    UPDATE

On the way to work Monday the navigation system went out, it had the black screen with the Infiniti logo and a "DISC ERROR" message across the bottom. It was dead all through Monday and Tuesday and mysteriously started working again this morning (Wednesday).

I have become the victim of so many jokes at work that it is pitiful. This thing cost 15-20 thousand more than any of my co-workers cars yet mine is the one in the shop all the time.

    Hi, Deb!

I recommend turning off your caps lock as people tend to ignore messages containing all caps. Sparse and well placed emphasis will attract attention in an appealing manner.

My wife and I just got a new QX56 yesterday. We traded in an 03 NAV that gave us nothing but problems. To list they were: alternator went out at 11K power seat went out, rear a/c went out, door ajar message (which they never fixed), vehicle stuck in park(all electrical and mechanical for the shifter replaced) reverse sensing system went out...twice, power mirrors went out...3 times, driveshaft seal went out, driver and passenger windows had to be replaced, power window motor went out and the brakes went out and rotors had to be replaced. All before 40K miles. So I had my share of problems with the NAV.

We drove all 4 vehicles and initially the QX wasn't on the list. Wife shot down the Denali because it looked too much like a Yukon/Tahoe for the price. We both shot down the Escalade because we felt the price was too high for the features you get. Already had a Navigator and there was NO WAY we were getting another Ford product. The Toyotas and Lexus are underpowered, smaller and in my opinion overpriced. We were just about to settle for an 05 Tahoe(with nav system) when we passed by the infiniti dealer. We were both impressed with the features of the QX vs the price. MSRP on an 05 Yukon with sunroof, nav and autoride suspension was 48,300. MSRP on an 05 QX with sunroof (nav is standard) was 50K. Seemed like a no brainer to us. The QX has reverse parking system with camera, auto liftgate DVD nav AND 6 disc changer. All the GM stuff made you give up the 6 disc for the DVD. Combine that with a 4/60K warranty instead of 4/60 (we drive ALOT) and it was worth the gamble despite the reported problems I' read about. It can't be any worse that what we had with the 03 NAV. Which by the way has a HORRIBLE resale value part of which is due to them being sold at 10K below MSRP. I'll keep everyone posted on any problems.

Best of luck to ya! Been driving mine for a year now and wouldn't trade for anything (and I looked at them all at the Jacob Javits NY car show last week) and yes, that includes the Land Rovers.
    Enjoy!!!

I would stay away from the qx56. I have a 2004 and the problems have been numerous.

The latest brake fix is being advertised as the fix to end all fixes. But so were all the other fixes and they didn't work.

The roof-headliner rattles and vibrations have tsb fixes but they don't work either. My wife and I are tired of riding in our friend's Suburbans and Odysseys that are much older than our infiniti and noticing how the dvd players don't bounce all over the place and rattle constantly. And the qx56 is marketed as a luxury vehicle. These are just a few of the problems, but the shaking and rattling is so irritating.

The saddest part is the infiniti service. The first few times we brought it in they returned it with lines like " the brakes are better than new," and "the roof is 100% solid." Now they bounce back and forth from "it is that way by design" to "can we try an experimental fix on your roof and if it works we will use it on our other qx56s?"

I have rarely brought a vehicle into the dealer to have problems fixed and I have never had to do it twice. infiniti has had my vehicle 5 times and still won't / can't get it right or even close. I have currently waited 2 weeks for them to make an appointment with a dts (district technical specialist) to look at it. And once the appointment is made who know how much longer until the appointment date. It is aggravating.

If anyone is thinking that the quirks have been worked out on the 2005s they're wrong. The infiniti rep said mine, referring to the headliner, "shakes less than the 2005s." My opinion, after driving a 2005 for 1 week during one of the patch up jobs, is that the 2005s shake and rattle less than the 2004s but still far from what a luxury marketed vehicle should. I could have the same ride from a 1999 Suburban for $45,000 less.

