I'm thinking of buying a 2005/06 Solara Se or Se Sport 2.4 with 5 speed. While I am waiting to hear what the insurance will be I would like to find a reputable dealer. I live in Northern NJ and there are a few local dealers but some feedback would be appreciated.
Also - any opinions about options or the car in general area appreciated. I drive a 2001 Accord Coupe EX V6 with 34k on it and the Solara seems to have most of the same standard equiptment (and more).
Thanks for any information.
Nate
I paid $26500 before tax on '06 SLE V6.
It's with all options possible except navigation and convertible.
Is this good price? I bought it without research.
A not-so-subtle way to charge more for an in-demand car...
I was wondering if anyone has any prices for an '05 Solara SE Sport Auto with Leather in Baltimore? I'd like to get some prices so I can submit online quotes in the Baltimore area.
Thanks!
The wife and I have pretty much decided on the 06 SLE convertible, but we still need to drive one before we take the plunge. One of the salesman we've been dealing with has told us that the closest car sitting on a dealer lot is in Key West.
I'm not sure I quite believe him.
I appreicate your help.

Thanks for your input. I actually found one this evening. They are asking for invoice. Since it's a 05 model, I can also get $1,000 rebate. I guess that's not a bad deal.
Thanks again.
Minor upgrades accompany the Toyota Camry Solara into the 2006 model year. All Camry Solaras have power lumbar support for the driver this year, and convertibles get new "donut-style" rear headrests that improve visibility whether the top is raised or lowered. Solara SLE models receive new wood trim for the interior that replaces the reddish tint of the previous decor with a lighter-colored brown hue.

Review: I suppose the Solara has love it or hate it styling, at first I thought it looked a bit odd in the rear, but have gotten used to it and think it's quite nice looking. Gas mileage is amazing for such a roomy car, I average 30 mpg, and I sit in the worst traffic L.A. has to offer. Interior is arty, beautiful. I have the Lexus Pearlescent white paint option and spoiler, otherwise it's the base model. Lots o' features, including on board computer. Everyone has the impression I bought an expensive luxury car, so I'd say I got my money's worth. Paid under 19,000 for it brand spankin' new, and it looks and feels much more pricey.
There are plenty of dealers out there that I am sure, when negotiated right, will sell you a car for a fair profit margin. I am sure you know that as long as you do your research thorougly and shop around, you can get a decent deal.
Best of Luck!

The $29,700 is the dealer invoice as reported in, say, Edmunds, plus the advertising allowance that the dealer must pay to his/her local Toyota marketing group. Note that the invoice reported by Edmunds includes holdbacks, which the dealer gets from Toyota. According to carbargains these holdbacks were 3% of the base MSRP of the vehicle. So the dealer is still getting almost $1000 above his/her cost.
I believe $200 over your $19,539 invoice price would be a very good deal. Here is my understanding of what the dealer has to pay for that car, at least in Buffalo, NY. My guess is that Cincinnati would be similar.
Nominal dealer invoice before Destination Charge: $19,539
plus Destination Charge $540
plus Advertising Fees $500
minus Holdbacks and Dealer Incentives: 3% of base MSRP or $651
Total: $19,928
So if my figures are correct a price of $19,739 ($200 + $19,539) is less than the dealer’s real cost.
Let me know what you did pay.

I am going to buy 2006 SE V6 Styles in July or Augues. How much should I pay for it without any options(inovice:$19539). Is it a good deal if I pay $200 over inoice?
Appreciate your help
Anybody have experience with extended protection/warranty plans? I've been looking at a policy through Old Republic (mbadirect.com) that my credit union recommends.
Just my suggestion.
Ken
thanks, Lynn
HOPE YOU ARE ENJOYING THE CAR. MY WIFE THINKS THE 4 CYL IS NOT ENOUGH POWER. MY TEST DRV OF THE 4 WAS GOOD FOR ME. WHAT IS YOUR EXPERIENCE?
IS THE "ONBOARD COMPUTER" THE NAV SYSTEM, IF NOT WAS IT AN EXTRA OPTION. WHICH DEALERSHIP DID YOU BUY FROM? WE ARE IN SOLVANG. THANKS
LOURUBY
I WAS VERY HAPPY ON TEST DRV OF THE 4, SURE FELT IT HAD PLENTY OF POWER AND MOUNTAIN DRIVING IS NOT IN THIS CARS FUTURE.
ANYBODY WITH EXPERIENCE. THE OTHER ITEM IS THE HIGHER COST OF FUEL WITH THE V6.

best, ez..........
1) Why would their invoice be $550 higher than car sites?
2) What are "dealer fees?" It seems bogus, are they negotiable?
3) What's a fair amount to pay over invoice or under sticker for this model.
If anyone can answer these questions, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!
2) Dealer fees are just a way to add profit... Consider them part of the price.. It doesn't really matter how they break it down... The price you pay is what is important..
3) I don't have a handle on Solara convertible prices... But, $1600 over invoice doesn't seem out of bounds for a new and fairly popular model.. You should probably shop around (it looks like you have).. You can always offer less to the dealer that made the best offer..

The invoice price my dealer showed me was $500 higher than Edmunds. Supposedly, the $500 was some sort of an advertising fee charged to the dealer by the regional Toyota marketing group. There were no "dealer fees" added.
I paid dealer invoice and had quotes from other dealers ranging from $450 to $1000 over invoice. I used a car bidding service, which charged me $190, to obtain these bids.
The quotes I received seemed surprisingly low to me, given what I've heard about how popular this car is. However, at least one other forum member paid a price similar to what I paid. See my earlier message (#136) for a bit more detail.
Hope this helps.

I paid $32,712 drive out (TT&L included in price.)
I felt kind of good about the deal until I started reading this forum. But then I always think I paid too much after the fact. It's a competitive thing I think.
Thanks
Also, could you give me the current residual and money factor for 3yr, 12k. Thanks.
I am thinking about buying an '05 SE Sport V6 from a dealership in St Louis. The car comes with the power moonroof, and the JBL premium sound and I was wondering if $21,495 before negotiation is a good deal?
Thanks
PS. This is my new car since my used '96 Corolla...I am totally excited about this car.
