I honestly did not want to pay the 6-7,000 dollar difference for a v8 so i bought a v6 premium. MY Choice. I can throw a supercharger on my v6 for about 4500 installed, warrantied by an svt dealer an hour from my house and prolly beat a GT. Nobody knocks you for spending too much for your GT so dont knock us hard working people who maybe cant afford a GT. I know for a fact my v6 can hang with a 5.0 fox body any day of the week. ford sells an 80+ power package for under 1200 for the v6 210 +80 pretty close there guys, all my research shows that I can make my v6 just as fast as yer v8 for alot less. Sorry Im just tired of ppl knocking the v6 owners :P

Hey, thanks for the tip. Although it's not a big problem for me (I'm also 6-4), I'll check that out.
  • gzgtpgzgtp Member Posts: 83
Can make it as fast as you want, still won't handle like a GT.
  • mschmalmschmal Member Posts: 1,757
Um, thats what the Pony package is for.

BTW. there was some question as to whether the Pony package does include the rear sway bar.

I assure you it does. (checked under one myself).

Incidently, the V6 has prolly about 150 to 200 less pounds hanging out ahead of the front axle; accordingly, it may handle even better as the weight distribution is closer to 50/50.

Someone with lots of racing trophies on his shelves once told me "Its more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow."

I live in NJ. We have twice as many state troopers than PA which like twice the size and i think like 3 times the population. Fast is good but 2 fast is not good. :(

Is that the package with the cheesy door stripe?
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
Look at the ad to the left (if it's still there). It's really the grille and suspension mods. The tape stripe is on the bottom just like the others and it can be deleted.
  • tayl0rdtayl0rd Member Posts: 1,926
Doesn't that Pony Package V6 cost nearly as much as a base GT?
  • mschmalmschmal Member Posts: 1,757
    Includes:
    Unique Mats
Fog Lights and chrome grill. $545 from Ford Accessories plus installation.
17 inch wheels "bullet style" stand alone upgrade price $200 (aftermarket is $202x4 plus mounting.
Spoiler and Pony stripe. stand alone price $295
GT inspired suspension. (rear sway bar)

Looks like a good value to me.

My V6 Premium Pony Pkg, w/side bags, Leather, IUP, Active Alarm was $21500.
  • tayl0rdtayl0rd Member Posts: 1,926
So about 3 grand shy of a base GT. Add in the performance package that someone mentioned and it is within spitting distance of a base GT, pricewise. And you'd still be lacking a more stout transmission, better brakes, more HP, more torque and, arguably, more "prestige."
  • gzgtpgzgtp Member Posts: 83
How long have you owned your V-6 w/pony package?
I test drove both the GT and the V-6. I'm pretty sure the V-6 I test drove had the pony package because I remember not liking the door stripe. From my test drive, I can tell you there was no comparison and I ended up with the GT. Not saying the V-6 is not a good car, just didn't delight me enough. Hope you are enjoying yours. :)
  • mschmalmschmal Member Posts: 1,757
The V6 with "Exterior Appearance" also has a door strip but it is slightly different from the Pony package stripe.

The only well to tell is by lookinag at the grill if you didn't see a chrome corral surrounding the pony with small fog lights">, it wasn't a pony package.

In regard to the "base GT", my dealer doesn't order any. All the GTs we have are at least $29k MSRP.

The MOST expensive V6 mustang is still under 25k. Half are under 24k.

  • lmmlmm Member Posts: 70
A comparable GT Premium with the same options as my Pony Pkg is $29,170. I bought mine in December 2005 and GT's only sold at MSRP with no X plan pricing. I bought my V6 on X plan for $21500.

Quite the difference in price. The V6 is quick enough for me and the ~8k difference was significant enough to go to not worry about HP. There is always another version with more HP so price was choice.
  • gzgtpgzgtp Member Posts: 83
I bought my GT Premium in March with X plan pricing and paid closer to 21,500 than 29,170. Glad you are enjoying yours as I am mine. :)
  • lmmlmm Member Posts: 70
agreed. Prices definitely came down once supply for GT's caught up to demand.

If purchasing today I would go GT. But in 2005 the price spread was significant.

We can all enjoy the ride no matter the HP.

I'm thinking of getting a 06 or 07 GT but wanted to know how it is in the snow? I not asking about 1 foot of snow but 1 to 4 inches. I don't want to change tires, this will be my daily driver. I live in Philly and we get some snow each year.

    Thanks
  • lmmlmm Member Posts: 70
It's rear wheel drive. You might need snow tires if you plan on a lot of driving in snow.
  • rblelandrbleland Member Posts: 312
I would not do it without snow tires. They make all the difference in the world. IMO the GT on All-Seasons would be hard to handle in snow.