    Hi everyone,

Seems Im in the same boat as many others. I have approximately 4800 miles and my brakes started acting up. Took it to the dealer overnight and I was told that the rotors were not replaced but brushed per Infiniti's instructions. I had heard of the brake problems (and asked the salesman) before I purchased but was assured that it wasn't a widespread problem and if it became a problem Infiniti backs its cars 100%. Now im starting to wonder if they have the end-all fix, why are they only grinding rotors? I have yet to pick up my qx56 and im wondering if I should demand that they replace the rotors? My wife drives the qx primarily and with a 7 month old in the car Im not much for risk taking anymore. Anyone have any suggestions or is this common practice?
  • qx bluesqx blues Member Posts: 10
Please have them to replace the rotors. When I picked my qx56 up after the 3rd brake pad replacement, I almost wrecked from the jerking the brakes did when applied. I had to turn right around and take the vehicle back, and they acknowledged they should have replaced the rotors. I must confess, I did get rid of my problem last month (traded that thing!), and while I have questioned if I really should have, I am happy I did. I have 2 children, 6 & 8, and should never second question their safety. Brake issues are safety issues. And after several conversations with the Infiniti Customer Relations and Arbitration, they will only stick to the warranty, meaning replacement everytime....until sometime is seriously hurt, I suppose! Good luck, but remember material things can be replaced, not loved ones! :lemon:

Agree. American SUVs are built horrible. Great drivetrains but terrible fit & finish. Had a $48000 03 Chevy Tahoe Z71 loaded. here's my list of problems the dealer called normal, all before the truck had 10K miles:
    > cracked windshield 1st cold day when using the defroster
    > fuel pump that constantly had a load humming noise
    > 3 of 4 front lenses (2 headlite, 1 marker lite) had water inside
    > flood in front passenger floor every time it rained
    > 3 sensors changed
    > door lock mechanism replaced
    > trans slipped constantly
    > stuck in 4x4 every now & then
    > radio replaced 3 times (1 time at 15K mi)

and not to mention that great Chevy loaner program....the local BUS stop...

all this for a $48,000 truck.....NO LOANER w/ all these problems..oh no wait, I got a loaner once. a Malibu they scraped together, was filthy dirty had 90,000 miles on it and smoked inside and outside w/ CO fumes....

couldnt wait to trade the Z71 in for the QX56. love the Q and we're on our 3rd Infiniti and the service is always excellent....a hard lesson I learned w/ Chevy....check out your dealer's service dept before buying from them....

I thought about the Caddy for a minute, but it was another GM product and your had to pay about $20,000 more (w/tax) than the QX56 to get the same options...The QX was a no brainer....and you get a free loaner....my brother in law has 2 Escalades and has same service issues I had with the Z71...and sometimes he doesnt even get a loaner.what a joke $68,000 for a Caddy and no loaner, typcial GM BS....BUY THE QX and save the $$$ and the headaches you are sure to get with the domestic SUV's
  • mrtommrtom Member Posts: 1
Yes I too have this problem and I think many others. I contacted my dealership and he flat out told me that Infinity is aware of the problem but has not issued a fix. Infact, they are telling their Maintenance people to just stall us with BS information. I emailed infinity HQ today and am awaiting their reply. Please let me know if you get a fix or respond to this from the manufacturer. Beleave me, after spending $50k for a vehical, I am raaaaaaging mad.

I would hope that you read some of the issues that many QX56 owners have had. While I know all vehicles can have issues, these are inexcusbable, and not worth dealing with. I had an '03 Escalade and did have some issues (air condition went out 3 times) but I always had a GM rep to talk with me when I wanted to talk. I always got free loaners, with every make vehicle I've had.
I hope the best for you, and am happy I got rid of my QX56 after owning for about 8 months! :D
  • founderfounder Member Posts: 48
I can't tell you how much i love the QX56. i think it has a lot of features that most here would agree could make it the top in its class, but the refinement issues will prevent this truck from rising to the top. I want an SUV, and i've considered the Navigator, but that truck is is over priced and it doesn't retain its resale value good. The GM offerings like the denali and escalade are have good engines, but cheap fit and finish, and other problems. My freind has the Escalade pick up, which is the ESV i think, and the quality on that truck is mediocre. The moon roof leaked, the truck rattles, water in the tail lights as someone mentioned already i think, i just wouldn't get it, and the Range rover is a lot more then i want to spend and doesn't have enough room I want, and the LX 470 suffers from the same issues as far and room and power goes. I guess i'm going to settle for a car.

