    FNamowicz,

Right you are on that, dealerships are like casinos --the house always wins!

No doubt as the inventory of 2007's increases the prices will come down accordingly. Hopefully my experience can help someone else save money as well.

    Happy RAVin'

mixmanot....Isn't Longo Toyota in your neighborhood. I see from their website they have 101 RAV4s in their inventory, including a number of Limited 4WD, 6cyl vehicles. They seem to have the largest inventory of anyone in the country. I don't know anything about them or their pricing and, suprisingly, I haven't seen many folks discuss their buying experience with them. Maybe they are on other forums. I am in Oregon and would probably go to Californina rather than the East Coast to buy a RAV if the Cal. dealers were competetive with the East Coast people.

I got a quote of 21,350 + TTT for 2007 Rav4 4x2 V4. It is a very base model with no sun roof,6CD. Is this reasonable? :confuse:
  • rav4_merav4_me Member Posts: 12
    Kalci,

You really have to shop a price around to see if it's any good. For all you know the next dealer might undercut it by a few hundred bucks and throw in free window tint. Check out my previous posts on OTD pricing, it takes a lot of the math out of car buying.

    Good Luck!

 Brian & others: I thought all the Ravs came with window tinting. Are you talking about the front & front seat windows? I thought in California the front windows are not allowed to be tinted, yet I see quite a few SUV'S with every window tinted. Does anyone know how they get away with it? My eye's can't take a lot of sun and it sure would help? I couldn't believe those goofballs over at Subaru that don't even have window tinting as an option. They lost my business & probaly thousands of others. When you have dogs, the other tinting won't do. It's funny when you like 2 cars equally,it always comes down to some little feature one car has over the other. The Rav4 has same type of problem-you pay $25000.00 & they have no side protection along the doors. End of rant. Thanks

I have the 2006 RAV and the front windows did not come factory tinted. The dealership I went to automatically adds the tint and the door guards. As far as CA tint, I know at one time no tint at all was allowed, though I think it's relaxed a bit no? I know you can't go as dark as other states. Here in Nevada you can go almost limo tint.

I understand TMV calculation, except for one small detail. Here in Central Florida, usually the Toyota dealers add around $695 for what I deem "fluff", i.e. paint guard, sealant, underbody coating, etc. This is posted on the window sticker and of course, included in the price. When Edmunds shows, for example, that the TMV of a RAV4 is about $1,000 under MSP, do they include or EXCLUDE such dealer additions. Please understand that I am NOT talking about destination fees which are pretty typical and non-negotiable. Thanks for any info. GJC

gjvfish....Edmunds obviously does not figure any dealer added "fluff" into their prices. Most dealers don't add "fluff" but some do. Edmunds has no way to produce prices for each dealer or even each region.
  • evergreenevergreen Member Posts: 213
rav_v4_2007.....$1500 below MSRP is a pretty good deal, expecially if you can get it from a nearby dealer. Some are finding deals for $2000+ below MSRP but I wouldn't complain to much with your deal. Just enjoy it and don't lose any sleep because a few have gotten better deals.
  • cjosephsoncjosephson Member Posts: 24
The "fluff" that you have referred to is the bogus and uselss $699 dealer option called "Toyoguard" that has been sold on Toyotas for decades. Consumer Reports say avoid it if you can. It's a waste of money. The RAV4s already have undercoating and paint sealant. The VIN etching kit can be purchased for $19.95 and some police stations will do it for free. You do get roadside assistance but go with AAA. The only way to avoid the "toyoguard" is to request a RAV4 without it. Many RAV4s in the SE region come without the "toyoguard." Most RAV4s on the lot have it and the dealer is hoping you buy fromthe lot. However you do have the option of requesting one without the "toyoguard" if you are willing to wait a few weeks.

As far as prices, they will vary depending on options and dealer fees.If I had to doit allover again, I would insist on OTD pricing (the actual out the door price).

