I also think this is high - as are most Honda dealer used car prices when first posted. The CRV (along with almost any Honda) does retain an impressive percentage of original price however. I purchased a 2007 EXL FWD in April but waited two months before the price was down to what I felt was a good deal for a vehicle with 75K on it. I like the fact that there is only 25K and original warranty time still remaining on the CRV you are considering- more protection for you.
    1. Compare the best price you can get for a 2010 LX AWD with the used one you are considering. You may be able to time buying a 2010 just as the 2011s are hitting lots. Remember the LX is the "value" line and in demand.
    2. Price check all similar used CR Vs using Auto Trader or similar search engine.
    3. Check retail trade value and selling prices on KBB and Edmunds.
    4. Get your own financing lined up.
    5. Determine YOUR fair price and make an offer - be prepared to walk away OR for them to call you back in a week or two.

I bought it at Middletown Honda which typically does not give great deals. I thought I'd have to buy in Brewster, NY or NJ. Did you check out the price quotes on overstock.com? Click on cars at the top. I used the lowest price on overstock as a start.
  • roberta47roberta47 Member Posts: 9
I personally would not be interested in a CRV that had been used as a rental. I would take the advice given in another post and wait a few more weeks to get a great deal on a 2010 leftover. Try at the end of August....or even Sept.

Hey Buddy, can you please tell me which dealer you went to in NY, and the sales person so dealt with? I am looking forward to purchase a 2010 CR-V EX AWD too. Thanks. Trying to get the best price I can in area. Thanks A million.
  • neonbrightneonbright Member Posts: 4
My car prior to my CRV was rental and is still in the family. I got it 2 years old with 30,000 miles drove it for 6 years and now it has 78000 miles and going strong. But as far as a rental purchase get the best price you can get. As far as 2010 left overs there will not be a next model until summer 2011, there will be 2010's for awhile.
  • vkasikvkasik Member Posts: 6
Hi.Thanks for all the prompt responses. I dont plan on waiting till the summer of 2011 for a used 2010 left over. I intend to buy a 2009 as my need for a bigger car is right now since i am driving a 93 toyota corrolla junk that has 130K on it and looking to trade-in for $800 (negotiated price with the dealer) :)
I just want to make sure that a fleet vehicle (as listed in carfax), but with clean history is a safe bet.
One other concern I have is on the warranty.
Typical factory bumper-to-bumper warranty on it is at 3yr/36000 miles whichever comes first.
Since it is a 2009 CRV LX that has 25000 miles on it, should I go for an extended warranty on it or get it honda certified which will automatically extend the warranty on it to 7yrs/100000 miles ? I plan to use this vehicle for atleast 5-6 years when I buy it.
  • roberta47roberta47 Member Posts: 9
You don't have to wait for summer 2011 to get a leftover 2010 CRV. The new 2011 CRVs will be here soon....Sept. 2010...as in a month from now. That's why you should be able to get a good deal on a NEW 2010 CRV this month. What is your zipcode? I'll check overstock.com for you.

I bought it at Middletown Honda which typically does not give great deals. My salesperson was Gus Cabrera. I thought I'd have to buy in Brewster, NY or NJ. Did you check out the price quotes on overstock.com? Click on cars at the top. I used the lowest price on overstock as a start.

I tried overstock.com with your zipcode and there were no cars in your zipcode area on that site.
However, I tried truecar.com with your zipcode and here is what I found:
    Atamian Honda Volkswagen
    150 Main St
    Tewksbury, MA 01876
Distance from you – 8.7 Miles Map It
    Your dedicated contact(s):
    Bill Goulette, Jessica Lima
    (978) 851–4356
    goulette@atamian.com
    Invoice Price: $22,223 as configured
Dealer Price: $625 below Invoice including incentives

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Your Price: $21,598

Atamian Honda Volkswagen has many new Honda CR-V vehicles in inventory, all priced at $625 below invoice. Your Price Certificate protects you on all these vehicles.

This Dealer's Documentation Fee is $299

This deal is $625 UNDER invoice and that's about the same as my deal. I paid $75 documentation fee in New York state....not the $299 they are asking. I would offer $21,598 plus a $75 doc fee. The $21,598 includes destination.

Okay, I've got to get some things done. Hope this helps.

As far as 2010 left overs there will not be a next model until summer 2011, there will be 2010's for awhile.

    Any source to prove that?

Honda has been releasing new model year in September and Acura's in April for as long as they sold in the US. Honda stops production of current model year in July for retooling and upgrades to the factories. Manufacturing resumes in August with new model year designation.

I think you are mistaking the new generation with new model year. Gen 4 will be released in September/October 2011. Gen 4 will be a redesign of the current Gen 3.5.

The biggest discount can be achieved when buying the outgoing generation, but, like OP stated, he/she is not interested in waiting until Gen 4 hit the lots.