Week ago I traded this car. I think I'm still entitled to post here a little warning to potential users. My 2004 QX56 with 14 thousand miles was traded without doubt.

Let me tell you what to expect.

    What's bad:

Headliner vibrates, moves up and down (DVD's almost impossible to watch)

Brakes are horrible (replaced twice). When I noticed that third brake job is coming I decided to trade it (I feel really bad for potential buyer).

    Gas milege 13MPG (it's expected)

Uses Premium gas only to get extra 5-10 horsepower. What kind of idiot at Nissan decided to use premium gas for 6000 lb. SUV)

Rattles and shakes going over rough roads.

Steering wheel shakes and moves left/right going over bad roads. Use both hands only.

    Navigation periodically locks.

    Window Up/Down modules were replaced.

    Sunroof leeking (fixed sort of).

Very load roar under hard acceleration (infiniti says it's sporty????)

Noise from transfer case when using anything but 2WD mode. Now I understand why on test driver dealer asked to keep car in 2WD mode. Try AUTO or 4WD and you notice much more noise coming into cabine.

On chrome wheels I see rust coming thru.

    Third row not split.

    Resale value is horrible.

Paint had some particles (not smooth).

Cheap quality is everywhere (except wood and leather).

Basically this is Nissan Armada with chrome wheels, standard navigation, leather and four pieces of wood (doors and console).

    What's good:
    Good value.

    Excellent powertrain

    Lot's of second row room

    Backup camera

    Good service

Good warranty (you will need it for sure)

The sad part is that I've had only Nissan/Infinitis since 1995. Three Maxima's, FX45 and QX56.

First four were excellent, quality vehicles - maybe becuse they were built in Japan.

I traded FX(year old) because I needed more room. But QX56........ well, buy it and you will know.

Just do me a favor, before you buy QX, go and drive Toyota Sequoia, or LandCruiser.

Infiniti lost loyal customer because of this vehicle - I think it says a lot.

Good luck to all of you and enjoy whatever you decide to buy.

I feel compelled to give to other side of the QX56 story.

I have literally had my Feb.04 built over the rivers and through the woods, along with some beach 4-wheeling for miles. I also use it to tow a 6000lb boat from time to time. I don't have the luxury of another kick around vehicle, so I drive this thing everyday and sometimes all day. I too have had some very minor rattles that were fixed whenever it was time to change the oil (G35x was always the loaner for the repair) and when the QX came back, it was as if nothing was ever wrong to begin with. I just started to feel the brake jutter a couple of weeks ago. It goes in for the 11,500 this Monday and my dealer said they will take care of it then.

No desire to trade this one! But, I would be sick if I had the problems others have had writing in this forum.

    Good luck!

After two months of wanting to buy a Nissan Murano I test drove the QX56 on a whim and fell in love with it. But what's with all the brake problems mentioned on this site? After reading all the comments here I'm reconsidering. Does anyone have any info on what's new with the '06? Has the brake issue been resolved, and will it ever come with the intelligent key like the FX? Any references would be appreciated. I know someone with an '03 G35 and he couldn't be happier. He's always had the best service from Infiniti here in Miami so I'm really excited about possibly getting the QX56. If anyone has info on the '06 QX56 please fill me in.
  • founderfounder Member Posts: 48
I'm not sure of the changes, but i would recommend you steer clear of the QX until all the bugs have been worked up. it's a nice car, but just to many mechanical issues. I think nissan will work out the kinks, and expect some minor changes, but not until 07.

