That is where it fit and it is close to the fuel tank. The carbon canister is in a similar location on my Dodge Ram.

I want the duals too. Maybe the black box can be relocated. But I wanted to tell everyone that I drove home a company car today, a 2003 Malibu. It is nowhere close to being as silky smooth and quiet as my Verona. It has about 35,000 miles pn it and it feels like 135,000. I couldn't believe the difference. It make me love my Verona all the more. The one thing I did like about it though was the radio. It has the feature that shows the name of the song and the artist. And I know this is the standard radio because my company is too CHEAP!!! to have upgraded it. But anyway if anyone does install the dual exhaust, please let us know what is involved. Thanks.

Drove one rental first (modern) generation 'Bu and it's truly a horrible car. Less useful room than my 01 Elantra. My 05 Maxx is a car I enjoy more and more. Looked hard at a number of Suzuki (Japanese and Daewoo) cars before buying. I wish Suzuki the best.
  • beetonebeetone Member Posts: 3
When you state that Suzuki is not allowed to sell the Verona “here”. Where are you referring to? Not Canada, presumably. I purchased my Verona about six months ago from my local Suzuki dealer in Ontario - and it has run faultlessly since.

I have almost 3000 miles on my new 2004 Verona. So far no problems. I keep waiting to take it in for the brake light recall figuring that something will come up. So far nothing. As I have said before, it is a great car. No stalling or starting problems. I find the accelleration more than adequate. I love the high torquey feel of the I6.

For about the last 1500 miles I have kept track of the milage. It running about 23.5 mpg in mixed driving. I am going to change to synthetic real soon. I want to see if it does affect the mileage.

I have a theory that mileage could be a little low due to high oil viscosity. It takes forever to throughly heat, and thus thin, 7 qts. of oil. It may never make it at very low temps. I purchased Quaker State. It has a lower viscocity at low temps. I will report.

Yes synthetic oil does improve the fuel consumption. I changed to quaker state synthetic myself 2 years ago, and I have been getting better mileage with my 2.2L Daewoo Leganza than my sister in law is getting from her Honda Civic.
Not to mention the engine will run quieter and smoother, plus start better in extremely cold weather. We had a few days of -40 degrees celsius this winter and it was no problem starting my car after sitting all day outside in that temperature.

    Hi,
After 9000 miles and a recent mass air flow sensor replacement, the Verona rides smooth and without any problems. I replaced my wipers with bosch excel. They are good. I will be changing oil soon and am filling Mobil-1 synthetic (5W30). Will let you know the details. I have noticed a bacteria build up on the AC condensor by the smell. After you switch off the AC and just operate the fan, you get a bad musty smell. On operating the blower fan the smell subsides when the AC coils dry off. Is there any way you can kill this smell other than the blower? Any spray? etc?. I would also like to know if your dealers strictly follow the maintenance schedule items as stated on the user manual. For example..for severe driving conditions..the manual recommends flushing the brake fluid and refill through the lines at 7500 miles. My dealer tells me that this will be costly and because the brake fluid was still good this was not needed.
There are similar items. What do you feel on this members?
    Will keep you posted.

:shades: Now my Verona has tinted windows, thanks to a large jackpot I won at the casino. It looks wonderful and is much more pleasurable to drive without the glaring sun. When I went for the brake switch recall, the dealer inspected it and said I already had the "new" style switch so they put the recall sticker inside the driver's door and that was it. For your a/c smell, try mixing up some liquid laundry detergent, half and half with water and pour it down the air intakes under the windshield. Leave it in there for a while then wash it out with the garden hose. If you can get the odor to stop you are going to have to start cutting off the compressor switch about 5 minutes before you get home to prevent it from happening again. Of all my friends and family, my car is the only one that dosen't have the odor and I am the only one who cuts the switch and lets it dry out. I've done it since it was new so the odor never got started. Loving my Verona.
    Good luck to all.
  • rasuprasup Member Posts: 136
Hey thats great!!!. Did you win big??. Are tinted windows legit?. What are the rules?. Can you clarify which area are you talking about when you say " air intake under the windshield". Is it the meshed area where water and snow usually drains out?. As suggested I do cut off the air a short while before I reach a place and also have the blower on without the AC. This helps a bit but the smell returns after I use the AC again. Will replacing the cabin air filter help?
    Thanks
  • dkuhajdadkuhajda Member Posts: 487
FYI if you notice poor radio reception now, the tint needs removed from the rear window as it is a metallic based tint and the radio antenna is integral in the rear window. Or you can have an external fender mount antenna mounted to the car. There is a service bulletin for this issue, some window tint does not contain the metallic base, some does. It will not be covered under warranty if this is the issue.
  • ccbloome61ccbloome61 Member Posts: 35
Yes the air intake is the meshed area, just below wipers. I hope this works for you. The window tint is legal, for my area it has to have 35% visibility from the outside. I don't think your cabin filter is causing the smell, but it might not hurt to change it when you try to flush out the system. (btw the jackpot was 5G)
    Good Luck
  • ccbloome61ccbloome61 Member Posts: 35
Yes I have noticed some loss in radio reception. The stations that were really clear before are still good, but any that were borderline are now poor. I listen to c.d 99% of the time, so I think I will just leave things as they are, I can't dream of a fender antenna being on there and since I don't use the radio much It will be O,K.
    Thanks for your reply

