Help needed, New at trucking in pick ups, was a
heavy hauler in the large truck field be for
retired, was wondering purchased a Coachmen 34'
travel trailer hitch type weight base 8125lbs, will
be towing in Florida only flat land not more than
a 100 miles at a time 2 to 3 times a year, would I
do best with the Silverado 1500 2wd with the 5.3L
engine and the 373 axle or the same with the 410
axle and does any one know the difference in
mileage from the 373 to the 410, and also to keep
off the hard ride when not towing would I be better
off with yhe ZX3 SMOOTH RIDE SUSPENSION ( stay
away from the HD SUSPENSION package? Thanks in
advance for the time, and to I know of all the post
bad and good on VIRB, but with luck I'LL GET A
GOOD one thanks again Paul.

definitely check the price of the 2500 with 5.3 and 4.10. I think you would be much happier with it as a tow vehicle. (little sturdier). Not that there is anything wrong with the half ton, but if the upgrade cost to the 3/4 ton is small, why not?

availability might be an issue there.

overall, you would be happier with the 4.10. It would put you very close to the peak torque at cruising speeds.

    I'd get a 4:10 in a 1/2 or 3/4 either way.

Mileage will barely be noticable...and you will have better high end highway power...and possibly avoid shifting all the time to gain momentum while towing.

    Good luck

    I didn't think you could get a 4.10 in a 1/2 ton.

I've got the 4.10 in my 1/2 ton. You have to get a 4x4. I definitely recommend the 4.10. A 4x4 with 3.73 would be fine for most areas, but in the thin, oxygen starved atmosphere of Denver, that extra bit of torque causes less shifting going up hills.

it...but It's my favorite subject to joke about.

Not really a funny subject when you think what it does to some people and their lives and family.

But hey...I drink it..I buy/sell stuff that has to do with it...(which everyone here should run to: www.beerlights.com/ and buy buy buy!!)..and I know a lot about it..

Only drawback is everyone thinks you be a drunk...when in Actuality I don't really drink much at all.

    So be it..

I tow a 34' Mallard with a slider dry weight of about 6500, loaded around 7500 to 8000. Tow with a '99 Silverado ext. cab short bed, 5.3 auto,3.73. Get about 14 around home and 19 on trip. Towing from foothills of NC to Myrtle Beach about 225 mi. I get about 9-10 mpg. Towing to Tenn.I get about 8-9 mpg. I added a set of Air/Lift air bags to the rear to make it a little stiffer when towing and they helped some. The truck pulls the TT great, but I do think the 2500 would feel a little better. I traded it in on a 2000 Suburban in Jan. so I would have a bit more room for passengers. I went with a 2500 with the 3.73 and it comes with the 6.0 engine. Hope this will help.