Hi .. I wanted to ask you about the airbag light. I've had my QX56 for 9 months and along with all of the other little quirks "backup sensors replaced, brake rotors sanded once, I noticed the airbag light blinking constantly. I took it in, they had it for 2 days, and then advised me the part was on backorder to fix that light...something to do with the seat belt part? Did you ever get yours fixed? And what did they tell you about it. I've been waiting now for 3 weeks for the "supposed backordered part".

    Thanks alot,
    Mishee

    Mishee:
There was some chatter on the "freshalloy.com" website about mis-adjusted or over/under sensitive switches located on the underside on the passenger seat. I don't think that they are adjustable, so it needs to be replaced.
Quote from the QX-56 Shop Manual:
    "Occupant Classification System Precaution -
Replace control unit and passenger front seat cushion as an assembly."
You may be waiting for a front passenger seat. Good Luck!
Let us know how you do.

J.D. Power's Initial Ratings give the 2005 qx56s the lowest score for Mechanical Quality, Body and Interior Quality, and Overall Quality. So for all who think that buying a 2005 is safe because the first year glitches have been worked out you better think again. Will the 2006s be any good? I would stay away. infiniti claims that after 5 times in the shop that my qx56 performs better than new and they still haven't solved any of the problems (brakes, rattles, squeaks, vibrations, and electrical). Why would 2006 models be any good if they don't know how to fix 2004s and produce good 2005s? It is nice to have polite dealer service, free loaner cars, and a washed car at pickup but when the car isn't fixed because infiniti won't / can't solve the problems being an infiniti owner is embarrassing.

I have posted some very positive comments in the past. In general, we really like the vehicle. However, at around 6000 miles, the vibrations with braking started just as previously described by other forum participants. Also, our fuel gauge was faulty. The service guys at our local Infiniti dealer told us that a new brake rotor was coming in the summer for all the QX56's. I know there has been some skepticism in this forum, but I hope they are telling the truth. They did a temporary fix to the rotors (?shaved/grinded?) and now it is working fine. I have to say I am extremely pleased with the service and attitude at our Infiniti dealer.
  • linkybolinkybo Member Posts: 10
I've got 16k miles on my '04 QX56 and the rotors/pads have been replaced three times and "ground" once. The grinding seems to only last about a month were the new parts have more of a 3 or 4 month time span before the vibrations begin again. My dealer tells me that THIS TIME, Infiniti has a fix. Not bigger or thicker parts but these parts are supposedly made of a different material. Any believers out there?
  • qx56qx56 Member Posts: 69
I owned a 1990 Mercury Villager to which I personally did a complete four wheel brake job. Unfortunately, I used the cheaper imported from China rotors. They warped within a couple of thousand miles. I trued them up and they lasted a couple of more thousand and warped again. I replaced them with good old American high priced parts and end of problem. So, yes it is possible that inferior steel rotors will warp.

I cant believe nissan still has the problem with the car shaking on breaking from 40mph. My pathfinder used to do that all the time(i now have the Lexus LX470). It was so annoying. I also had many rattles in my pathfinder. Wow, and i was considering the qx56 as my next car. I am in no way in the mood for these same nissan(infinity) problems.

Ok, where do I start??? I was really excited when my fiance and I went into the Infiniti dealership, and our salesperson worked out a wonderful "deal" for us! We drove off a week later with 2 new cars: a QX56 and a G35. No problems with the G, but wait until I start with the QX56. The night we picked it up we never noticed the problems with it because it was so dark out.

    Here goes:
    1) the sunroof shade was ripped across the middle
    2) the wood grain trim on the passenger door was MISSING
    3) the mud flaps were cracked
    4) the middle row seat warmer buttons were missing
    5) there was only half a tank of gas in the truck
    6) there were "make $5000 a week flyers in the truck (NO JOKE)
AND FINALLY 7) the SUV squeeked!!! :lemon:

Ok so my point still continues"
We picked up the QX56 in February of this year 2005 and it has been back to the service department 14 times since then. We were told that there is nothing wrong with this truck, that all these problems are normal, and that if we wanted we had the option of calling our service department whenever we have a problem with the brakes (shaking and rattling) and that they would pick the truck up at our home.