Did anyone else get free oil changes for as long as you own the car, or is this just my dealer? Anyway I doubt they will put in the synthetic oil for me. Maybe I could just pay them the extra charge. If it gave extra mpg it would be worth it. With my 120 mile round trip commute everyday the miles are adding up fast. 18,000 so far and thank GOD the oil changes are the only thing I have brought it in for. Yes I do love my Verona. By the way, I am addicted to driving fast (I wanted to say speed but I thought you might get the wrong idea) so the synthetic oil may help. I was finally caught a couple of days ago by a trooper doing 89 in a 70. He told me I was lucky because 1 more mph and my fine would have been doubled. It is $172.00 as it is. But with the Verona, it is so smooth and quiet, I didn't realize I was going that fast. And the trooper was so fascinated with my car that he wasn't even really mad. He said this was the first Verona he had stopped and it was a fine looking car. Well I thought I would just share this with everyone.

At Sharkracing.com they have some replacement tail lights and headlights from korea for the Daewoo Magnus. The tail lights are 180.00 set. I am really tempted to order them, they are gorgeous. The head lights and grilles I can do without but those tail lights are just what the Verona needs to add more style to the rear end. If you want to see them just go to sharkracing.com and click on verona at the bottom of the page. :shades:

After posting my last message I drove the Verona to an Indian Casino in Cherokee, N.C. which is 3 hours from here. The Verona was Soooooo comfortable on the ride there, even more so on the way back with the $5400.00 JACKPOT I won. I was only hoping for enough to cover the cost of the tail lights.
They should be here in 3 weeks so I will let you know how they look on the Verona.
My mileage for the trip was 27.5 and it was alot of mountain driving with the air conditioning. :D

The local Suzuki Dealer has some 04 Verona LXs with 13-15k miles for $12,900. The full warranty is completely intact. Is this a good deal? Should I worry about prior life as a rental or perhaps a "buy back"?

No standard sunroof on the LX or I would have already made the leap.
  • rasuprasup Member Posts: 136
    Hi,
sschriber, yes the deals look great. But my suggestion is that it would be wise to check the history sheet especially about the maintenance and recall items attended. Questions like ...was the ECM replaced?. Was any sensor replaced?. What kind of oil was used?. Was it changed frequently?. Does it perform well after all the replacements?.
ccblloom...I washed the car in the air intake area and the smell seems to have subsided. Very good suggestion ccbloom..thanks. I have yet to have a soap/water mix added and wash it. All I did was to use the car wash soap and rinse in that area and that has helped.
    Thank You ccbloom.

    Rasup,

If you need to follow the severe service maintenance and are concerned about the brake fluid, look into synthetic brake fluid. You might be able to flush fluid once and be done with it.