BAD DEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All fluff, no real options or engine or 4wd
  • cjosephsoncjosephson Member Posts: 24
This seems like a lot of fluff options that are bogus. The DRL is a standard option on all RAV4s. Some of the other options appear to be part of the "toyoguard" pkg. If you already purchased, no big deal. Some deals are better than others. Enjoy the ride. The RAV4 is the best SUV out there.

    Got an '07 rav4 4wd v6 with JBL, moonroof, leather/heated seats, DRL & mats in S.Cal. Here's what I ended up paying:

The MSRP on the car was $30,334

Purchase price was $28,087 plus taxes and fees.
    tax: 2180.23
    tire fee: $8.75
    smog abatement fee: $12
    registration fee: $233
    electronic filing fee: $28
    documentation fee: $45

    TOTAL PAID: $30,593.98
  • evergreenevergreen Member Posts: 213
mixmanot...that is a very good price. Was this a special order or was it a car on their lot? Did your superior negotiating skills play a role or is this just the normal price anyone would pay? Would you care to divulge the nae of the dealer?

    Nautical Blue w/following options:

    Carpet Floor/Cargo Mat Set
    Roof Rack
    Tonneau Cover
    "17 Styled Steel Wheel
    Daytime Running Lights

Cost = $22,300 OTD (tax, title, reg) and got them from $5200 up to $6000 for my '03 Elantra, an NYC car with all the wear on the body, brake system and frame you'd expect from the mean streets

MSRP was $22,214 before tax, etc. so I saved almost $1300 over the asking price.

    Hi rudy
sound really good, I'm in nyc too could you tell me which dealer?????
  • rudy13rudy13 Member Posts: 3
Got it in PA, outside of Philly. Just moved from NYC, away from Manhattan dealerships! (The one I bought my Elantra from dented it during an oil change and never really compensated me or fixed it....!) You might consider going out of state..

Hi, rudy13, Do you mind sharing the name of Philly dealer? I happen to live in metro pilly too and am looking for a rav4 base 4x4. Thanks.

Hi there - it was Sloane Toyota in Devon! They had one Sport and one Limited in stock besides the one I got - took my first drive to work today in it, and must say, I'm psyched...

    Hey Rudy,

A good Philly dealer is Faulkner Toyota on Route 1 right before it turns in to Roosevelt blvd. Ask for Patty, she is friendly and polite and gave me a great deal on my 06 Rav sport 4x4. It is not your normal car buying experience there with the haggling and b.s.. So good luck on you purchase.

    I bought the 2007 RAV4 Silver 4x4 Base with 3rd Row Seat
The MSRP was $24557 I got it for $22500. The doc fee was $200 and registration was $85
I bought it from Ira Toyota in Danvers Massachusetts, they were very good as they did not pressure me into buying anything. The gave me a good quote over the phone, after I submitted a quote request using Edmunds

I shopped the RAV4 against the 2007 CRV 4WD EX which me and my wife liked better but we bought the RAV4 because of the 3rd row seat

I wish Toyota would package their options better so that I could get an upgraded JBL audio system on the Base SUV

Just got back from a 1400 mile trip from Florida to Gatlinburg, TN. The RAV delivery and purchase came right before our trip so the timing was perfect, otherwise I was set to get a rental.

After seeing so many people on the forum getting the V6/4WD configuration I was wondering how my 4-Cyl/2WD would handle the altitude and winding roads of the Smokey Mountain National Park. I can't say I was disappointed.

The first two days we had great weather but on the last day it was fog, wind, rain and leaves blowing around, not ideal driving conditions on twisting mountain roads with 300 ft dropoffs.

My RAV held the road like a sportscar, never broke traction or hesitated on the inclines. Being the driver I enjoyed the "circuit" of the motor trails while my wife had to close her eyes now and then.

One thing I didn't like was when I was using cruise control on the approach through the Appalachians the engine would noticeably surge on hills to maintain the speed setting. It didn't simulate real world driving in the sense that most people don't gun the engine on a hill just to maintain a steady speed.

