Does anyone know if the seats in an XLT regular cab (2000 F-150) can recline as far as the ones in the XLT supercab ? If they can, I will probably go for the regular cab to get a shorter WB and overall length.

Does anyone know who makes/sells the black tubular cab steps? I don't want to pay the dealer for those if I can avoid it. Thanks.

First time user, I own a '99 F-150 XLT 4X4 Super cab, and it is the best truck ever bought. The only thing that squeeks is the divers door to the 4th door fit, put a little petroleam gelly and all ok. The trucks handling is the best, let go of the wheel and it stays straight fro about 200-300 feet.

Turned in the lease on my 97 F-150 X-cab 4X4 and bought a 99 flareside reg cab 4X4. The ride in my 97 was 10 times better. Very smooth and car like. My 99 is much more bumpy. Is this due to it being a reg cab? Or a flareside (fiberglass bed)? If someone has a thought or solution, let me know. Thanks.

Own a 2000 F150 XLT 4x4 for one month now. Noticed two slight door cracks underneath the window trim/weather stripping under drivers window. The paint has raised up but has yet to crack itself. Dealer claims to be mystified but sent me to a body shop who claims to have fixed a similar problem just two weeks ago. The fix is to replace the door once they determine that the crack is in fact in the metal. Has anyone else been plagued with door cracks along the window? If so please let me know what you have done about it or how it was resolved. Thanks.

Bought my Lariat 1 1/2 months ago, had less than 2000 miles on it. I started it this past weekend and there was an awful sound of metal on metal. Called the dealership and had it trailered back to them. They said they hadn't seen this happen in 15 years. They said there was no way it could be a frozen engine and called the next day and said it was a dropped valve and that we were right. The engine is being sent back to Ford and we are getting a new crated engine. The loaner car is an Escort that is so low to the ground I can hardly get in and out of it but at least I have one. The dealership was totally cooperative and apologetic for our problems. We are happy with their service. Any one else heard of this problem? I have recently heard of 1 other similar situation with a lariat. My engine was a 5.4 with the 3.55 gear.

I bought my 1999 F150 5.4L Lariat SC 4x4 in May 1999. At 7000 miles, the engine dropped a cylinder. I was initially told that the spark plug broke, which went through the piston. However, I talked to the technician at a later date, and he told me that the timing chain broke. Anyway, after 3 weeks in the shop, got my truck back with a new 2000 engine. I feel that the dealership did a good job with the engine swap. However, I do have some issues. The engine idles rougher than my 1999 engine, there is a faint whistle, the accelerator pedal vibrates at 65MPH, power steering is leaking fluid, and the transmission slips at times. I also have a notchy feel when turning, and the front end sounds like it is binding. Hopefully, the dealership can resolve these issues at the next service. At this point, I am really upset with this truck. Ford has NOT been helpful. I am seriously thinking about trading it off for something else. Given the fact that the other known problems (cracked doors, etc)are just waiting to happen sometime in the future. I feel that the Quality is Job 1 should be changed to Quantity is Job 1. BTW, my truck has the 3.73 gear.

Can a few of you share what kind of gas mileage you are getting? I've read where one guy is getting 15 around town, 20 on the highway. I have the 2000 F-150 SC 5.4l, 4x4, Off-road, AT. I'm getting about 12 around town, 15 on the highway. I've only got about 1500 miles on it so far. Is this what I can expect or will it improve one the engine is "broke-in"? Thanks.

1999 F-150 SC 5.4L, 4x4, Off-road, AT. Sounds a lot like yours, huh? 14K miles. I typically get 15 and 18 mpg. Getting better as the weather warms up. I believe that some areas use a special winter blend of gasoline (I believe to keep the fuel from freezing, anyone correct me if I am wrong) and this gas usually gives less mpg. As winter leaves, expect to pick up a mpg or two. My mileage got better as it broke in too. If you want to further increase your mileage, try a tonneau cover. I got one (~$150 from Ford Dealer) and it increased mileage another 1 or 2 mpg. I don't have it on now, though, and my last fill up, 16 gallons, all city was 15 mpg.