Now my fuel gauge is malfunctioning. I filled it up and it went to full. 1 day later it had dropped by 1/8 and 2 days by 1/4 . I knew that was too fast because I had only gone to work and back. When it said 1/2 tank I filled it up again and it only held 4 gallons. Now 1 day later and about 10 miles and it already is down 1/8 of a tank again. Guess I will have to go to dealer when I get the chance.
  • nace818nace818 Member Posts: 140
Your fuel guage should be an easy fix. However, I know the hassle of having to leave it at the dealer and find a ride to work and then a ride back to the dealer. It's a pain. But I hope you will post a picture of your car once you get the new tail lights installed. I took a look at them on the other web site. They do look pretty good.
  • ccbloome61ccbloome61 Member Posts: 35
The real problem is the dealer is 85 miles away and I can't just take off work, because I am the manager, and no one else is there to do my job. It is really frustrating. The dealer I bought it from was only 30 miles away and only a few months after I bought it Suzuki pulled the franchise from them. I will try to post the pictures when I get the tail lights. I can't wait for them to get here!!

I wonder if anyone can help solve a little argument between me and a friend of mine? He says if I use a higher grade of gas, I will get better mileage. I say the mileage will be the same, maybe just burn a little cleaner. Who is right?
  • bartley7bartley7 Member Posts: 4
I've had my 05 Verona EX two weeks now and 500 miles later I love it. I find the engine has more than enough power for me and it's breaking in better every day. If I have any problems, I will post them. :)
  • csandstecsandste Member Posts: 1,866
octane doesn't measure power, only the tendency/resistance of the engine to knock. Ethanol mixes have higher octane but less energy and get lower mpg.
  • rasuprasup Member Posts: 136
Adding premium , as far as I know will not enhance the mileage. The car may run cleaner and have fewer emissions. Some cars need premium only because of the way they are built for emissions. I don't know if premium gasolines are more "pure" in terms of sediments and solids. You may visit leading gasoline web sites to get more info.
I will be changing to synthetic mobil 1 oil on wed. Verona is running fine, but the gas mileage is not great as I drive in stop and go situations.
  • nace818nace818 Member Posts: 140
Thanks for the info on the gas. I didn't think premium would help the mileage. Now I have another question. I got free oil changes for life with the purchase of my Verona, but when I went in last week I noticed after I left that according to the little windshield sticker that they had put in 10W-30 when the manual states that 5W-30 should be used. Should I make them change it again now or can I just go with it for this time and make sure they get it right next time?

Has anyone had a problem with the window washer pump barely pumping out the fluid ? Thanks.
  • ccbloome61ccbloome61 Member Posts: 35
The owners manual clearly states "under no circumstances should 10 w 30 be used". I would make them change it again.
  • rasuprasup Member Posts: 136
10W30 appears to be the wrong grade for Verona and I agree with ccbloom . The owner manual states clearly this fact. Ask for complete flush out and refill with 5W30 ASAP. It may not be advisable to operate with 10W30. My washer pump is'nt the best: it does not spray luxuriously but seems OK. It seems to just spray enough making the wipers do the work. There is no pan area of spray but it squirts an area in front of the blades. I dont know if this is how all pumps work on the Verona. Can other forum members comment?. Thanks.

The dealer did the same thing with my car. There is a TSE from Suzuki do use 10w-30 for some reason. After doing this change, the car started some lifter knocking especially after going for high speeds of 70-80 mph and then slowing. The dealer said it had nothing to do with the grade of the oil, but I went home and changed back to 5w-30, and the knocking stopped. I recommend you change it to the Mobil 1 Extended performance Synthetic oil as I have. I used to get about 18.5 MPG, and it boosted up to usually between 21 and 22 MPG, and also the cars runs cooler and smoother, and it gives a little more power to you. Don't always trust what the dealer or Suzuki tells you to do, they sometimes are wrong, especially the idiots working at some of these dealers. :)
  • veronaownerveronaowner Member Posts: 88
I had the same problem with the dealer and oil. They used 10W30
and finally realized they made a mistake according to Suzuki and they
changed the oil to the 5W30 at their expense. Needless to say I go
other places now. Has anyone had wheel alignment problems? All except
the left rear was out of alignment and only about 12K miles.
    Veronaowner, Ken
  • nace818nace818 Member Posts: 140
Thanks everyone, I didn't know that the manual states "under no circumstances use 10W-30". I will certainly have it changed ASAP even if I have to do it myself. I just trusted the Suzuki dealer. But this was a new guy in the service department. Anyway thanks again.
  • rasuprasup Member Posts: 136
    Hi,
My first observations after changing over to 5W30 mobil 1 synth.: The car is much quieter, smoother. No Vibrations felt on idling. Its more fun to ride. Looks great so far. I bought the oil myself and asked the dealer to install the oil filter and replace the oil while he did the 18 month check up and service.
    I will keep you posted.

