I just read the road test article here for the Ridgeline. All 4 struts went bad after a simple dirt road excursion. That takes the Ridgeline out of my considerations. If Honda can't get a set of struts that can handle a simple dirt road, then do they really expect to sell trucks? Or even SUVs? That was pathetic.

I have a simple question for you folks. I leased a new Ridgeline RTS here in Phoenix this past week and after the contracts were signed the dealer tells me he can't find the extra key or the owners manual. They say this happens quite often. My fear is that with a large dealer with a couple of hundred employees this key could fall thru the cracks and 3 months from now my Ridgeline mysteriously comes up missing. Shouldn't be too hard for an unethical employee to track a VIN number and simply drive it away in the middle of the night.A valid complaint? And the dealer seems to act like this Owner's Manual is linked to this particular vehicle for some reason. On that end I say just give me an owners manual. My solution to the dealer is to simply give me a new vehicle that they DO have possession of both keys and the manual. A valid complaint? The dealer seems to think I'm the one trying to pull a fast one. Your comments Please. :confuse:
  • If that is all it takes for you to give up, you're in for a big surprise with anything.
  • I would suggest having them change the locks, for the very reason you stated. Agree, just give me another manual with the correct key code (it's a stiker).

And car dealers just can't figure out why the general public's impression of them is right up there with sleazy snake oil salesmen. There is no way in hades that a dealer shouldn't be able to provide you with 3 keys (the 2 normal and the valet) and the owner's manual.

The only reason I can think of is the dealer is waiting for your check to clear or some other paperwork to come through and when it does they will mysteriously "find" the keys and manual. Again, if this is the case, they are still not dealing honestly with you. They should be upfront about this if it is the case.

I would demand a full set of keys and the manual, a REASONABLE explanation, or a different vehicle. This smells like bad fish.

    Good luck.

You've got to understand, the roads in my state are some of the worst in the country. Many about as good as the dirt road stated in the article. I traverse quite a few "washboards" just to get to work everyday. No way I'd own a vehicle that could even take the normal streets here. Otherwize I'd very highly consider it. Maybe next year Honda will get it together.

Yes Narg.........How dare you say anything negative about the 'ridge !
Edmunds did a unfair test....Plain and simple...................

You can't believe everything you read can you?

I CAN !!!!!!!!!.............There is another report of a ridge strut failure in another truck
forum. It was discounted there also !

Read back in this thread and you will see how anyone with a ridge problem
    is quickly dismissed......................... :lemon:

CR is usually pro Honda and Toyota. I've questioned their bias but quickly been told by Accord discussions that CR has it right. So I'll take CR at their word on this. If they felt it was a problem and didn't discount the flaw like they often do with vehicles brands they prefer, it must be major with CR. I'm surprised they didn't do a retest. They must have felt it wouldn't change anything.

BUT don't DARE make mention of that in the hybrid forums or the "greenie

I've seen a grand total of 2 in Minneapolis / St. Paul, MN. Both of those sightings were back in July or August.

I see a LOT too..............SITTING at my 3 local honda dealers............

At $31k a pop they sure ain't selling in the central NY area...........
I have yet to see one on the road.

One local dealer is offering $3000 off sticker in yesterdays paper.
  • rshollandrsholland Posts: 19,788
Well in the part of the country you live in, domestics rule. I was in Wisconsin last month and couldn't believe how few Japanese brand cars I saw on the road. Come to the east coast or west coast and it's just the opposite.

It took a while before i started seeing them on the road, but not any more.

Well, carsdirect gives me a price of almost $4k off sticker in NJ.

And '06 Accords are already $2500 off sticker ($4k off '05s). Guess, by your logic, that means they are deficient and undesirable, huh? Poor Honda ... only able to sell a couple hundred thousand each year. I suppose they'll be going out of business soon. :/

Thats funny.....................I was in the Philly/NJ area last week and a giant
toyota and honda dealer group in Cherry Hill had 100 new 05 camrys ( all
listed by vin#s, options, and prices) at "giant" discounts according to their screamer ads.............
Their honda store also had a similar full page ad touting 05 accords, civics,
and ridgelines at clearance prices to make room for the 06s................
There was also mention of several prius in stock and choices of colors for
    imm. delivery..................

YUP......the whole 23k sold of those ridgelines must be quite the common site
in LA-LA or is it fantasyland land huh Bob?

BTW: I have a REAL truck to do my hauling. No need to buy a car with a
bed and then buy a utility trailer to go to the home store to haul something
    home................................... :P

so.... why are you even here in the ridgeline discussion? Just to berate a vehicle you don't own? You must have alot of free time on your hands to go to all the discussions of cars you DON'T own and don't want to own.

A real truck purchased with $6,000 in rebates, on top of a below-invoice deal, with several free accessories, and a deed to the Brooklyn bridge...

Why should I buy a big, clumsy truck to drive everyday when the trailer works just fine for the few times I need it? Besides, my 5x8 trailer can haul more stuff than your pickup bed can.

reread my post. its not just the fact that you don't own one (as i don't, either), but the fact that you don't WANT to own one and would never consider it. I talk about Ferraris because I LOVE them, but I'll sure as heck never be able to buy one. If I went into Ferrari discussions just to say "geez, what a crappy car you guys own" over and over and over again, that would just be sad.

This may be presumptuous on my part, but what do you drive, a @#%$'n Tracker (hence the screen name)!!!!!

He drives a Bubbamobile (a 3/4-ton Chevy pickup) and an old Caddy of some sort. It's pretty clear he suffers from the "Mine is Bigger than Yours" complex, and we all know what that means. :P

    BOB...........I need that "bubba" mobile.
You know the one that comes with the factory with a HITCH !

Your hero trucks (ridge & baja) can't pull a boat or camper let alone plow snow. :P

I guess in your opinion it makes more sense to spend $31k plus for a ridge
then purchase a utility trailer to do the hauling huh?
  • qbrozenqbrozen Posts: 25,798
posts about subies? how far back are we talking?
i owned a subie 3 years ago. Really like them, although i wasn't terribly please with ours. I like alot of cars. I'm a car guy, what can i say?

Never said the ridge was a crappy car.

You never miss an opportunity to point out it's a "crappy car," and I'm sure everyone here (not just me) will agree with that.

He just goes out of his way to get under my skin, as you can see that most of his remarks are pointed specifically at me, in one way or another. He's got "issues," as we all know.

ah, well, that might explain the subie comment. Maybe he meant to direct that at you, too, since I believe you've posted about subies MUCH more recently than I have. ;)
