i can go measure my intake right now if you want.
spoog just ALWAYS avoids questions that someone who OWNED THE TOP OF THE LINE TACOMA should know. if he doesnt own one and just wants one that is fine but id rather not have him pretend.
His reason for not having a pic of his truck was "I dont take pictures of machines" come on. a person as fanatacal about his truck as he is would have hundreds of them ..
just my observations.

ok it took me less than an hour, spoog has had like 6 months

Let me go look for the diskette with my KKM setup pictures, I can SHOW you a Ford Ranger intake at 36-38 inches above ground.
I think the kid who lunched the engine in the rain was plowing water. What a dumba$$ move. . .
There is NO way in a normal rain storm, or snow storm for that matter that even with the stock air intake that you would suck enough water to lunch an engine.
Scott, notice how spoog does not answer questions.
Here you go, I will try to upload the air intake tonight or tomorrow, gotta find the diskette first:

It is not there yet but will be by tomorrow.
Check out the "fancy" and "shiny" oil filler cap when you see it.
I gotta get off, my son called from college and needed to get on his aol account! Dang kids, can't send em away far enough sometimes. . .
while the ranger goes 80k before needing trans replacement. INCREDIBLE!
You know...Toyota has earned their reliability ratings time and time again. It's things like this that really show through.
Vince and Cspounser....enjoy having your trannies replaced at 80 k! What garbage......

"Common problems on this vehicle are failures of the Cylinder Head Gaskets and the Oxygen Sensor Wire Harness, and occasional problems are failures of the Exhaust Valves and the Engine Main Relay.
Failures of the Cylinder Head Gaskets and the Exhaust Valves apply to the V6 engines only. Failure of the Cylinder Head Gaskets or the Exhaust Valves will prevent the vehicle from starting. The cost to repair the Cylinder Head Gaskets is estimated * at $240.00 for parts and $520.00 for labor. The cost to repair the Oxygen Sensor Wire Harness is estimated *at $15.00 for parts and $45.00 for labor. The cost to repair the
Exhaust Valves is estimated * at $300.00 for parts and $1,000.00 for labor. The cost to repair the
Engine Main Relay is estimated * at $13.00 for parts and $26.00 for labor.
sorry just getting even
a beer for all my freinds here
"Ohhhhhh what a Feeling, Toyota!'
Ok got the pictures up

That is my KKM TruRev filter system. The stock airbox would go to where the filter now is, down into a snorkel and into the airbox a good 6-8 inches LOWER than mine is now.

cost??
and how hard to install??
Trying to find chrome valve covers and intake stuff.
The BEST is yet to come so buckle up
Here i sit with maybe the fastest, newest puter on the block, I launch payloads in orbit and I didnt know that.
Maybe 5 more hp.
Sounds a lot better when you punch it!
It is a snap to install. Unhook the old box from the MAF, pull off the top of the old box, you want to leave the bottom for water guard, plug the old intake behind the headlight and bolt it on without any gasket. Torque value is not to exceed 104 inch/lb.
It cost 89 bucks + shipping. I got it, the opl cap and on recharge kit, used when cleaning it for maybe 150 bucks.
The Ford Ranger has had .........3000 Technical Service Bulletins from 89-99!!!!! Holy cow!!!!
3000!!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Add that to a tranny that lasts only 80k and you have a prescription for J.U.N.K.
I will be heading over Wolf Creek pass in June. Of course, my TRD charged Taco won't even FLINCH a bit. Ahhhhhhhh....
Whats the point? Wouldn't that be like trying to put makeup on the elephant man? You need to have a good foundation. Remember, the Transmission expert says you really shouldn't tow anything over 1000 lbs with your tranny.
Why when hindsite posts articles that reference Windstars, Escorts, Dodge's etc they are proclaimed by you to be great posts? Yet when I post something that is DIRECTLY releated to your vehicle, like the engine, and there are STILL problems EVEN IN THE 1999 MODEL 3.4 V6, you call them weak posts?
Do you realize how bad you look doing that?
I am ESTABLISHING that Toyota still has quality and or engineering problems with the 3.4 engine. They run fine untill they bust a gasket, then they fry. Some of the data I will cite show the engines failing in as short as, going from memory here but I THINK 18,000 miles.
Is that a QUALITY product, one where the engine fails in 18K and the company KNEW of the defect?
I know how the locker works and have already shown that in my past post. Next issue...
You have a new name for Toyota owners i see. Please don't cry about why you get labeled in the future please, when it is so obvious as to why...