Anyone see the semi disturbing crash test ratings for the Verona? The driver only earned 3 stars, the worst rating out of all 05 models tested. Quite a shame in this day and age. It appears the lower rating was due to higher head and chest injury measures. It looks like Suzuki needs to get more involved in the design of their Daewoo models.

Hello, I have just discovered this great forum yesterday and I am seriously considered to purchase the Chevy Epica which is same as Suzuki Verona under GM's new plan in China. The car has been putting on self in Apr 24,05. The Shanghai Auto show's 1 wk, Epica has sold 1967 cars. Till May 23,05 the total sales of Epica is 3870 in China. The website is www.shanghaigm.com.

I have seen lots of problems and but I don't know if I will make a decision to purchase the Chevy Epica or Volkswagon's Passat in China. Pls give me some idea before I make my final decision next week.

    Thanks,
  • ccbloome61ccbloome61 Member Posts: 35
Last year I totalled my Daewoo Leganza. It also had a poor rating from nhtsa. It is a similar car to the Verona/Magnus/Epica. I swerved to miss an animal in the road and lost control. The car flipped over and I landed upside down in a ditch. I removed the seat belt and when someone came and opened my passenger side door I walked out without a scratch. The roof did not crush in and the seat belts held me tight to the seat. Every window was broken including the sunroof. The passenger area seemed to hold up good to me. Here I am alive. That is why I had no reservations in buying the Verona.

My window washer was barely squirting fluid. It was discovered that one elbow connector tube was cracked. Dealer replaced and it's fine.
  • nace818nace818 Member Posts: 140
As far as my opinion on the Verona/Epica, you will be very happy. I've never driven a smoother running car in my life and I've also owned Lincolns and Cadillacs. The thing is silky smooth. I just rolled on 20,000 miles and it has never been in the shop for more than an oil change.By the way when I took it back because I thought they had put in 10W-30, they told me that thw windshield sticker was wrong and they only use 5W-30. I guess I will take their word for it. But anyway Tom/picro I love mine and hope you will be just as happy with yours if this is what you decide. The only thing I wish is that Suzuki had a few more color choices. I was on some other web site the other day where you could see what your cat would look like in other colors. I definitely would have a bright red one. Well good luck.
  • lngtonge18lngtonge18 Member Posts: 2,228
While its great your Leganza kept you safe in your accident, it's performance there can't be compared to that of the NHTSA's test. Roll-overs don't involve the airbags. The NHTSA rates how well a car's structure, airbags, and seatbelts protect the driver from high forces during a full frontal collision. Apparently, you have a higher chance of sustaining injuries in the Verona compared to other cars in its class. The side-impact test also didn't go well, despite the newly standard side-impact airbags. If Suzuki wants to be more competitive, then they need to make sure their products are on equal ground in safety.
  • brainfertilizebrainfertilize Member Posts: 46
Yeah, I'm also disturbed about the crash-test ratings for the Verona all the way across the board.
But I've already purchased one; I'll just have to make sure I don't get in a crash, eh? With the excellent steering and brakes, I'm pretty sure I can do my part...not much I can do about the other drivers on the road.

This is one thing Suzuki will have to fix to get me to buy a Suzuki on my next purchase.

I have just bought the Cherolet Epica in Shanghai. Before I bought the car, I have been serving through lots of web site in both Chinese and English to understand the background of this car:-
Epica originated from Daewoo's Magnus in 2002. Since then, GM bought the Korea automaker and make some of her models into the Chevrolet's brand name.
The US version is under Suzuki's Verona, the Canandian and European version is under Chevrolet's Epica.

They are similar but not the same. In US or Europe, it has 2.5L 6 cylinder both Stick and automatic shift. In China, it has only 4 cylinders 2.0L sedan automatic.

Before I decide to buy this car, I have chosen Volkswagen Passat, Honda Accord, Toyota Corolla. However, I am very disappointed for the above 4 famous names in China:-
Volkswagon's Passat has both 2.0, 1.8T and 2.8V6 version. The price for 2.0 is 22771US. 1.8T is 25180UD, 2.8V6 is 38554US. 2.0 is within my budget but the details is terrible, SOHC 2 valves engine + manual shift. 10 years old engine is still selling in China from Volks. Might be some of you have not even heard about sohc , single overhead craft engine with only 2 valves instead of the current common 16 valves.

