    87 - $0.979 - up 2 cents
    89 - $1.079 - up 2 cents
    93 - $1.159 - up 2 cents
    94 - $1.259 - up 2 cents
    diesel - $1.119 - up 2 cents

    87 octane went up to $1.09 today as I was driving in the station. Changed by $.01 so really can't complain. The $1.08 was the lowest price that we saw here in town, would've been nice to see it under a buck though! Still, the price is ok by me.

    Stll getting gouged up here in Alaska @ $1.42 for 87. If you want higher octane just leave your wallet, pin # and your first born son at the window.

    Hubby filled up the Dodge yesterday @ Fred Meyer, and 4 gas cans so he can drive the darn thing for more than a couple days. Cost $88.......OUCH!!!

    Gotta go see Susan again, she greats me like an old friend now. The t-case in the Dodge is leaking and is almost impossible to get out of 4WD.

    Cheapest 87-1.08. Cheapest major- Chevron-1.11, 1.21, 1.31 for the three grades-87, 89, and 92. Why can't we get better than 92 here??

    I just paid $1.159 for 87 at an Amoco (actually, in Prospect Heights, a suburb). I try very hard to buy gas in the burbs or anywhere but the city of Chicago, we have more tax than just about anywhere.
    I like that we've had $1.15-1.30 gas consistently for a few weeks though.

    92 premium at Costco and my neighborhood Aloha Petroleum is now $1.559, while most of the other self-serves (Tesoro, Chevron, etc.) hover around $1.729. This is around $0.30 - 0.40 less than the summer of '01.

    BUT, ....... the state had a price-fixing/gouging suit against the refineries for $2.0 billion, but settled last month for a paltry $20M (a penny on the dollar). The lawyers got around 30% and the state kept the rest for the highway fund. We consumers who were "over-charged" at the pump year after year get ZILCH! No price adjustments at the pump for even a day! I told you that this place is a "Banana Republic" as far as the local government goes! Now that we have "hurricane insurance" available, this same bunch is refusing to give back the surplus in the hurricane fund to us homeowners who paid into it. They want our money to disappear into the state general fund.

    OK now that isnt right, oil has to be shipped 3000 miles to Hawaii and you are paying les for gas than I am in Alaska where we have more oil than we know what to do with? Up here we are paying $1.429 for 87 and $1.62 for 92.

    Lariat1, but don't forget, you guys get the yearly rebate of about $1,800 per person from the pipeline fund. That has to mean something!

    Our "normal" prices are at least $0.10 - 0.15 per gallon HIGHER than your $1.429 (87) and $1.62 (92). You should see the prices on our neighbor islands, which exceed $2.00/gallon for premium. And, no rebates of any kind, but they sneak increases in fuel taxes.

    I would give back the permanent fund right now if the iol companies would match the low 20% price range for gas in the US. Up here we are always paying $.20-$.40 above the national average for gas.

    Lariat1, if buy 30 gallons a week at .40 higher than the rest of us... you are spending only $624 more per year on gas. You still come out better taking the "pipeline" refund check. If you are buying less gas you savings is even more.

    No rebates here, nor an ocean to cross and still $1.47 for 87, the same since my last post, go any direction (except west) for cheaper prices. CFN prices are usually 10-15 cents less

    Our "refund" is actually a dividend. Back when the oil companies wanted to take the oil out of Alaska the people passed a law and put it into the stste constitution saying that a small percentage of oil revenue that is paid to the state will go into the "Alaska Permanent Fund" this was back in 1975 now the investments that make up the fund make more than the oil revenue. The residents of Alaska are paid a yearly dividend out of that fund.

    Lariat1, no matter what you call it, I wouldn't want to give it up for a little cheaper gas prices. I understand now that Alaska is in the red and may consider cutting off the dividend check. A lot of people have become used to recieving the checks and it will hurt letting it go.

    I was up touring Alaska in '97 and thought you guys have the most beautiful country up there. I still don't understand permafrost and how it affects your home foundations... but, I guess that's for another thread.

    Our local brand, Aloha Petroleum, is now selling 87 Regular @1.449; 89 Plus and 92 Premium @1.479 at my neighborhood mini-mart. A nearby station must be having a roll-back at the same prices.

    Others are still @1.729 for 92 Premium ..... or higher.

    Most places have regular (87) for about $1.30. The cheapest I've seen in the city is at this tiny little indy station called 'Smith' (it has two pumps, with non-digitized numbers). Regular there is $1.209.

    The four grades of gas are STILL unchanged from post 703 back on Jan 10 - diesel is down 2 cents to $1.099 from Jan 29.

    Here on the north side (usually the most expensive), gas at the 'majors' is generally around:

    $1.279 (87 octane)
    $1.369 (89 octane)
    $1.459 (93 octane)

    The lowest I've seen for 87 is about $1.179.

    The Amocos were the same at something like 1.07, 1.16 and 1.24.