I tried to keep the speed down but I don't think my break-in period was "ideal." What the heck, it's a Toyota.

    HD= heated seats
    LA= leather seats
    RL= daytime running lights
    SR= moonroof
TO= towing prep 3500lbs capacity and upgraded radiator and alternator
Z1= preferred accessory pkg carpet/cargo mat set, cargo net, first aid kit

color savannah metallic (this is the only one that we've seen in our area) NW Indiana bought Lafayette, IN home of Purdue University 1 1/2 hours south of our home so travel to buy was not as bad as some on this board.

    bought for 28200.00
from what i'm told this is a good deal around here though it sounds like others have gotten a better deal on this site.

now we start negotiations on platium 7 year 100,000 mi warranty so far 900.00 any opinions? I've been told that the extended warranty needs to be purchased before the car is titled (or a few days after) is this true?
With ford and Gm you can purchase it any time before the 12 month 12000 mi. time period and it is the same price as the day you bought the car. I'm told not so with Toyota, price goes up after it is titled so it is to my benefit to get the best price before taking possession. Taking posssesion first part of the week. I just got back from driving it no problems as listed on this board.
Noise (road) = no, no different than 02 explorer, JBL = no

Hey, test drove a v6 limited 2wd last week and was awesome.
Now I am waiting for a silver in the same configuration. The dealer told me it could be up to 6 weeks wait. I am in the S.E region. It is hard to find v6 around here. Maybe I will have it before de end of the year.

First thanks to everyone on this site.
It was an advantage knowing what to look for, ask for, and get. As I already posted the $28200. I felt was a good price. I commented, (I didn't expect them to go for it) that I've been checking prices on the platium extended warranty. I only want Toyota plan not some 3rd party. They say ok we sell some but the 3rd party is cheaper. What price did our competitors give you? 855.00 for 7 yrs 100,000 miles no deductible Toyota platium plan. Finance person says that's a good price and if you like I'll match it. I state that's ok they did the work already and I'll just take a check into them in the morning. Wait, he states if I beat it will you buy it from us? What's your offer I asked stating the cost I'm told is $705.00. He checks his book in front of me and says yes your info is correct. He then asks is 825.00 a fair price? I said yes print the papers for a 120.00 over cost that is a deal. So the out come on the platium $0.00 deductible 7 years 100,000 mile is $825.00.
Rav4 cost 28200.00 the extended warranty costs 825.00 total is 29025.00 for car and warranty not bad. thanks for all the previous posts maybe this info will help someone still looking.

I live in Santa Cruz, CA and have started looking for a 2007 RAV4 Limited 4WD v6, specifically in Nautical Blue/Taupe leather. Haven't yet found a dealer in the state that has one in stock, but I've only looked a couple days. A few questions for the more experienced folk:

    1. I located the invoice base price (not incl. options) at consumerguide.com for $24k (updated 11/2/06) for this model/make/trim. A dealer I spoke to said their invoice base price was $25k before options (we didn't get far enough into it for me to see the factory invoice so maybe that included extra fees/line item costs). Question: where can I get the most up-to-date invoice prices so that I can properly negotiate? Do they vary by region?

    2. Posters have commented about special ordering particular colors/options, but the dealers here act like they just have to wait for their random shipment to arrive every 2 wks to see what they get. Or they can search other dealers. How do you go about special ordering? Are there extra costs for this?

    3. I understand how to negotiate costs, but am I at a disadvantage since it's so hard to find my particular color combo, esp if it is coming from a 3rd party dealer? Any tips? If one dealer finds the car, how is the profit distributed between the two dealers (ie, who do you negotiate with)? Is it better to give a firm OTD offer?

    4. In this particular case, would a broker make sense in order to have someone constantly scouring dealerships on my behalf? I've heard of a good one.

    Any help appreciated...
  • rav4_merav4_me Member Posts: 12
    SantaCruzing,

The way it works in Florida is that any dealer can access the inventory for the next month or so before it arrives at port, they refer to it as "sea stock."