Honda Accord is good but the price is 24096usd which is also out of budget.

Toyota Corolla is the famous car that meets my budget but comes to China with different configuration. The fundermental one is without leather seat and not evan the front reading lamb. The price is 16843usd and the tire has been changed to the R195 one which is awful small because it suppose to be R205. I have seen it remove lots of inside option such as cruise, automatic aircon, sunroof. I like this car but I don't like Toyota have the Chinese version with the price tag as 16843 to 21108.

I heard lots of bad news from Edmund's web site about the Suzuki's Verona and the comment such as "not recommed to buy". However, the cost/performance in China today, Epica is the best of the choice and I decided to take the "risk" to try this car. This is the reason why I choose Epica finally for the price I paid 19927us.

I drove for couple hours since I got the car today. For last 2 hours city drive, the car is quiet, stable, and of course it is not very powerful due to 2.0L 4 Cylinder's hp. However, I am very satisfy for my drive.

I will continue to share my experience if this forum will be kept active about my experience with Chevy's Epica in future.

21,000 miles-DITTO! It continues to get admiring glances. As I was coming out of a convenience store yesterday, I noticed a guy walking around my car and smiling. He said I just had to wait for you to come out so I could tell you how fine I think this car is. Yes it does make you feel good.

Overall I am pleased with my recent purchase of a new '04 Verona. It is fully loaded (well, as fully loaded as a Verona can get). It was the last '04 on the lot and had 359 dealer miles on it so they were eager to sell at a good price.

I am however, having issues with my MPG. I've put 676 miles on it and my MPG average in the city is 15.5 and my average on the highway is 19.5. This is far from the 20 city / 27 highway I was expecting. I try to keep electrical use (except radio) to a minimum...but still poor MPG. With gas at $2.30 a gallon this car will cost me $500 more a year than I expected!!!!

I've read the posts about not using 10W-30 and using 5W-30 oil. But how do I know what kind of oil I currently have in the car?

Any other suggestions on how to get better mileage?
  • kimweigelkimweigel Member Posts: 43
I have an 04 Verona EX just like yours. While it is not a super mileage machine, it should get at least 20-22 mpg. Mine did when new, and has steadily improved with age. I'm now getting 24-25 with 8500 on the odometer. You should check the basics first, and then move on.
    1. Tire pressure OK?
    2. Emergency brake FULLY off?
    3. Driving in D (not 3)!

Electrical use shouldn't affect the mileage. I drive with the air on almost all the time. If it is not one of these basic problems, you should start looking for a sticky brake caliber or a bad O2 sensor. Are you at high altitude?
Once again, the mileage should slowly and steadily improve as your new "tight" engine starts breaking in. Also, my service advisor has told me that many customers reported better mileage after their first oil change. Good luck!

I change to synthetic, Quaker State. I really believe that the car runs better. It seems a little more responsive. I cannot document this in any way. I also notice that it runs a little cooler. Synthetic lowers friction and carries away heat better. That's significant when you have almost as much oil as coolant.

I have also discovered a problem with some gasoline. I was burning Shell regular in it. I began to notice that the engine was hesitating at very low throttle position. I mean like right off the stop. I didn't notice this until after I changed to synthetic. Possible the lowered friction meant that I was now using this position instead of just throttling right past it. I switched to Phillip/Conoco, and it's gone. No mileage figure yet.

As far as oil viscosity, Suzuki has issued a maintenance advisory emphasizing the use of 5W-30 with 10W-40 as the only acceptable alternative. That makes no sense to me, but hey I always use 5W-30 anyway. I have used 5W-30 in other engines for many years, when recommended by the manufacturer. It works fine, and saves gas.

I really like my Verona. I only have 4000 miles on it, but no problems so far. Most of the problems with this vehicle center around the computer software that controls the engine. Suzuki has issued two software updates that seem to have fixed this problem. Also, this problem is unique to the inline 2.5 l six cy. I don't believe that Daewoo installs this engine outside of the North American market.