By the way, the reason for the shaking and rattling is that they are using cheaper, SMALLER rotors, so that Infiniti can sell more of their defective vehicles to the public, hoping that no one will speak up about it. We have had the brakes repaired 4 times!

Also, our center console (you know, the one that holds the dvd player)completely detached itself from the inside roof of the truck and was hanging by a piece of plastic. Thank God no one was in the truck!!!!

By the way, that is what this junk is made of......PLASTIC!!! If I wanted anything plastic I would have bought some Tupperware!!! :P

And they (Infiniti) think that the general public that buys/leases their vehicles are stupid. Because if they didn't think this, they wouldn't try to make excuses like "that's normal" or "we'll pick it up at your house" or "Recall? Why would there be a recall?" or whatever excuse they can come up with.

I have tried speaking with our salesman, the owner of the dealership, headquarters, but apparently they are defective too!!!!

PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE INFINITI PRODUCTS! Or better yet instead of me telling you what to do...make an educated decision and research a vehicle before you get suckered like the rest of us. GOOD LUCK!
  • misheemishee Member Posts: 4
Has anyone had the brake fix kit installed yet? I had mine done yesterday on my 2004 QX56. I picked the vehicle up today and it drove as if it had something holding the tires back (like driving with your brakes on). I took it back this afternoon and they advised me, after spending 30 minutes with it, that the new brake pads are a softer pad and sits closer to the rotor and within a week or so, the pads should wear down and I shouldn't have that feeling in it anymore. Does that sound right? Fortunately, the dealer and service manager are always very willing to make things right for me.
  • lbinhlbinh Member Posts: 190
That sounds dangerous IMHO. It is almost the same as saying drive with the emergency brakes engaged and it will be ok once it wears down...?? That sounds ridiculous. Sounds like they are incompetent with a smile. I would be careful with brakes sticking and overheating and failing. I let some things slide with the "nice" service people but a safety issue, like your brakes, needs immediate attention.

Think of driving of driving in mountainous roads. Downhill braking too frequently and the brakes overheat and lose their stopping power. That is the reason for lower transmission gears so the engine acts like a brake and drag on your forward and backward motion so you don't overuse the brakes.

I am thinking about whether to purchase a Navigator or QX56. I am definitely leaning to the Navigator although I am a Nissan fanatic. Currently driving a 2001 Pathfinder with no problems.

Thank you to you all who post your QX56 issues and resolution. Please keep it up because the Nissan fanatic in me is still hoping the issues are resolved before I have no choice but to purchase the Navigator.

Well after going to the dealer about 4-5 times i was getting mad a little defeated and upset so i told them straight up that i was going to give them one more chance and if they didnt get the car fixed correctly i will exercise my lemon law rights and contact customer service. So i finally got the Qx back and i was totally blown away, they had done a terrific job no squeaks or rattles the car was dead silent everything was operating as it should and i felt really good knowing that that was how the car is supposed to be all the time now that Infiniti has worked the kinks out of my car i'm enjoying it again. If your going for the Navigator well dont, if you think the Qx has problems you'll probably crap your pants when you see the Navi forum and how bad the car is and the build quality and customer service and how everything quits early in the cars life.
  • lbinhlbinh Member Posts: 190
    Lexusandbimmer,

Thanks for update on your problems.

What year is your QX and where is your dealership that fixed your problems?

What were all of your problems? You did not mention the frequent and seemingly unfixable problematic brakes on the QX even though Infiniti promised fixes since June 2004. You did mention the squeaks and rattles but what was causing them?

Most importantly, what did they do to solve the problem for good? Can you be as detailed as possible?

You are giving me hope for the QX as I am hessitant about the Navigator. Also, I read the Navigator forum and problems are not as numerous as the QX56. Not to say that there will not be but I am in a position of choosing the lesser of two evils. The Navigator being the lesser for now b/c of all the QX56 recurring unfixable complaints.

    Thanks in advance.

