tacoma or a few other small pickups !

    know of no one over there with
    a commercial plow on a Tundra !
    Seems here ya can't get help or
    get flamed to death. Ask your
    dealer about warranty and plowing
    related issues before you do anything !

    The plowsite boys have a annual BBQ
    in Poughkeepsie NY (spl). I have been
    there and met a lot of those guys in
    PERSON ! Ask over there about me !
    CT-fireman, Wolfie, Got grass (mike),
    Dino, John Allin ,Rob aka 75V just to
    name a few !
    Its too bad we Edmunds boys can't get
    something like that going! I know
    Ryan and a few others have tried to do
    this !
    Besides when your out plowing
    at 3 am and your broke down or stuck
    a fellow plowhead WILL stop and HELP
    ya out NO MATTER what you drive....geo

    I think that I have posted it before that my neighbor put a snowplow on the front of his Tundra & his truck fell apart. His Toyota Dealer told him that nothing is covered as they don't allow a snowplow on the Tundra as it was not designed for that kind of abuse. They told him he needs to buy a FULL SIZE truck (that was their exact words). I think you might get away with a snowplow on it if you plow very very gently & never try to snowplow more than a drive or 2.

    As for a rear plow, that is not a snowplow as most plowers think of when asked about but it will work on just about any truck, SUV or car that has a 2" hitch & 4x4.

    I've snowplowed now for over 27 yrs. with all kinds of plows & trucks. Snowplows can go on any truck but will the truck hold-up is the real problem, all I can say is his Tundra didn't hold-up so I wouldn't put one on this TOY.

    it's a pretty sad commentary on the current Tundra that it can't even snowplow. Well maybe the newer model in a year or so will be better. Pretty funny to think the Tacoma can handle what the Tundra can't, but it makes sense.

    The Taco suspension is different than the Tundra. I don't think you can find a tougher off road machine than the little one.

    Its got a lot to do (at least on GMs)
    with GVW (gross vehicle weight) as I
    was told at a few GM dealers .
    GM assumes on a 1/2 xcab with the weight
    of the plow and 6 passengers you will
    exceed the 6400 ?lb. GVW.
    But on a reg cab 1/2 GM with the weight
    of plow and 3 passengers you will not
    exceed the 6100? GVW.
    Thats why I had to go to a 2500 LD xcab
    this time ! 8600? lb GVW
    They also must have the factory plow
    prep. pkg too ! (even ford and mopar)
    Or they will void your warranty !
    But some dealers don't care and will
    warranty anything as far as plowing
    related breakage !
    And many plow dealers and mfrs. will NOT
    install plows on certian truck models !
    Weird huh ?........geo...my 2 cents

    BTW: please correct me on them GVW
    rates if I am wrong..Quoting from
    my feeble memory......LOL !

    Wonder if that GVW got anything too do with that factory not offerin that hitch on that limited one now? Could that GVW be over that limit cuz of that wieght of that hitch? What say? Good luck on this one now!

    I was at a party last night & a guy had put a Wolf snowplow(BJ'sWholesale) on his Tundra & I asked him if he has had any problems with Toy on warranty work & he paused & said what do you mean, do you know . He went on to say that every problem he has had they tell him it was snowplow related & Toy don't allow snowplows on their Tundra's. Even though the Wolf plow is a very little wimpy light snowplow.

    with equipment that is not designed for the job, but the job is easier and the equipment lasts longer if the task and the equipment match.