The next best thing is to get the "last year's" model, which with Honda happens in September.

In June I wanted to buy a CRV LX AWD in the Albany NY area. There are five dealers within a 30 mile range. I went to cars.com and got prices from all five dealers. Three were a little high about $21,766 + DMV fees. Another came in at $20,995 + DMV fees--which is less than dealer cost. In face, my deal was less that this figure. My suggestion to you is through Edmunds find all the Honda dealers within a distance that you would be willing to travel to to finalize a deal. Then go to a site like cars.com and see what price you can get from these dealers. If there are some differences in the prices, then you have some wiggle room to try and get the price even lower. I think the Edmunds TMV price is high. On truecar.com or similar site try to get a price as low as possible in the "great price" range.

    Hey Fellas,

Try the American Express through ZAG car buying program, Am-Ex/Zag has way better discount pricing than the Overstock.com, see for yourself. Here's the Link, compare the two, you'll see.

    Link-->>> http://amexnetwork.zag.com/main.html

GOOD LUCK...!! Print out the your page after options, and take into dealer.

Hi, I live in Michigan and got the following offer to purchase the car. Just want to know if this is a good deal based on your experiences.
MSRP 30525. They are willing to sell it for 28300 plus I would have to pay taxes and title and license fee. The out the door price is for 30298. Is this a deal I should do? Also do you think this price is to high for a car like this. My wife really likes this car, because she is small and has trouble seeing over most hoods but this car she can see over the hood. She also likes the feature of the bluetooth. Whoever has time to respond, I would greatly appreciate it.
  • roberta47roberta47 Member Posts: 9
    Hi,
The American Express through ZAG gave me the exact same price as truecar.com. It even looked the same with the exact same format. Overstock had the same format too but today overstock said there weren't any cars in my zipcode area.

I already bought a 2010 CRV EX 4WD last Friday. I was just trying to help the person who was thinking about an '09 fleet car.
Thanks for the link...it's another resource people can use to research a good price!

AWESOME....AMERICAN EXPRESS WAS THE STARTING POINT.. you can start lower and work your toward that number...good luck...

The dealer (Fletcher Jones Honda, Chicago) asked for $30,178 and he accepted my offer of $30,000 immediately OTD for 2010 CR-V EX-L 4WD with navigation. I live in a small town and the lowest quote I had was $30,895 OTD. So I thought $30,000 would be a good deal.

I think in big cities, a dealer can give you a better deal because of volume sale. I feel the dealer would have accepted even slightly lower than $30,000 if I had negotiated.

    Good luck in your purchasing.
  • crvdude1crvdude1 Member Posts: 47
"Fletcher Jones" is a joke. If you got the V already, then good for you.
Don't take it back for service. Go elsewhere.
Read horrible stories about them here:

crvdude, I just hope your small town Honda dealer stays in business while losing sales to the big city dealers. Because of beating up the small town dealers over a couple of hundred bucks a lot of them are dropping the niche brands and only sell the Big Four cars or if all they have is Honda, they are shutting their doors. It happened to us here in a rural town. had to get rid of the Honda or drive 90 miles for warranty service. Always had to wait for parts from the big city dealers. At this rate all that will be left are the megadealers that can afford to give their cars away because they know that they will get your service business. But, I guess that is the free market. :):):):)

    Hello,
I have been receiving several price quotes from dealers for a 2010 black Honda CRV EX-L 4 cyclinder 4 wheel drive ranging from $26200 to $27000. I got 3 different quotes from 3 different salesmen belonging to the same dealer; $27000, $26300, $26200.
I live in Erie PA and am planning on going to Cleveland Heights to buy my car since the local dealers in Erie PA did not give me a good quote. Anyone out there have recent experience buying a similar car or any suggestions on how much room I have for negotiation?
Any help would be appreciated! This is my first time buying/negotiating on a new car.
    Thanks
    V

If you are driving to Cleveland, try Rick Case Honda in Euclid. I just leased a 2010 EX 2WD and the price they gave me was way below everyone else. I emailed them the vehicle I was looking for and did all the negotiating thru email and over the phone. Just went in, test drove and signed the paperwork, no problems.

Just got a quote from Open Road in Edison, NJ of $27,720 plus tax, tags and doc fee. 4wd EX with nav. Seems like an excellent deal

I was wondering what people thought would be a good deal for a 2004 EX with 70k on it and new tires and a new battery and exterior and interior what I would consider good condition. I have checked edmunds and KBB but I was curious what anyone here thought.

    Appreciate any help

FYI. Honda has announced to our dealership that they will no longer allow dealers to post pricing on ZAG sites (Amex, AAA, Overstock, AOL, truecar, driveyourdream, USAA). They will only show the invoice price.

Than you will have to contact your dealer to see what they are willing to discount from that invoice.