    Still hanging out at $1.46 for 87 up here in Alaska this summer ought to be wonderful I figure $1.55 in the city and $2.00 outside the city.

    Anchorage is $1.36 for 87 and $1.25 for diesel. Just got back from there last night, the parks hwy is horrible most of the way.

    Anchorage prices are like this as of today:

    Texaco(Corner of Ingra and 15th) 1.349. For 87.

    All Chevrons,Williams, and Tesoros are 1.39 for 87.

    Angie, also look at what you're driving and the conditions now. We always use 4x4 so that eats up gas, Anchorage traffic is mostly stop and go so that eats up gas. The upside is everyone goes a bit slower so that saves gas!.

    Can't wait for the summer 2wd here I come. No ice or snow, just heaven. But I would expect the price to climb 10 cents or so just for the fact it is summer. But considering we have trucks with over 300 mile ranges in the city that is good.

    Ed: What is your gas milage from here to Fairbanks??? Just curious...\

    And Angie, That Jeep is good, but not for me. Right now I have a rented Montero XLS. I hate it. I want my Silverado back. But hitting a snowbank dosen't help does it??? LOL. What do you get out of that 5.7 in your truck??? Or do you have the v6?? 4x4 or the AWD one??

    My Jeep has the 6-cyl and gets about 20 mpg on the hwy and 17 mpg in the city. Its great on the roads. I have the select trac system and just leave it in full time 4wd all winter, its kinda like awd. We also have a 2001 Dodge Ram 3/4 ton with the 5.9L V-8, it gets about 13 mpg on the hwy and 12 mpg in the city, not a lot of difference between the two, horrible either way. Can't wait for the new Cummins to come out next year, we are buying one no doubt about that.

    The 2003's are gonna be great. I think ballpart figures say 555 foot lbs tourque/255 Hp somethig like that. More than the Duramax, but less then the new Cat's coming out in the 250's and 350's. Just don't buy from Anc Crysler/Dodge they are a rip-off. Lithia is the best for deals. Pay just bought a 2001 3500 Extended cab cummins dually SLT for 30K. 50 miles on it, but hey... Yeah, thats one thing I never likes about the dodge 5.9 the gas mileage. My Chevy gets about 16 city 19 highway. 5.3 vortec. But I tend to go slower than everyone elso!... Also where do you live the Valley??? Just curious. Or are you in Fairbanks??

    I live near Fairbanks. We will only buy from Anchorage Chrysler, they have been more than wonderful to us. We bought the Jeep and the Dodge there in November, got great deals on both and good numbers on our trades. Course it helps that I know the saleslady, bought a Jeep from her when she was in Fairbanks in 1996. My dad just bought a 2001 Dodge 3/4 ton Cummins from them on Friday, he got a great deal too. We are waiting for the more powerful Cummins before we buy one, supposed to be 305 hp and 555 lb/ft of torque with the 6-speed manual.

    Now just to stay on topic, I can't understand why Fairbanks is so high for diesel, its 1.43 vs. 1.25 in Anchorage. Oh well, as long as gas and diesel don't go any higher.

    even though I do work in the industry... I would look at the future of Diesel and decide if that's they way you want to go... By 2005 the sulfur restrictions are going to be bad... You think 1.40 is high.. Try more like 2-225 a gallon.. Is the increased torque worth it?? But then again I never know how much regular 87 is going to be in 2005.. For me, I love Diesels but for me I would probably go with the Vortec 8100. But I don't know what the future will bring... Wouldn't mind a 3500 Duramax though... But diesel does have the range... And to answer your question... I guess supply and demand.. How many people have 2500s and 3500 diesels up there???

    It seems like most of the 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks on the roads in Fairbanks are diesels. Its more rare to see one with a big block gas. Guess time will tell, maybe we will hold off on buying a diesel until 2005. I hate to buy one and see diesel prices hit $2.50 a gallon.

    If I keep the truck under 62mph I get about 17-18 if I get over 62 I get 14-15. Normally I take the Grand am to Achorage though I can round trip with the grand am and it uses the same amount of gas as driving the truck one way.

    Just got gas last night and was surprised....

    Down to:

    1.37 for 87....was 1.42
    1.57 for 90....was 1.62
    1.37 for diesel....was 1.42

    Not much but at least its going down.

    however, in neighboring Bellefonte, I saw a stange set of gas prices. Three stations, two side by side on one side of the road with a third station across the street. $1.13 and $1.17 in the side by side stations, with $1.11 in the solo station across the street. Any idea WHY the station with the $1.17 price was the only one with any cars filling up??? :)

    The gas prices went up 20 cents overnight, everywhere, every grade.

    Luckily the local Shell raises their prices first. I was lucky enough to get gas at 1.09 at the Meijer the night before they raised the prices..

    Prices are anywhere from 1.269 to 1.299, 1.369 to 1.399 and 1.449 to 1.499.
