328i with premum pckg. MSRP $38125 for $34945
    payments $418. with $878 down 12000 mile/36 months.
    Money factor - .00175 residual 64%.
It'll be .00190 for credit less than 740.

    Can I do better?

Car Man or Kyfdx, please let me know if this is a good LEASE deal. I live in Seattle. Excuse me for cutting and pasting. The drive certificate is just some promotional thing I got for going to this Oympic support event at the dealership. Would really appreciate your expert advise which helped me a lot with my last purchase.

    VEHICLE
    Vehicle: 2011 BMW 3-SERIES 1143 4dr Sdn 335xi
    Stock #:
    VIN:
    Miles: 8

    PURCHASE OPTION
    Vehicle Price: $52,700.00
    Preferred Customer Discount: $2,500.00
    AWD CREDIT: $1,840.00
    DRIVE CERTIFICATE: $1,000.00

    Total Selling Price: $47,360.00

    Sales Tax (estimate): + $4,641.28
    Tag/Registration Fees (estimate): + $203.25
    Documentation Fee: + $150.00
    Balance Due (estimate): $52,354.53
    No Trade-In

    LEASE OPTIONS
    Cash Due 36 months
    Rebates: $750
    12,000 Miles
    $1,082 $655 - I would do this option.

    $3,000 $597
    $5,000 $535

The payments have the sales tax included.

The cap cost (sale price) is $46,610 after all of the discounts are factored in, including the $750 lease cash currently being offered. There is a $925 acquisition fee that BMW charges added back in to the cap cost. so a net cap of $47,535.

Residual is 60% of the MSRP or $31,620

    The money factor is .00195

The up front money is your first monthly payment, license fee, doc fee and tax on the $750 rebate ($73.50)

Thanks in advance for your help!!

    1) The base acq.fee is $725.. the dealer is marking up the maximum allowable $200 for extra profit (typical)

    2) I show the base MF for the 335xi sedan as .00175.. If you are a returning customer, the loyalty rate is .00145.. It looks like they are marking up your rate for extra profit.. If you aren't a returning customer, and aren't making a security deposit (.00015 bump for that), then they aren't marking it up much...

    3) On your first option, I calculate $596/mo.+ tax.. The payment looks correct with those parameters if your sales tax is nearly 10%.. That's assuming your state taxes the monthly payment..

Thanks for the fast reply. This is their initial offer. I am a returning customer, many times returning. Tax is nearly 10% in Washington. 3 questions. So you are ok witht he cap cost? Should I be getting .00145 without question if credit rating is great etc? How much would that reduce my monthly payment? Or another way of asking is what should my monthly payment be with .00145 not including tax even if I pay the extra $200 acq. fee?

    Thanks for all your help.

    Hi,

I'm in IL, so these options are all Owner's Choice rather than traditional leases so I can avoid the monthly use tax. Anyway, I have a couple of initial offers, and I'd like help knowing how to proceed.

    Option 1
    2011 BMW 325i
    Dealer demo w/2800 miles
    Premium package
    Cold weather package
    Price $35,900
    OC Interest 5.5%
    Residual 62.5%
    Monthly payment ~ $510

    Option 2
    2011 BMW 325xi
    Brand new
    Premium package
    heated seats
    heated steering wheel
    Price $38,580
    OC interest 7.2%
    Residual 63%
    Monthly payment ~ $599

Both are for 36K/36mo. I realize they're not the same car. xDrives are more common here, but I'm happy with RWD. I'm also not worried about the differences in features. I'd be happy with either car. I just want to figure out the best deal for each of them. So, my questions are

    1. What % of MSRP should I be paying for a demo with 2800 miles? The price he quoted (option 1) is a discount of about 9.9% off MSRP.
    2. What % of MSRP should I be paying for a new car? The price quoted there (option 2) is 5.6% below sticker.
    3. How low can OC interest go? My credit score is 825.

From what I can tell from other posts, I should be able to get 10% below sticker for a new car, so I'm hoping even lower for a demo. Anyone else out there with Owner's Choice interest rates to compare?

    Thanks for your help!