How in the world did you get to trade your qx in? Who? What? Where? When? HELP!!!
  • snowbound1snowbound1 Member Posts: 2
Hi everyone. I have had my car earlier than most people. I was the first recipient of the QX here in Saddle River NJ and since then I have been enjoying the car tremendously. The brakes have not had any problems, even since day one. During the scedualed car check-ups they have replaced the brakes in fear that i may complain in future events but I am yet to complain about the car. Also no terrible wind noise in the car, no leakage, and no electronical problems. While reading some of these entries I feel that the people posting them are out to get Infiniti for some odd reason, but i have no reason to report ANY problems about the car. It is a godsend and everyone that rides in it loves it. I have convinced three friends to buy/lease the car along with my wife and they also have not been complaining about the wonderful machine. I am scedualed to pick up my third QX56 for my 17 year old son next weekend. Safe and dependable, this should be a great first car. He is very excited, already knowing how mmy wife and i lobe the car so. Also, the car has been brought to Vermont for numerous offroading adventures in the four foot deep snow, mud and dirt. Even there no rattles to report. Amazing and ironic that one car could have so little problems but yet all the others have many. Hard to believe, huh? :confuse: Well I will leave you with this; I love, LOVE, my Infiniti QX56 and look forward to many more years with it. :D
PS..- I have 29,000 miles on the car. This model infiniti is NOT a :lemon:
  • lexusandbimmerlexusandbimmer Member Posts: 5
Well Ibinh mine is a late build 04 Qx, numerous problems such as messed up driver and rear passenger windows, the driver one hesitates gets stuck and after several tries goes up rear window knocks when coming up and left scratches in the window they finished both wondow. then i had tons and tons of sqeaks and rattles in the headliner took it in they fixed that, then in the liftgate they insulated the liftgate (hasnt made a single noise) then i developed a really bad annoying rattle in the two front doors took it in they tried fixing it with lube and grease didnt work took it back they replaced both front doors and everything was ok. Well to answer the brake question i've only taken my car in once for brakes and i didnt have any problems after. my Qx has been holding up really well not a single noise yet everything is running nice and smooth (like it should be).

"I feel that the people posting them are out to get Infiniti for some odd reason"

You figured us out, Snowbound. I paid $55k so I could drive a $35k FX35 for a few days every other month while my QX is being serviced. I just love the challenge of squishing my kids three car seats across the back seat of that no-frills, little FX. And oh, how I love that hour and a half round trip to the dealer.

But you know, hmm... maybe there are a few problems with the QX? Maybe the brakes really are wearing down every few months for some owners. Just because you got lucky doesn't mean everyone with problems is "out to get Infiniti."

I just got every brake related part replaced for the fifth time. Maybe the fifth time is the charm?? Let's hope!
  • dream84dream84 Member Posts: 3
Same here! We paid about $55K also, and we just are out to get Infiniti like everyone else. Like we have nothing better to do with our time: 1)get married in September 2)close on a house in 2 weeks 3)enjoy our lives by not being in service every other week. Snowbound, did you ever think that they are replacing your brakes because they see something wrong with them before you notice it?????? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this one out! Well, then again, we can all see who we are dealing with by your lack of spelling ability...sorry! I just take offense to someone saying that I am "out to get Infiniti" when I am wasting time, energy, and money on a vehicle that is faulty built!!! Especially when I am getting married in less than 3 months! I truly hope that no one in your family gets seriously hurt by this vehicle. Find out what happened in PA if you really care about your family.
P.S. In PA, Nissan just did a buy back on all their full size vehicles (Titan, Armada, QX). New Jersey should be soon to follow suit!
    Holla for a Dolla!!!!
  • misheemishee Member Posts: 4
Dream 84, What do you mean about PA Nissan just did a buy back on all of their full size vehicles?

I had my brake's replaced over a week ago, and I still feel like something is holding the car back, my mpg has gone down to about 12.1 mpg, (used to be 14.9), and it feels like my car is all over the road with some pulling to the left. The techs checked it out last week right after the brake kit was installed because I told them something was wrong and of course they are telling me nothing is wrong. Anybody else having these issues?
  • lexusandbimmerlexusandbimmer Member Posts: 5
I know this question is kind of irrelevant but has anyone taken this car offroading onto like sand mud and steep inclines water fording etc. im thinking of taking my family camping and the place im thinking of you need a 4x4 vehicle to get there.