My Mustang V6 is suppose to be built today. I hope they aren't too hungover in Flatrock celebrating the Tigers win.

i think you were better off getting the 'stang built now versus the next round. :)

i am putting my 06 mustang gt conv. in the garage for the winter and have never done it before.. any advise would be appreciated !!! i live in ny where it gets very cold and we get alot of snow.the garage is not heated or insulated so it can get very cold in there but it is dry.
    questions that come to mind:

should i use a car cover and if so which one/kind ?

i got the car new from the dealer 6 months ago and haven't waxed it yet but water still beads up.should i wax it before storing it ?

should i disconnect the battery or not ?

how often should i start it and how long should it run ?

put it on blocks or just move it a little when i run it to change tire position ?

and anything else someone can think of...thanks !
  • tayl0rdtayl0rd Member Posts: 1,926
Yes, use a car cover. Preferably one that is breathable.
Yes, definitely wax it before storing it.
    Yes, disconnect the battery.
You should probably run it for at least 10 minutes per week.
I would say drive it for those 10 minutes that you run it per week. That way, all the fluids will get a good working out (tranny fluid, differential fluid, brake fluid, etc.).
I would suggest having the air in your tires replaced with nitrogen.
  • riposteriposte Member Posts: 160
If you're going to run it every week, don't bother disconnecting the battery. If you have access to A/C power in the garage, you may want to consider a top-notch battery charger like the Battery Tender. I use one on my 10KW generator, and it's awesome.

If you DO run it every week, I'd be careful to run it more than 10 minutes. You want to make sure that all the gasoline that may have seeped into the oil burns off, and that the water is all evaporated out of the exhaust system.

If you drive it, be careful about picking up road salt.

I'd probably just disconnect the battery, put it on a Battery Tender, toss a cover over it, and come back in March or April.

    But that's just me.

    Good luck!

The Mustang GT not only made Road and Track's best 12 cars under $30,000, but is singled out as one of the best of the bunch. :shades:

I just turned 10,000 miles on my '05 GT. Bought it brand new w/ 4 miles on Jan 1, 2005. Was kind of hoping I could stretch it all the way to the 2 year mark before tripping the 5th digit. :( But with the weather we've had the past few days, I couldn't resist taking her out! :shades:
  • pony_piratepony_pirate Member Posts: 317
Put Mobil 1 in my GT. Recommend it highly. Definitely runs smoother. A tad more power. No wonder new Vettes come with it in their engines. :shades:
  • vertical3vertical3 Member Posts: 43
Have always run a synthetic in every new vehicle
I've gotten. Usually Mobil 1SS but Pennzoil and Castrol as well (PepBoy's auto chain frequently offers rebates that brings the per bottle price to $1.99). Wife's 06 4Runner has it now as did her 03. Switched to WalMart syn @ 65K for my 99 Expy (now 103K) because of the costs. Changed @ 500 mi to Mobil 1SS in my 06 GT. Not only does GM put Mobil 1 in Vette's, but Viper's, Porsche's, Aston Martin's, and BMW's all come from the factory with it as well.

Autoweek has an article that is about the future of the Mustang. And mentions they are considering a sedan version. And also a wagon?

    I don't buy it.

They SHOULD build those variants, but if they do, I seriously doubt they'll be naming them Mustangs.

i have a '91 mustang. i just change the oil, fill it with gas and put the car cover on it(garaged). usually start it one time over the winter months and run it for 20 minutes or so including heater. i have had to replace the battery every 6 years. i am in the northeast.

where the heck did you find that? :)

that must be somebody's custom job, is my guess (could be photshopped, for all i know). I wonder how the tail works. looks like it still lifts like a regular trunklid, making the back space not nearly as useful as a real wagon.

MUSTANG AND SNOW ???????? I don't think that's even a good idea. The Mustang is a rear light car. They have never been good in snow and I doubt they ever will be. Get a beater, store the Mustang and seriously reconsider trying to drive it in the snow.

****** TO ANYONE THAT SUFFERS FROM ANY KIND OF ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEMS OR A MUSTY / MILDEW SMELL IN THEIR 2005-2007 MUSTANG ****

These problems are more prevelant after it has rained or even after going through the car wash. Remove the passenger side sill plate cover and the kick panel (they just pull off). Pull the carpet back and check the floor, carpet and surrounding areas THOROUGHLY for water or dampness. Also check behind the smart junction box and wiring harness located under the kick panel. Carefully check the area under the junction box too (sharp edges).