This sounds like a good deal. What dealership are you using? I was quoted $436 for zero down on a 2011 328i a few days ago, but for 10000 miles 36 month @ MSRP of ~$38,000.
  • asadeeeasadeee Member Posts: 2
Take a look at this deal that Ft. Worth, Texas Autobahn BmW is offering.
    www.autobahnbmw.com

$428/month with only $428 down owner's choice on any 328i with an msrp under $39,000. The balloon payment at the end of the 3 years 36 month/12k mile terms is $24,960. I am not sure what the money factor will be. They are bringing it in from their port warehouse.

I guess I wanted to get your feedback on the owner's choice program. In 3 years does 24,960 seem reasonable?

    Thanks,

    Dallas, TX

p.s. let me know if i should post on the forum.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 32,933
is it a lease or a balloon note?
You say balloon payment, but the mileage limit indicates lease. If it is a lease, the residual really doesn't matter in this case. If the car is worth less than the residual at lease end, then just give the car back and walk away. If it is worth more, than you can buy it at a bargain price.

  • asadeeeasadeee Member Posts: 2
well this is a hybrid financing option that some BMW dealers still do. "owner's choice" you get lower payments of a lease with less down but you're the owner. it is an actual balloon payment fixed at the end. the mileage limitations are consistent with a lease.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 236,760
You see these a lot in Texas and Illinois, because those states charge tax on the full selling price of the car, even on a lease..

By doing the balloon note, you have title to the car, and can take advantage of the trade-in sales tax credit.

I think the reason there are mileage limitations, is because Owners Choice allows you to return the car, instead of paying the balloon amount..

So it sounds like what GM/Chrysler used to do. Can't remember what they called it. We did it with the wife's Pacifica. Treated it just like a lease and turned it in at the end. No problems except there was a turn-in fee at the end equal to about 1 month payment. In that instance, it was a great deal, too. $0 down and $485/mo on a $39k vehicle. Buyout was something like $18k, which was way more than it was worth at the end.

BMW corp won't tell me (they must know by now). Car and Driver says no. Dealer says yes :confuse: However the dealer can't order one yet because they don't have the info from BMW yet.

If you have real info - please let me know as I want to order a new 2012 328xi for Euro delivery soon. Otherwise I will buy a used A4 Avant. It is a crazy shame how many Euro wagons are no longer being brought into the US - V70, V50, C300, A6, 535, Passat... I sure hope the 328xi isn't next, especially since it is one of the last to offer a manual.

I'm looking to purchase a new, 2011 335i sedan. I'm interested in the Sport and Premium packages. I'm aware that the 2012 model will be a significant redesign. Consequently, I think that the 2011s remaining on dealer lots should command a substantial discount. What pre-tax price would you consider a good deal, assuming the MSRP is $52,000? Thank you in advance for your help. [EDIT: I'm located in Texas, in case that is helpful.]
  • fabs335ifabs335i Member Posts: 2
I can only briefly comment on the performance difference between the 328i & 335i, since I had the pleasure of owning both. If you are a first timer with BMW, then yes go ahead and get the 328i, it's a fun car to drive. Later you may want to get into a 335i where you will notice a big difference in performance! Once you get into a 335i you ask yourself why you didn't do that sooner.

I am looking at a used 13000 mile 2011 328i MSRP 44,675.00. The dealer has discounted it to 38,990.00. Is this a good deal? Car has the following, Convenience Package, Cold weather Package, Premium Package, Value Package, Steptronic, Nav, etc.

Is this a good deal or should it be discounted more? They are offering me a lease @36 months/15000/year no money down for 598.00.

According to Truecar.com, you could buy that car for around $41,000 so you'll have to decide if it's worth 13,000 miles to save $2,000. Something to bear in mind is that you're leasing the car for 45,000 miles, so the car could have up to 58,000 miles on it when you return it. The warranty will run out at 50,000 (and possibly the included maintenance too).

As for the numbers, the new lease figures should be 0.00190 money factor and 61% residual if I remember correctly. Assuming you're paying all the fees up front, then I make the payment to be $451 plus tax. Because it's used, they'll be using different figures.

If you were to buy the same car new, and get it for $41,000, then your monthly should be around $512+tax.