I had mine down to the 4wd portion of Corolla, NC. I followed a hurricane in (forget which one) but the roads leading to the house were very soft sand and flooded in spots. I didn't know how deep it was in spots but I kept it in 4 wheel low and plowed though. At one point the water was splashing over the hood and it never lost a stroke. I did have it nailed a couple of times with visions running through my head of a very big wrecker having to pull me out, but it cruised through several times with no problem. I also scared the hell out of my son and his uncle who were scouting the house from a steep 25' tall sand dune when I thought they said it was THIS way, so I climbed the very steep inclined and when I traversed at the top they were pretty much standing in the way (for a very short time).
Anyway, we had a blast with the thing in the sand and water. I came home after the week and pressure wash the hell out of it. That was a year ago and no problems since (outside some sand under the plastic cover on the running boards. I say go for it and have a blast!

I have a ranch in New Mexico and I travel from Phoenix Arizona every other weekend even in the winter time. My Q has performed most satisfactory, especially in required 4x4 mode. I haul water tanks on a trailer to my house even through snow and the electronic gizmos in this vehicle make the best 4x4 capable car I have ever owned (including two hummers a 93 and a 95).
I have only had problems with those damn brakes. Hopefully someone at Infiniti will get it fixed. Everything else in this vehicle is perfect. It rides (obviously) much better than the Hummers I used to own and is a lot cheaper to operate (reasons not to own Hummers).
Anyway mud and snow are no problem, I have found through experience this last winter to use the Auto mode of four wheel drive, it is without a doubt smarter than me regarding lost wheel traction. I experimented in manual and auto 4x4 modes and when not needing low range I just put it into auto 4x4 and drive. It is cool hearing and feeling the drive line do its thing when the going gets rough.

I, too, must agree that you have been lucky with your selection. I got rid of my QX after 8 months. Numerous brake and rotor problems (those were the only problems I had experienced at the time), and while I am aware you have had your brakes replaced for fear of complaining, I find that a little hard to comprehend. Service departments don't replace parts for the "fear of complaining".
I am glad to hear of your adventures, and your family's satisfaction with your QX56, but I'm also glad to hear that I no longer have to deal with the Infiniti models! I also know 4 other locals that have gotten rid of their QX's due to the same brake problems.
I hope you don't end up eating your words in the long run, and I hope your family continues to stay safe. You are one of the few without hard feelings through experience!

Well, after about 6 visits to the dealer I can now say my brakes are completely fixed. After the initial fix about 2 weeks ago, my Qx didn't seem like it was ever going to stop when I applied the brakes, however they adjusted the brakes from underneath the vehicle and they now work. There is light at the end of the tunnel. I once again love my QX.

Glad to hear it! I think my last service got the same treatment because I too was standing on the pedal a little harder. I chose to let them "break in" and after a couple hundred miles they are perfect now. As a bonus I noticed almost no brake dust on the front wheels!

    Folks,
I am happy to report that my dealer answered the call with my QX56 brakes as well. I was in for a normal service (LOF and such) and advised the service writer that my brakes were again pulsing. He immediately looked on their inventory listing and notified me that they had the latest corrective action parts sets in. I advised him to go ahead witht he installation.
Well long story short I just completed a 1400 mile trip and my brakes are the greatest. I have never been so pleased. The first 200 miles or so were a lot of extra effort (as someone had reported too) but after that they really do stop forward motion with the slightest of pressure. They put all new pads on all four wheels and larger and thicker rotors on the front. I inquired as to the root cause and they stated something about poor heat disipation on the originals and the newer rotor design and pad media will disipate heat much better. Well for now I am completely satisfied with the fix. I will report back in 5000 miles with a longer term experience.