I have had to Lemon Law my 2005 Mustang Convertible because of a leak problem. There are sections between the dashboard, "A" pillar and firewall that have not been properly sealed. This allows water in and results in the junction box and wiring harness becoming water soaked. Obviously, electronics do not like water. Ford thinks that by sealing this MANUFACTURING defect the car is magically fixed. If your car has this leak now, didn't it leak from the time it left the factory ? How long did your car sit on Ford's shipping lot or the Ford dealership lot collecting water before this leak was found ? How long was water allowed to drip on this junction box and wiring harness. (In my case it was over a year. I only found it because I made a mistake and left my normally "garage kept" Mustang in the rain for 2 days. The 3" of water in the passenger side was kind of a give away.) *My selling dealership SWEARS they never had a water problem with the car while it was on their lot (you can stop laughing now).

For 4+ months now my has car reeked of mildew, has mold growing in it, on warm days gets a layer of condensation on the inside of all the windows and still suffers from intermittent electrical problems (which the dealer just can't seem to find). Ford says the car is fixed, but the mildew smell is so bad even Ford dealerships will not take the car as a trade in because of suspected water damage. I no longer consider this car safe to drive as the electrical system has been water contaminated for an unknown period of time and I have no idea what safety equipment may have or may not have been affected. But somehow I really don't want to find out the hard way.

Ford will not help you with this problem. Their attitude has been, "yeah we didn't seal a seam, but it's sealed now so the car is ALL BETTER". Then they send you on your way. I don't know about you, but on the sticker I didn't see anything about "comes with passenger side that may or may not leak". It's not what I paid for.

Current owners just be aware this is something to check when you have any kind of electrical problems. (Search the internet for "2005-2007 Mustang water leaks" you will find that this is NOT an isolated incident. There are starting to be numerous reports of this problem.)

In case you didn't know, when you bought your Mustang :lemon: you got a Ford taillight warranty. Once they can't see your taillights anymore the warranty is over.

    :confuse:
Um ... go ahead and try to switch a repairing dealership in Southern NY. Once the laughing dies down, you'll be informed that anything the first dealership touched the second dealership won't even help you with. That is IF they even agree to let you make an appointment. They don't want to hurt their "FIX IT RIGHT" rating. That was what I was told by the Service Manager.(Don't wanna miss out on any of that prime "Blue Oval" money by making their dealership look bad because they couldn't fix one of their own products.) I took my car back to the dealership I bought it from and was told that because another dealership had worked on it, the car was going to have to be serviced at the other dealership from that point on. I was then told to get my car of their lot or they were going to call the police. That was from the dealership that sold me the car. How's that for customer relations ?

Around here switching dealerships when you have a problem just doesn't happen. Yeah and I tried explaining that to the wonderful Ford Customer Care Representatives .... I was told that "It's up to the dealerships discretion." What kinda crap is that ? So I guess it's now acceptable for Ford dealerships to pick what they want to service and what they won't service.

Ford Customer Care aka "You're a Ford Customer, We Got Your Money, Now We Don't Care"

Ford Customer Care 800# ? I'm convinced it actually connects you to dial a joke.

Oh great. My beloved car is having identical problems to yours. It's due into the shop for the third time for the lingering mildew smell. This past weekend the passenger's side had a pool of water in it after a rainstorm. Any suggestions on how to proceed would be much appreciated. Is the situation hopeless?

  • h8mstngh8mstng Member Posts: 6
Three words ... Better Business Bureau and or lemon law the car. Oh and prepare for a drawn out battle with Ford. They don't care that they sold you a car that leaks. So far the only ones that seem to care are the BBB. Sue Ford through them. It's the only way you will ever come close to winning. The car is damaged and has been since day one. You have no idea how long it has been leaking or exactly what in the electrical system has become damaged. (For reference I have 25 years experience with electrical systems and have never seen one that could have water dripping on it and be considered "fine". Ford seems to think that electrical systems that are water soaked are consider to be the same as systems that weren't water soaked.)

Good luck, you're gonna need it in the next 4+ months.

The only way to solve this is to say to hell with the mustang as well as ford because as everyone knows FORD SUCKS. HAHA You would not have these problems if you would have bought a chevy or a dodge.

I was at the Mich intl auto show and saw a 07 Mustang GT with the $200 optional wheels I purchased on my 06 GT only they looked "decontented" They were not as bright or good looking as mine and they looked unpainted on the sides and background and no clearcoat spray on them). I wonder why they would do this on what was their showcase upgraded wheels, Maybe it was just a fluke.