Scott-
Why are you worried about the air intake level? You have a 4x2 truck! I don't think it will be going offroad anytime soon.
The engine howl at WOT is definately worth the $90, not to mention the 1mpg (with a light foot) and 5-7hp & 5ft/lbs of torque increases.
As for air temperature, the air temp inside the hood of a moving vehicle is nominally (a few degrees) higher than outside of the vehicle. Remember that the air has to get in there somehow. Unless you've got some sort of Ram-Air Cold-Induction setup, the intake air is bound to get heated by the time it reaches the TB and onward.
plus miles on the odometer now.

Would you think that link may be a bit BIASED?
Was that 671,000 truck in in environment where there is no moisture (his bed is not rotted out) or is he just on his 6th or 7th bed. . .
A weak link you say? Well we are establishing that the weak link on the 3.4 engine is the head gasket. . .
Oh gonna adjust your boost-a-pump before you tackle Wolf Creek pass?
Do you know what a boost-a-pump is?
Are you measuring your air intake or can we establish that it is lower than mine? Oh I think I have already also established your vehicle has been recalled more than mine. That opinion comes with your silence when I asked you the question in a past post.
For the record, I have done a bit of research on the Pulse Vacuum Lock hubs. Remember a while back someone stated that the vacuum lines were failing and causing older Ranger 4X4's to fail?
Who ever posted the comment on the lines was in error. Well I have been unable to find that problem anywhere AND I do not THINK the pre-98 Ranger 4X4 systems HAD vacuum lines. They were ELECTRICLY actuated. There were some problems there that were traced to non-use of the 4X system for extended periods of time. Clean the contacts and you were on your way. PLUS if a motor DID fail, you could remove it on the trail and turn the motor with a set of pliers to disengage or engage 4 wheel drive.
Try that in a Tacoma.
So for the record, the pulse vacuum hubs were introduced in 1998 and are proving very reliable. Actually I have been told there are not really any hubs as we know it on the front wheels of the 98-00 Ranger. It is all activated internal to the front differential and xfer case. An interesting system with reduced areas to fail. A common problem of auto-hubs is grease hardening and causing them to strip. Not a problem on the 98-00 Ranger so I understand.
The sound is great. You have one Cthompson? I was impressed with the quality and resonable price.
Scottssss:
The stock grille in Littleton is about 160 bucks. What is it where your are?
Your truck has no hubs. Thus they cannot be changed, nor do they need to be. I have heard no problems with the pulse vacuum system as of yet. This is an internal disconnect, instead of a hub.
As far as water crossings go, I would leave them to small crossings until you get rid of the low snorkle (this is the tube that inlets air). You can just remove it, this is what I did a long time ago (Have 93). Most people that wheel seriously do that. Other than that, you will be fine going in deeper water. You just need to remember that to do this more safely, it is a good idea to raise the breathers on the diffs, and the tranny. All of my breathers run as high as possible (to the top of the firewall for front stuff), and have a fuel filter in them, and a bend. This makes it very hard for them to allow water into these components. If you do not do this, when you make a deeper water crossing, you will have to change fluids when you get home.
Wolf creek pass.....ahhhhhhhhh.
Spoog, my transmission expert said Ford transmissions are more reliable than Toyotas. But then again your expert dosesn't know the difference between a Honda Passport and an Isuzu.