I have 05 purchased in Nov 04 and originally posted that salesman told me that upgraded brakes were already on the vehicle. Though he was wrong, I don't think he did it maliciously as he had a brand new Armada that he had just purchased (who really knows, but I choose the high road). Around 5000 miles I noticed brake judder but only when towing my boat (which I do once per week minimum) and only 1 or 2 times during normal driving. It was minor, but given the history I took it into Infiniti and they diagnosed with "hotspots" in the rotor. they didn't turn or anything, but said it was minor, not a danger and preferred to fix with the new parts (I did question what it entailed and got the right answers, new pads (4) and rotors in the front and specifically these were the redesigned rotors). I was told a few days but took 3 weeks to obtain parts (this was in May). They fixed and I haven't had a problem since and I have about 1000 miles on the new fix. I have to say, that I do think Nissan stepped up and took care of the Infiniti customers first, as many on the Armada board were still waiting with no date given for new parts. Brakes do feel better, but not hugely different and we'll have to see about the fix itself. Dealer has been really great to deal with, as it's not their fault and the few rattles and such they've taken care of with a smile and rental each time. Service guy told me they'd done about 15 of these, and none had returned. I'm posting because this boards been of much help to me in my decision and hopefully someone else finds this helpful. My dealer is in Elk Grove, CA

Maizenblue - I have had my QX56 in twice now b/c hte XM radio is not working very well at all. I have an Audi and it works great, while the Inifiniti cuts in and out. What did they end up doing to fix yours??? Or is it still not working?

had my second go at the brake repair. This qualifies the car for the lemon law in california if it happens again. Hopefully this will take care of theproblem.

I bought an 04 in February. My wife has put 3K miles on it, and during the last two weeks noticed the brake problems that have been well documented on the board.

Took the car to Kelly Infiniti in Danvers, Ma. this morning, met with my service advisor. He said they would shave the rotors to fix the problem short term, because of a lack of parts available to the dealers. They are coming in sporadically, and they never know when or how many are coming.

Took off in my I35 loaner, they called me back 4 hours later, said they rec'd enough parts in the delivery this a.m. to fix mine, and I drove off.

Bottom line: GREAT TRUCK, GREAT SERVICE!! Even Lexus has issues with their cars (I had an ES and 3 GS's in 6 years). But it's how they deal with it that matters. These guys couldn't have been any more accomodating, almost Lexus like. I drive off thinking "that was easy", and will forget in a couple of days that there was even a problem.

People comment on how beautiful the truck is. Took 2 other couples out Sat. night, and they each remarked how comfortable and smooth it was for a big truck. That coming from a Landcruiser and M500 owner.

    No complaints here...just praise...

Audiowner- I have had the same issue with my XM receiver as well. Service department keeps telling me that there is no problem. Well, in a wide open area such as a parking lot they are correct, but get anything larger than a small branch over the roof line and it cuts out. If they fix yours, let me know what they found and I will do the same.

:) Brakes are fixed in my opinion. I have gone the next 5K miles after the new stuff was installed and have had no problems. I also received from Nissan (Infiniti) the letter with the 48K no mileage limit for brake judder. In that letter was another notification regarding factory schedule maintenance for the car through 36 months and/or 37.5K miles whatever the car reaches first. That is cool I mean all maintenance, LOF, air filters, etcetera. I like Infiniti and especially my car.

Way to many poor user reviews. I've been reading and studying for three day now and I just am blown away by what a lemon this model seems to be.

I've read all the reviews both here and yahoo on the QX, Escalade and the Lexus LX 470. Almost every reviewer loves their Escalades and some of them are on their third one. Very very few bad reports.

The QX has many many absolute horror stories. I'm not only warned off the QX ... I'm now very negative on Infinity and Nissan in general. This is too bad as I was very excited about the QX at first. I was truly thinking it was the newest and best of the three.

The Lexus may be dated but at least it works. The Escalade may be just an American behemoth but their owners rave about them and they look pretty good.

It sure pays to dig deep when researching vehicle purchases. Thank goodness for Edmonds and Yahoo people who report on their vehicles. I would never have known the truth by reading the professional reviews. Obviously they are not interested in the real dope. Evidently they are beholden to the manufacturers. :(