It's a simple matter for them to divert a particular RAV4 to their dealership right off the boat. All they have to do in terms of reciprocity is to allow the other dealership (that originally ordered the RAV4) to have a similar vehicle that was earmarked for their lot.

Southeast Toyota is the sole importer for the entire southeast region: FL, AL, GA, SC, NC. That's five states worth of inventory to choose from. It might not be as favorable for you.

I would recommend negotiating with multiple dealers since they can all obtain the vehicle you want. Lowest price wins!

OTD pricing is the only way to go as far as I'm concerned. Otherwise you'll finally settle on a price for the car and then the price will go up dramatically when they hit you up with all the fees and additional profit markups. An OTD price levels the playing field from the start, all the cards are on the table and the price is fixed. Check out my previous posts for more info.

    Good luck!

    Dear Santa,

    1. I am not familiar with comsumerguide.com but it probably has the same numbers as edmunds.com. You can price a car there with whatever options you want and get the invoice and MSRP. The dealer's invoice will be about $400 more than the Edmund's invoice because of advertising costs the dealer has to pay to the manufacturer. In general, Fitzmall on the eas coast sells the REAV4 for $200 over the dealers invoice. This works out to be about $2000 under MSRP, depending on the model and options. Whether you look at invoice plus, MSRP minus or OTD pricing depends on your strategy. If you are talking to three different dealers and just want to know which one will let you drive a car off the lot for the lowest price, OTD works fine. If you want to walk into a dealer and make him an offer, you should use the MSRP or the invoice numbers to determine your offer. There is another strategy some use which is to fax or e-mail about 10-15 dealers and tell them what you want and ask them for their best price. If you send your e-mail on the last Tuesday of the month, you may find a dealer that needs to sell a vehicle to meet a quota and they might give you an outstanding price just to insure the sale because if they make their quota it could mean many thousands of dollars bonus money in their pockets. Be sure to contact the fleet manager or general sales manager and not just a salesperson. MSRP and invoice don't vary by region. Well, maybe in the SE and Gulf regions but that is a different story that you don't need to worry about.

    2. Getting the exact vehicle you want can be difficult, depending on what you are looking for. For example, last I checked there were over 1100 RAV4s in the SE region but only six Limited 4WD 6cyl RAVs. There are a lot of things a dealer can do to try to find you the right vehicle and it really shouldn't cost anything extra but most dealers are lazy. You can "special order" a RAV but it might take several months to get what you want. This shouldn't cost anything either.

    3. Dealers swap cars all the time so that isn't even something you should be concerned about. It will all even out in the long run for them.

    4. I have never used a broker but I can see where there would be some advantages. It is just an extra cost, though, so it all depends on personal factors.

    Happy hunting.

I am interested in a 07 2WD 4 cyl RAV and want leather seats. Don't care much whether it has heated seats or a moonroof or satellite radio. Wondering if anyone has purchased after-market leather? Also, can you add hands-free cell via bluetooth after market as well less expensively than going with a convenience pkg?

I am looking to get the best deal possible on a RAV4 in Dallas. I am looking for the base model, 2wd. I got an OTD price of 22K. Is this a good deal? I got the factory invoice which says base price is 18660. After adding 2% holdback 417$, 700$ Delivery Processing Fee, 700$ port option, T.A.F 354, T.M.F 251$ (I have no clue what these are), 1% Finance Reserve 218$ etc etc... it comes to 21705$. The dealer told that I can take it out of door at that price. Also he told me that he might be able to give a 500$ off.
  • jimbobearjimbobear Member Posts: 12
I am in the Rocy Mountain region and have been quoted
    $24400 (+ Taxes,Title and Registration) for Base V6 4x4.
    No other dealer 'fees'.

Besides standard features, it comes with option A. I have
been told that the option A is something all Base 4x4 V6
'come built with' in my region. Seems to be true from the
configurator on toyota.com for my zip code. Is this really
    the case?