I guess corporate is afraid of posting all these extremely low prices on line that it may hurt residual values.

Of course any Internet Manager can email you or call you with a price. Honda simply doesn't want them posted online.

It's not neccesarily a bad thing. It simply will help the resale of Your Honda!

at least that's what they've told us here. I work at one of the Largest Volume Honda Stores in the Eastern Seaboard.

I just bought my very first Honda, my very first CR-V, and my very first SUV. I've wanted a Honda CR-V for about 8 years. My 1997 Ford Escort just cracked its engine block a few weeks ago and I knew I'd only get a couple of weeks more out of it.

I was planning to buy the CR-V next March, but circumstances forced my hand early. I pick it up on Monday night. Took them a week to get my color, in fact, no dealers in a 50 mile radius had the car I wanted.

I bought the CR-V EX AWD in Tango Red Pearl. Saw it in a parking lot a few months ago and fell in love with the color since they don't make the Green Tea anymore.

Anyway, after reading here and looking at Edmunds and CR, I got it for 23,850 (includes destination). My target price was $23,680 and I almost made it. If my Escort hadn't died on Tuesday, I probably could have wrangled a bit more, but I'm satisfied with that price. I live in Eastern PA.

Hey guys , just got my new 2010 lx model awd at chicago's carr's Honda , so happy , I was at the bargaining table for 20 whole minutes.
    My final price was $20,789 + destination fee of $780 = $21,569
the deal also comes with 2 free oil change vouchers , free wheel locks , and free splash guards .

I was considering the 2 wheel drive model but went for the all wheel drive since an suv is just not an suv without Awd + winter is a nightmare .

You're not very bright are you? You pay for what you get , not everybody get as good as a deal as others but let's not forget that it's a Honda , ever heard of " utilization "? Can a $20k car do the necessary job that a $50k car can do? Pretty much yes . If you want luxury then who's stopping you ,go for an mdx at $40k + , or if don't want to " over pay" then go for a Kia sportage I'm sure they will give you the deal of a lifetime

Just bought my first honda cr-v yesterday in southern ct. Silver metallic which was the color I was looking for. I paid $26,330 plus tax & lic. The dealer threw in a free roof rack, a rear deck protection insert and door guards 2 plus free oil changes. I had shopped around in Ct. and R.I. and this was as good a deal as I found. I think I did ok and got the car i was looking for. I wasn't in the dearer ship for more than an hour in total..

We just bought a 2010 CRV LX-4WD for $25,758 OTD price from Route 22 Honda, Hillside, NJ. The price include NY tax, remote start, rear camera & splash guards. However inorder to get 1.9% interest rate for 60 months with excellent credit, Route 22 Honda forced us to pay another $1500 dollars. (Total price $25,758 inclusive this $ 1500). I believe they fooled us. Would like to know is there any relation between $ 1500 and 1.9%. Is price justified ? All comments appreciated and welcome.

How much did you get off MSRP before taxes and fees etc.

MSRP = X (including dest fee and any dealer add ons)
Price paid = (excluding tax, fees and stuff)
  • hennshenns Member Posts: 2
MSRP was $27,725 destination fee was $780 for a total of $28,525. I paid $26,330. Then the dealer gave me $500 of free options ie: roof rails and rear deck protection mat, door guards. So that would be $2195 off of the MSRP with the destination charge. Then I would add the $500 in dealer options that he thru in so I guess I would say it was $2695 off of the sticker ... Are my calculations correct? Did I get a good deal?
Has anyone opted for the Simonize Glass Guard protection? It lists for $795 and he was trying to sell it to me for $495. I still have the option of returning and getting it applied but so far I am not thinking I will do it. Any experience with it???

But I was fooled by the dealership that inorder to get 1.9% interest, I have to pay another $ 1500 dollars to the bank (total $25758), which I did for an excellent credit. Can any one tell me that is there any relation between $1500 and 1.9%. If not, please do not be fooled by the dealership.

    I just purchased a 2010 CR-V LX 2wd

I decided to finance the vehicle and was able to get 1.9% and used the equity from my 2007 Honda Cr-V lease as a down payment.
The sales price for the Cr-V was 20,828.16 and they gave me 13,750 as a trade allowance giving me 2143.53 for the vehicle ( I owed 11,606).
    The Doc fee: 55
    Tax: 1827,28
    License/Fees: 365.75
All together the amount financed was 20,932.63 for a monthly payment of 365.99

I was just wondering if this was a good deal, I am pretty happy seeing as most leases you are upside down.

Warning about Bel Air Honda in Maryland:

I put down a large down payment on my CR-V. Bel Air Honda deposited my check twice - once electronically and then they sent it in. I was debited twice for the same check and out $5000 until the bank could reverse the double-deposit. When I complained to them they demanded proof before they would even offer to give me back my money. They could not care less about the dis-service.