I ahve a Y2K F-150, Super Cab Sport 4X4, SB, 5.4L, Auto 3:55LS, Tonneau Cover about 7600 miles and usually see high 15's to low 16's. I live in Colorado and all my travel is high altitude. I make a round trip to Denver each week, start at 8400 feet, go over 10,000 foot pass, down to about 9400, for about 40 miles, another 10,000 foot pass, down to about down to, 7,000 up to 8,000 and finally down to 5280 (Denver) then three days of city driving. Then the reverse trip, total round trip is 212 miles.(Not counting City) For the whole time I usually see about 15.8 or a little better, and some in the winter is in 4X4. My experience with teh 5.4L is the gas mileage gets somewhat better after 10,000 miles. It did on my 97 F-150, same config as my Y2k and also on my 98 Expedition. Good Luck

Thanks to Scott and Bob for the info. I'm hopeful that after awhile I will see the 15 around city. I've been very conscience as to not "step on it" trying to conserve fuel. That's not even helping. Besides my configuration as listed in remark #169, I have the 17" tires. Could that also be a factor? Your comments are appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Hoping in Seattle, aka, Ron

Maybe you should have got a 4.6 V8 so you could "step on it"?
  • bobh12bobh12 Member Posts: 140
    I have 17" tires also.
  • smcpherrsmcpherr Member Posts: 114
Me too. (17" tires, that is...)

14.4 mpg. I have a Y2K F150 with the 4.6L, 5-speed manual and ORP. I usually average about 13.5 mpg. I do mostly city driving, but I think the primary culprit behind the poor mileage is me. I have owned mostly manual trans 4-cylinder vehicles the past 16 years and it's difficult to break the habit of shifting at higher RPMs.

Is it true that the spark plugs on the Triton V-8 engines are located under the valve covers ? Ford says the plugs are good for 100,000 miles ("because they are platinum ", I was told). I don't see the logic behind that assertion, and would want to check them at no more than 50,000 miles. Am I too skeptical ?
  • bobh12bobh12 Member Posts: 140
I don't beleive they are "under" the valve covers, but I do know they are extremely hard to get to and change. A freind of mine changed his on his 97 5.4L at about 50,000 and said it made quite a difference. He said it takes a long time, a lot of feeling around and various extensions and universals.

someone posted on F150online.com that jacobs ignition says there is no reason to updrade your system on the 5.4 because it has one of the best systems in the world.

Thanks,bobh12, for that info on plug accessibility for the F-150 Triton V-8 eng. It must be a bit more of a nitemare on the vans with those Tritons.

    First post!
Is the 7700# payload option needed for the 8000# trailer capacity, or is this simply an option to increase the actual pickup truck payload?
I'm looking so as to pull about 6000# TTrailer.
    Thanks - denis

I recently had my 99 GMC Sierra bought back due to a vibration problem that could not be fixed. I owned a Ford previous to that for 12 years and did not have any serious problems. I just bought a '00 XLT supercab w/4.6L, auto, 3.55 limited slip, tow package, 255/70/R16 and the 5-spoke alum. wheels. I've only got 1200 miles on it so far but I really like the truck. Even with the tow package (heavy duty shocks, etc.), the ride is much better than the GMC. The Ford has plenty of power, shifts smoothly, and best of all, no vibrations, rattles....(so far). The GMC definitely had more get up and go and had plenty of power for pulling. But a truck with the shakes and a service dept. that really stunk did not persuade me to buy another one.

Keep an open mind. Who knows, you might really like the Ford. I personally believe it is a good product. Good luck and keep us posted on what happens.

    I'm Looking at the 5.4 V-8
Kelly says that auto trans. is N/C but ford charges for it.
Kelly says over head console for XL with convenience Group but Ford says it is it's not there.
    Any help would be appreciated.
  • g8trg8tr Member Posts: 77
is an option on the XL's. I have seen some on the lot. As for the NC on auto., that might be possible if you're looking at a Lariat. All other models get charged for it.

Kelly E-mailed and said that they are updating the info- at midnight 07 April 2000.
It's been a lot of help reading thru all the advice given in this forum. I'm ready to order!

The PICKUPS Conference has gotten WAY too big....

it is unwieldy to manage, and difficult to use for "newbies". There is entirely TOO much topic duplication, so I will be doing some SERIOUS topic consolidation in the next few weeks, getting us down to not more than 2-3 topics per vehicle type, and ultimately down to 200 topics or less.

THIS weeks consolidation candidates are: F-150's, Silverado's, Dakota's, and Dakota Crew/Quad cabs.

In that vein, please consolidate this F-150 topic to Ford 150 Lightining and continue these discussions there.

    Thanks!