    This option A contains:
Cargo Net, Tonneau Cover, 6-CD Changer, Roof Rack,Aluminium alloy wheels (17 inch), Day time Running lights, Towing package, floor mats

In addition to this if I go for:
after market leather seats, Clear Bra, Toyota offered Security system (Dealer installed,
not factory) and Driver/Passenger window tint, then I have to pay another $2400.

How do you all think this price is? It will be helpful.
  • evergreenevergreen Member Posts: 213
cici...I don't know anything about bluetooth but I would opt for the cloth and then do leather later if you want. Toyota doesn't make too many RAVs with leather so it may be hard to find what you want. After-market leather is about the same cost and you get more color choices. It is probably better quality leather, too.
  • evergreenevergreen Member Posts: 213
naveenvipin....The edmunds invoice (at edmunds.com) for the base RAV with no options is $19,930 which includes transportation. The dealer will add the advertising fee and maybe a little for gas which will bring his invoice to around $20,400. Fitzmall in Pennsylvania sells that car for $20,400 plus $99 processing fee, title and taxes. Figure out what your title and taxes are, add that to $20,500 and that will give you an idea of what a good price looks like. I don't know what all those extra fees you mentioned are for but I guess everything is bigger in Texas. :D

Just in case this helps. Just bought a 2007 Rav 4 Sport V6 (Moonroof, JBL stereo, Floor Mats, Cargo Tonneau, Daytime Running Lights and Tow Prep) Sticker was $28,714 purchase price $26,617. This appears to be $687 over invoice. I had a feeling that I could have gotten it for a couple hundred less if I was willing to walk away from deal for the day but it was the color (Black) and options that we were looking for so I did not feel like playing around. I found my 07 Rav4 on the lot while visiting family in Ohio.

I'd been looking for a 4Cyl 2WD Limited with sunroof and JBL (for BlueTooth). The JBL isn't available yet here in Texas.

Anyhow, I stopped at Byers Toyota in Delaware OH. They had (get this) the exact one that I wanted on the lot. Ended up leaving that afternoon with the car at about $1500 off sticker, no fluff or hanky-panky on the deal. They even had someone come in to help me shuttle my rental car back to the Columbus airport 30 miles away.

I suspect that I did better because it was the last weekend of the month and I wasn't "pushing" to buy the vehicle.

Anyhow, I figured that, with a 22 hour drive back to Texas, I'd love it or hate it.... I do REALLY like the car!

Hello, I am new to car buying and need some polish to make my first big purchase a wise choice to start off on.

I am interested in a RAV4 07' I was told there are no more 06' models in our neck of the woods (Jacksonville, NC) that would be a better deal than the deal being given for the 07', I am wondering if this is true...

Dealer is giving an us the number 22,700 (MSRP is 22,250 base)for a 4WD, V4 engine, basic model no frills. And about 1,000 more for V6 (what I wanted, but he says much harder to find).

What do I need to ask in particular to understand the nuances of making a deal? Should I say OTD what is your price? Should it be below MSRP? I have very good credit, and wonder what APR to negotiate for. I told him that my bank already approved me (which of course they would but I have been lazy in filling out the forms) for 5.99 rate (which is what my credit card is with them... NOW I think maybe in reality I could get a better rate....(my score is 750).

I need some help, I am a savvy woman, but I worry about making a mistake.

    Thank you so much!

    :confuse:

    supertortz,

usually the price difference between RAV4 4 cyl and V6 is
    around $2000, from what I have seen.So, 23700 is a good price. I have been offered a quote of $24400 in CO for 2007 RAV4 Base 4x4 V6
    with following factory installed options:
Roof rack, 6-CD changer, Cargo Net,
    Tonneau cover,
17 inch 5 spoke alloy wheels, Day time running lights and
    Tow prep package.

This price includes all charges and fees. I will have to pay
for Tax, Title and registration fee extra. OTD price is a good way to get the idea of how much you really gonna pay.