Bear in mind, I'm no professional at this. Just pulling in info from different sources. I did sell Infinitis for a couple of years though :)
  • rrt1rrt1 Member Posts: 9
Thanks mortienne! I really dont know what to do. Can you give me your opinion on what you would do? Should I just look at another brand new one or take this one. Their lease price was including all fees and taxes no money down for 598.00. 36 months/1500/yr.
  • kball2kball2 Member Posts: 62
What are the current money factor, residual %, and other incentives for the 2011 335i (Sedan) and 2011 335d. Term is 36 months and 10k miles per year. I am a current BMW owner.

I am seeing $1,000 bonus cash (loyalty) and $750 dealer cash. Is there also a reduction in the money factor for a returning customer?

How does the $3,500 ECO credit work on the BMW 335d - is this a discount? I typically can get a deal $750 to $1,000 above invoice - so can I subtract the $3,500 from that price?

    Thanks

  • insidecarbuyinsidecarbuy Member Posts: 95
The money factor is .00190 and for a 36 month lease with 10,000 miles per year the residual is 61%. You should be looking for $1,500 behind invoice then the $3,500 ECO credit, then the $750 bonus cash and the loyalty can be used as $1,000 or to reduce the money factor by .00030. The mark up from M.S.R.P. to invoice is 7% on any BMW. So if the M.S.R.P. is $54,350 your selling price should be $43,795.00 if you use the loyalty off the selling price.
  • insidecarbuyinsidecarbuy Member Posts: 95
What model 3-series? What is the M.S.R.P.? Sounds very high....
  • insidecarbuyinsidecarbuy Member Posts: 95
The 335i sedan currently has a credit for auto transmission of $1,305.00 and APR cash of $750. You should be looking for a selling price of $1,500 to $2,000 behind invoice minus incentives... So on a $52,000 car the selling price should be between $44,305 and $44,805 if your financing. Don't forget about the 1.9% for 36 months and 2.9% for 60 months special APR rate.
  • kball2kball2 Member Posts: 62

    Insidecarbuy,

Thanks for the information. Where did you get the $1,500 behind invoice? It is typically difficult to get behind invoice on a BMW unless there is some program supporting it.

If I were to offer $43,795 (per the example) the dealer would be making zero on the car - correct?

Do you have current rates for a 335i sedan (3 years, 10k miles per year)?

    Thanks

Looking at a 2011 335d. Jet black, oyster interior. Pretty well loaded (sports, premium, convenience, cold weather, idrive, etc)

    MSRP is 56750 and the offer on the table is $49400. (56750 - 3500 eco - 1000 loyalty - 750 finance/lease cash).

Edmunds gives a TMV of 50,354. I am assuming that includes the 3500 eco credit, but not the 1750 for loyalty / finance.

For a 2011, I think I should be getting closer to invoice, however I saw an earlier post talking about prices up to 1500 _under_ invoice. Is there a factory to dealer incentive that I'm missing somewhere?

What current incentives are available for October 2011 for a 2011 335xi sedan? The sales guy at my dealership mentioned 2 incentives for me - an $1840 "navigation" credit as well as a loyalty incentive (either $1000 or 0.00030 off the MF). Is that all that is available? Others have mentioned $750 dealer cash as well. Would that also be available in my case?

I would never pay that much for a Bimmer without comfort access.

since it's a M/T, I won't be able to use my key to start the engine... so that feature is 1/2 useless in my case. May be I'll add Nav. to it, which there might be a credit?

What? Look at the number if it is OTD including taxes. It would be a crazy deal unheard of. For 6% taxes, the sale price of the car is like 44,000 for a car with MSRP 52,000. $3000 below invoice? Is BMW going to file bankruptcy or something crazy like that?
Hey anh3, Would you share which dealer you are working with?

that's before taxes, but it'll still a little less than or at invoice. I think that's still a good deal. I live in the Midwest.

Starting to hunt for a 328i in the LA area. Any thoughts on how much I should look to be spending on a car with the specs below:

    Metallic paint
    Dakota leather
    Nav
    Xenon lights
    Heated front seats
    Smartphone integration
Comfort access (would be nice but not necessary)
